YOGA AT THE STUDIO and the Church

We are expanding – and I would appreciate a volunteer or two to help please.

The classes at the church have been so successful we are soon expanding to The Uniting Church at Riddells Creek, a lovely country church which has a labyrinth we can walk after lunch. I (WE?) will be teaching there on a “Donation” basis . It seems to be working for everyone. With the free lunch.. you can’t beat it.  There are many spin offs, and i would like to hear from you if you would like to hop on board.

STUDIO CLASSES . In am pleased that I have a balance between the art, the teaching, the admin and the yoga. I even have had time to “cook” and work in the garden, although I looking for rain (as is much of Australia).

When I first started teaching yoga in Gisborne, the children were quite small and I was a single mum. I was planning private school education after Macedon Primary School, and yoga PLUS art made is possible.   I had the studio walls hung with my work, and had monthly exhibitions. Of course exhibitions were whole lot different then. I bought champers by the crate, made buckets of punch, and passed around cheese and crudites. They were parties, people were extremely happy by the end of the afternoon, and my work sold well… that’s how come my children went to the schools they loved.   I know how to do the hard yards. I don’t have children to send to school, but I do have time and small profits that I plough back into the community. Please support my painting. It is what makes philanthropy possible. Plus it will make better lighting possible for art classes.

NB: On another mater. Please keep in mind that at my studio the consecutive class passes are CONSECUTIVE. I love a phone call to alert me if you can’t come, but that does not mean that the pass will extend for one extra week free. CONSECUTIVE IS CONSECUTIVE. You could always come to a make up class… there are lots of options.

I know all about wasps.  I had a huge nest in the walls of the office a few years back.  Thank goodness we discovered it in time – the wasps had eaten the plaster and all that was between me and them was the layer of paint!  It is not unusual.  Last year, I discovered a new nest in the ceiling, and they totally destroyed my bee hive – killed the queen and just took over.  This year I am following Jan Strawhorne’s advice (a year or so ago she trapped 300 wasp queens in these traps (she had 30 traps out on her property).   She follows a guy called Laurie.

Look up “laurielure” on google.  He gives detailed instructions for these traps. You need to follow them closely, and make more than one.  Remember, wasps travel in a straight line – not like bees.  Wasp queens discover new nesting sites and are then joined by the rest of the hive.  So discard what you know about bees, and think wasp.  All you need is soft drink bottles, honey, water and vanilla essence.  AND THEY ARE TRIED AND TESTED TRAPS.  If every neighbourhood did this, we would have far fewer wasp invasions.  Even if you haven’t been INVADED, hang at least one of these traps to trap what you can.  They are not attractive to bees, native or otherwise.

In China they had a plague of flies. Their solution was to mobilise the population. They made it mandatory for everyone to catch flies. In no time at all, the problem had gone away. We should do that with wasps and toads.

I have purchased a beautiful new table top for our art table. All I really need now is a better lighting for the big room, then we can move into the big room for art classes. I also have 4 rather lovely vintage bar stools for sale. I bought them because I loved them. They fit at the farm, they don’t here, and I am trying to afford lighting and maybe even stools for the Art Room. The stools for sale have metal legs, cane seat and back, and the seat rotates. Very 1960’s. If I could get $175 for the four I would be happy.

EXHIBITION AT MY HOME STUDIO. Not far away now, and I am working hard to get lots of different images for you – all miniatures I think. I am going to sell the miniatures at a fantastic low price of $75 for the one time. Just to see which images you will respond to. If you want to join me, and you don’t have an invitation (I have forgotten or don’t have your new address), please let me know you are coming. It is a small studio….  Email

The image below is of a healthy cell.  If you are suffering with cancer perhaps, and need to focus on health, here is another way, meditate on a healthy cell.. get the healthy cells in your body to respond.  You will see i have nestled a tiny, tiny golden buddha wishing the cell.  I am sure the is Divinity there… how else would it heal.

The brush (which is the smallest one can buy) is a personality itself.  It is 35 years old… and still beautiful.

If you want to learn to paint and/or draw on a regular basis….Experience the joy of painting and drawing by learning to trust your intuitive self with me!. Painting this natural, gentle way allows you to let go of the inner critic that keeps you away from your full aliveness and creativity. The oil pastels are a way of achieving a quick result, and you get to touch and smooch the medium across the paper. It is like painting with lipstick!

All you need is the desire to paint, and the courage to express yourself. No art experience necessary.

TUESDAYS from7pm- 9pm

COST $250 for 5 classes – we are taking September bookings. We experiment every week with new materials and skills to enhance your finished image.

All materials will be provided.  By the end of the class you will have a unique image to take home, and frame to put in your own meditation room. Maybe good enough, stunning enough to be an heirloom. No painting experience needed. If you are nimble enough to sign your own name, you can do these classes.

SATURDAYS 9am SUMII (ZEN YOGA) BRUSHPAINTING – “ONE BREATH ONE LINE” $30 per session.     This is the traditional painting on rice paper, but once the fundamentals are achieved, with a twist. On the longer classes, we will be doing it the “zen way” and painting things that can’t be painted. Love, joy, yoga, spirit, speed…etc etc.   No right, no wrong, just what you can do. Your expression. We will be using traditional materials, we will be doing yoga breathing, AND A PAINTING will be the result.. Grind the ink, use the brush, paint the painting….. Sounds easy, BUT as in yoga, the foundations are everything.

SHANTARAM: Have you read the book?

I did years ago and loved it. I have painted the book in miniature to include in the Exhibition – I am also going to paint the books of Gita, and The Bible. Vintage covers, so not spanking new. A bit worn. I had to research Shantaram, and certainly have well- loved paperbacks here that I used as models for the wear and tear. I remembered the old red and blue cover, but it has had many images and many reprints. I painted the oldest I could find – red and blue.

It is about LINEAGE. You trained with us, you are a part of our lineage (or we are a part of yours), Registration supports this. PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION. You need to be currently registered for your insurance to be valid, and you will need to supply a copy of a valid registration to be insured.   Please check your insurance requirements – keep up to date. They change quickly.

We have fallen in line with other organisations and ask people who are registered with us and wish to re-register to do at least one short course in the year as a continuing education requirement. You need to keep up. You can do one of my little courses on ETSY, or someone else’s, doesn’t have to be onerous, just something to keep you on your academic toes so to speak. Just watching a DVD won’t be enough unless you actually write a report on what you watched and why you watched it – the outcome – how it changed how you do what you do.

PARKING HOME STUDIO – 37 Morris Road, Woodend.

PLEASE, PLEASE Park on white gravel in front of the studio. I had the garden made into an attractive parking lot. When it was lawn you didn’t even think about parking on the lawn or the nature strip. Now it is especially for parking, you park blocks away and walk. What is this about? If my park places are full, you can park in the drive-way directly opposite in front of double grey garage rolladoors. Not in front of neighbours driveways please.

CALCIUM WITHOUT PILLS.    I made this for myself, and used just one egg in a small jar drowned in lemon juice. It worked.

The idea came out of our discussions on Sunday Teacher Training.

Get a jar, and put a few eggs in the jar (4 perhaps? I used one egg) cover the eggs with fresh squeezed lemon juice. Leave it for a week or so, turning at least once a day, very gently. The shells will dissolve somewhat (leaving the eggs intact). After a week or so, gently pour off the lemon juice, and use about 15ml perday in a drink – your total calcium requirement is in this lemon/egg shell juice. You can use the eggs in cooking.

I have tried adding the flowers to the brew with the scobie.  I didn’t like this.  I tried adding it after bottling – the yeast made the bottles explode, so now, I make a pungent elderberry flower syrup and add this to the glass, top with kombucha and then mineral water – DIVINE.  Lemony with a floral “nose”.  Try it.  2 cups of flowers, steeped in a syrup made of 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water.  Dissolve the sugar in the water, cool, add the flowers and stand covered for a couple of days.  Then strain and decant.  Add the syrup to the kombucha in the glass before drinking.  Perfect.  Keep the syrup in the fridge, if you let it, it will last a long time.

I write books to help you in your course. Please download them, and then please use them in answering your modules. WATCH OUT FOR THE NEXT ONE – NARRATIVE MEDICINE. A certificate course. If you teach yoga, you need this. No excuses.
