GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES
Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….
Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga. We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs. Our programs include training in meditation, asana.
THE ANNIE TEN BRINK SCHOLARSHIP
This week, Annie ten Brink died suddenly. It happened as she would have liked, at home, first thing in the morning as she was getting ready to have a class. Her jewellery and clothes for the day all set out waiting for her. Annie was a friend and a yoga student of mine for more than 40 years and a LIFETIME MEMBER of our studio. We had morning tea whenever we could – both of us having rather full diaries. She was a woman who understood great men, good food, fine wine and old French champers, deep coffee and wearable art (beautiful clothes). She was amazingly independent at every age, and I loved her. We all did. Annie always behaved like the Baroness she was, and her team were there for her at every point in her life. A teacher to her bones, her instinct for people and organisation was an education in itself. No-one escaped from her company without a 5 minute elocution or French lesson. “Watch my lips baby!” was a phrase she often used….
In her memory we are initiating THE ANNIE TEN BRINK SCHOLARSHIP as part of “The GitaJaia Yoga Foundation” which is the philanthropic arm of our Institute. One of our students, a brilliant jeweller, is making a memorial bead on a traditional red string yoga bracelet in order to start the fund. We will also have some angel paintings for sale, also to raise money for the foundation. Become a member and receive a Red String Bracelet or an angel.
Initally I thought that we would isolate the recipients of this scholarship to residents of the Macedon Ranges Shire, but Annie was international and national. She was a resident of the world. In keeping with her wide and restless spirit, we will be opening it to anyone, anywhere.
We will keep you well informed of the progress of this effort.
DEBBIE
I said that when the dust settled, Debbie may buy a Harley and take off into the sunset. Now the physical has been cleaned up, she has the opportunity to be a person she has never really explored, and we are all hoping that she is leaving to do just that. She is staying around on Tuesday mornings for the next two weeks, then off she goes – into the sunset. We will miss her.
However, I am having a lovely time getting close to all my students after years of leaving you all in Debbie’s hands.. So mostly when you ring you will be speaking to me. If I don’t answer right away, be patient and call back. Ring 0402 088 170 – my personal mobile, or the office phone 0354 273 518 which is often patched through to my phone. Email? yogafirst2@bigpond.com and email 24/7, it’s the most reliable. If you want to know anything about your course.. Then email me.
OUR NEW “DEBBIE” is FIONA.
Fiona is the daughter of Brenda Wadge our teacher in Moama. Fiona is also a trained teacher and she is doing our course, just to see what you out there are working through. She comes with heaps of qualifications (and a great mum). Give her some time to settle in, I think she will be brilliant. No one can “replace” Debbie, but Fiona will bring her own slant to the job.
YIN YOGA SHORT COURSE – Teach yourself books….
In the old days when I learned, yoga was yoga. There was only one kind of yoga with different teachers who could teach different ways depending on the class. In the spirit of my teachers, I am embarking on writing a series of downloadable booklets – TEACH YOURSELF BOOKS – so that you can adapt to different kinds of yoga for different classes, and students with special needs.
This little course is complete with descriptions, class plan, background, embellishments – everything you will need to develop a class of your own. The cost is $45 for the booklet, and if you want a certificate you can do the exam attached to the booklet and if you pass, I will send you a certificate. There is a charge, however, it will save you having to do a long and expensive course which, if you have already qualified and graduated as a yoga teacher (or are on the way) is probably over-kill don’t you think? And you will have all the tools you need to begin your own yoga class for under $200.
Lee said…..“I felt like the manual gave me confidence to be able to mimic the class and gave me a clearer understanding of the principals of Yin Yoga. I really enjoyed it Jahne and i got something out of it which i will continue to do so as well. So as you said in the manual “i have written this book for you so i hope it will be useful” – and it is, so thank you very much Jahne!”
So if you are interested, either leave me your name yogafirst2@bigpond.com and I will notify you when I put it up, or keep checking www.myyogabooks.etsy.com “RESTORATIVE YOGA” IS THE NEXT BOOKLET TO BE LOADED, then “YIN4KIDS”.
YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley
This is one of my major sources and fits beautifully with the course we have put together. BUY ALL THREE. You will never regret it. They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references. Don’t hold back it will be false economy. As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each. I thought that this was a good investment. I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for www.yogabeautiful.com.au
A BOWL full of SOUL
You have all heard of Lite ’n Easy. Well BOWL OF SOUL is the organic, whole food version of that which is cooked by a fantastic member of our yoga community Bec Cassar now living in Kinglake. She cooks and delivers a weeks worth of meals to the Gourmet Whole Food Store in Woodend ( next to Village Larder) and you collect from there.
The average cost seems to be $13.50 per meal.. I am going to give the service a weeks trial and will give you the results of the taste test, but knowing Bec, they will be “above and beyond” expectations. AND, Bec is going to donate a percentage from every bowl of her Lentil meals to our GitaJaia Yoga Foundation , with a little tag on the front of the meal to advertise the fact.
I don’t often give adverts, but one is required here. BOWL full of SOUL – Phone: 0431 697 613. “Bowl full of Soul” is also on Face book, and that is where you will find the menus.

I move with the infinite in nature’s power. I hold the fire of the soul. I hold the life and healing”. (Rig Veda)
THE GARDEN AND KITCHEN.
The other day I was passing our organic grocer, and lucked upon a tray of ginger. What did I make, GINGER SYRUP. Easy and delicious. I peeled and thinly sliced the ginger and cooked them long and slow in a water and sugar syrup until they were a bit soft, but not sloppy. There . Is only one problem – I keep on sneaking to the fridge and nibbling from the jar. Beautiful.
The garden is a bit of a non event. The new parsley is shooting up, the perennial spinach looks great, I have a few lemons, and enough greens for smoothies (just). Winter is on the way. Thank goodness we have a verandah with pots of veggies whilst the garden is sleeping. It is so, so dry. I am waiting for rain, the rain we said we were going to get at the beginning of the month. It might be cold but everything in the garden needs a good deep soak.
REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au
We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..
REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE HAVE BEEN UNCOUPLED. YOU CAN BUY THEM SEPARATELY. A DEARER OPTION, BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT. WE AIM TO PLEASE.
YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so):
Signing up for a course – our course included, is like buying a car. You can’t buy it, take it for one run, leave it in the garage and a year later go back to the dealer and ask for your money back. It doesn’t work like that. If you are on the course, you are on the course until you write and let us know that you are not. If twelve months and more have elapsed with no contact in spite of all our newsletters, etc…. then you have (as far as we are concerned) been on the course for 12 months.
If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only. Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course. We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes. Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.
I have found if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….
TAKE CLASSES WITH JAHNE ANYWHERE, ANY TIME.
VIDEOS: THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.
I can’t stress this enough. Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.
Before you start the course, spend time wading through the videos – they are not in order. The do not match up with the modules and they were not designed to do that. You are yogis doing a course. You do not need the trainer wheels. Get a feeling for how they are set up, what’s where. It will save you heaps of time later on. There are stick figures, respiration, philosophy, how to teach….even the garden is there. You will love them, but you have to get to know them – it’s not just about asanas. My various hair incarnations alone will keep you interested!
CONSULTS WITH JAHNE
If your question is a lifestyle issue, a domestic issue, or a personal issue and you want personal advice (counselling), even hypnotherapy….then there is a charge. Her service is professional and there is an hourly rate. Please enquire before you decide to make a booking. Teacher Training issues at the moment are part of the course, and cost nothing – but you need to make an appointment. Please, respect Jahne’s 50 years of teaching and training. Her time is valuable, she is always teaching, studying or working with her students – it is all a matter of energy and exchange. We are a Sangha. Thank you.
