Dear Yogis…
“What time, descending from the sky, the Plants flew earthward, thus they spake:
No evil shall befall the man whom while he liveth we pervade,
Of all the many Plants whose King is, Soma, Plants of hundred forms,
Thou art the Plant most excellent, prompt to the wish, sweet to the heart.” -Rg Veda Mandala X, Hymn 97
On loving the body:
We are yogis, and some of us concentrate just on asanas, thinking that yoga = asana. Some of us are therapists, naturopaths, even herbalists, but only concentrate on the herbs, forgetting that our initial practice, a way to support ourselves and the world, IS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH OUR BODY.
From an Ayurvedic standpoint, this is the soil from which our practice must grow and take shape. Our body is a temple and honouring that temple allows us to cultivate a healthy metabolism, change our lifestyle for the better, and connect with nature’s wisdom. Like the plants themselves, we are born from the womb of Mother Nature (our primary teacher), and it to this that we will return. Only by honouring Her will we grow and thrive.
Working with you to build strength, I consult and teach in the area of herbalism for health and longevity. As my clients and students advance, and move into more subtle realms, we begin to enter our subtle bodies. The plants in their “spirit” forms are benevolent beings we can connect to for support in this energetic realm. This is connecting to the vital essence of the plants, to their uniqueness.
Herbal students and clients looking for answers to problems (where we all start) move from teas, tinctures and powders for organs and organ systems into the area of flower essences, subtle herbalism, and homeopathy, for it is in the subtle body and mind that we must now work. Vibrational remedies (Bach Flower Therapies are an easily accessible and understood example).. work with our vital force to clear the paths necessary for safe Kundalini Awakening – for connecting in a manner that cleanses the mind of negative impressions and uplifts the heart for more beauty and building caring relationships. We rarely consider herbs with yoga, and even less frequently would we take them to assist in the health of chakras.
Sure, we can take hawthorn for a heart problem and leave it at that, but the physical manifestation is a reminder that more is going on. To address this difficulty holistically we must look after the breathing, the yoga asana, the chanting, relaxation, and Bach therapies – not forgetting the opportunity to express GRATITUDE.
TANTRIC Bach Flower Essences . It is especially in working with flowers, that we have a compendium of remedies supportive to our individual and collective evolution, for it is in the realm of plants, trees and flowers that we are able to address and heal our minds and emotions. There is nothing like the power and gentle beauty of flower essence medicine. Working with them, in my opinion, is the plant kingdom’s greatest gift for yogis, especially.
