Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….

Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs.  Our programs include training in meditation, asana.

I was talking to a fellow studio the other day, and the topic? AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY.  A Sangha.  What is a Sangha.  A Sangha is an extended family.

Hardly anyone has anything good to say about organised religion, but what they will always agree on is that their parents/grandparents took an active role in the Church Community. It was the foundation for the home.   They didn’t just go on Sunday.  At best, they counted on donating to the collection, they took part in meetings, they went to the various festivals and fetes, and the women baked cakes and belonged to groups that did good things.  The husbands could be called on to help with repairs around the place, and local tradesmen could be called on for emergency fix-ups.  That is a Sangha.

A yoga studio is the same.  You might think that we make a fortune from the yoga teaching to the public, but if you get out your pencil and work it out, we really don’t get close, especially when we have others teaching for us.   It is a service to our community.

If you started your own studio, you would have to pay rent, fix it up, get advertising, Insurances, overheads, props, and man it whether you felt like it or not.  It would not be optional, you would have be committed to it to stop it operating at a loss.  Its a big decision.   Like all of us who have had our own studios, we make them pay by doing the classes ourselves, and working lots of hours. Yoga is a lifestyle, not a way to riches.   Finding committed teachers to work alongside us is a difficult task.  People want to teach, but only when it fits their schedule.  Unfortunately, clients come to rely on a certain teacher, and leave if they do not turn up regularly!  They too expect a Sangha.

Please, don’t just do the modules without thinking.  Don’t fit us in around your social life – commit.  What you put in to yoga is what you will get out of it.  Someone said this morning on radio national, “the world belongs to people who turn up”.  He was 100% correct.

Please understand, when you become a trainee teacher, when you commit to yoga classes, you become part of a yoga community.  We don’t wear orange robes, but we are still a Sangha.  Please support us at every turn, it supports our yoga and our Foundation – all parts of the Sangha.  I don’t need a begging bowl I am sure, but will get one if it will help you to remember.

We are always looking for good, COMMITTED yoga teachers, who will teach no matter what, who build their lives around their classes and do it to serve their clients, and their community.

Have you even painted in the Chinese way?  Ground the ink, prepared the brushes and paper, meditated, breathes, and then allowed the paper the ink and the brush to become one in the flow?    Too often, our minds are broken up, scattered about in bits and pieces,  sloppy and unprocessed.    In painting, the most important thing is not painting.  In yoga, the most important thing is not yoga.

We now have a client in Dubai!  Isn’t that amazing, exciting, especially someone inspired by Restorative Yoga Therapy training.

The Restorative Course is my baby, and I will be working closely with Deb to make it as fabulous as we can get it.   Now she is back on board in a limited capacity maybe, I can look at things differently (and so can she).  I would like it if each and every one of you did this course.  It is so worthwhile, and you can take it around to your various Aged Care Facilities, and the like.  We have a  not very fit ageing population. For anything yoga –  blog,
I don’t update every day.  But I do go on from time to time.
The blog “talking with god” actually led me into a much deeper dialogue with God, and cut short my blogs.  But I will get back to them.   ATTENTION: WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN US.

THIS IS PICKING UP SPEED, and going in wonderful directions.  We are Officially Launching the Foundation in June, and will invite memberships then.  At our Launch Party we will have a sale of my latest angel paintings to start the Foundation with a bank balance (hopefully a very good one).  So, start saving your pennies so you too can have a wonderful angel painting.  They probably won’t be small for now.  No small ones have come through thus far, although I do have one left from my THOUSAND ANGEL PROJECT – a client ordered but did not collect (it happens).  SORRY, THAT ONE SOLD THIS WEEKEND!!!     NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE ALWAYS NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!
We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.

We get so many folk get back to us saying how wonderful this book is.  There is a later edition available with lots of black and white photos in it, but my favourite is the first edition which was all colour.  If you can find one, keep it close by – it is a wonderful resource.   YOGA CLASSES
Cost:  $10 per person per class (or $100 a 12 class pass:  non–transferable).
$15 mum plus little yoga bub. $25 per family (mum, dad and two primary school children.
Young adults $10 each).

ABOUT THE CLASSES:  I have gently turned my attention to THE RESTORATIVE YOGA sessions.  Of course I still teaches a full workload at Innisfree.   However,  my senior teachers have been gradually taking over my general/public Hatha Yoga classes.  They are loving it – and I believe you are loving the changes too.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:  I am re-evaluating my time.  I have been teaching and meditating for 50 years, and have a vast repository of yoga knowledge, and many formal qualifications.  Consequently, from mid-March, I will be charging a premium for the Restorative Yoga THERAPY Classes that I personally take.   My classes are never just Restorative Yoga.  Of course, if you want a private session, I am available by appointment.  Restorative Yoga Therapy/Hypnotherapy/Trance Healing and past Life Therapy available.

PLEASE be patient.  Our student teachers need to learn, and they are so anxious to give you the best possible experience.  They are only babies, I have been teaching for 50 years!!!

WHERE: “The Bentinck” is on the corner of the Romsey Road and the High Street in Woodend.  Enter from  the start of the Romsey Road only – the sign is big and clear .

PARKING:  If both sides of the car park are full when you arrive, please park over the road – you just have to walk across Romsey road to yoga, and that’s not such a hard thing.  Don’t park anywhere else.  As you enter the gate, park only to right or to the left – not straight ahead. That also is staff parking.

*I have cancelled the Spiritual Yoga Class until I get requests to continue.  With Deb not well, there is much to do, and as only I can at present take this class –  it is suspended until further notice.

*RESTORATIVE YOGA (5 classes now – and growing)

They won’t always be with me.  As much as I love the classes, I must give other teachers a go at getting classes of their own.  RESTORATIVE YOGA …is a beautiful, gentle yoga which is done using lots of props and lots of time.  No balancing, no headstands, nothing but gentle stretches and rests.  You and/or a friend will love it especially if you have had surgery, are anxious, haven’t exercised for years, have a weight problem, or have a neurological problem.  It is also a PERFECT prenatal and postnatal session – if you are pregnant, please get a doctors certificate and bring it to your first class – not because I think you are unwell, but as it is an insurance requirement.

At the moment I am the only one locally able to take RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY CLASSES.  If you have a serious health issue, make sure that the class you are coming to is taught by me.  Take note that I will be overseeing all the other Restorative Classes from now on, so be aware I will be popping in and out of  Restorative Classes (and maybe others).

WATCH THE TIME – Don’t just wander in.  Every minute of a one hour class is important, so it is important that you get to the class early.  When you arrive, be observant, and enter quietly.    PLEASE,  please be on time. Because some of the classes are back to back, please check before you walk in.  Don’t assume the class has started, it may be the end of the last class.  There is a sitting area especially so you can wait for your class to start. If you are looking for any changes in times and days, then please go to the web site.  You will find everything there.

The next will be on Sunday, the 3rd April… the Bentinck – in the Yoga Room, enter through Romsey Road only.  Please join us. – Topic (The one we didnt get around to last time) : “MEDITATION – Searching for a relationship with God”.      If you are a distance ed. student then the cost of the afternoon is $10.  If you are a visitor you are most welcome – and if you are a visitor and not formally a student teacher with us then the cost is $20.

Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things.

All our classes are available via distance education and you can start any time..  Thank you to those students who are moving from their 200 to another, higher course.  Once you have got into the habit of learning, then it is easy to keep going….   Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

3.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP

which you can take in a number of ways.  You must start with 200 hours first.

5.    PPT Massage technique.  A stand-alone class, fully insurable.

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

We recently were noticed in Mass. USA and we are getting a review for our posters and colouring book – if you had not noticed, colouring in is the new thing.  Best seller list stuff…

LET’S GET COLOURING IN:  This week I received an email from one of our students who had purchased the chakras and colouring book and REALISED THAT COLOURING THE DRAWINGS  WAS A MEDITATION.  I celebrated.  It has taken a year for a student to understand the reason for the drawings. THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU……!!!  They are being reviewed by a journalist in the USA who LOVED THEM.  She said that we were so “on trend”.

ALL OUR IN-HOUSE DVD’S AND CD’S ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS SITE.  Please remember that they are not flashy high cost productions.  They are made by Deb, Nic and me to answer your various questions.  They are useful in your course.

YOGA SWINGS: Colours – *blue and grey, grey and black or pink and orange”,

We also have a great piece of fun just come in.  It is a round tube like a hollow steering wheel with a ball inside.  I don’t go for these gimmicks, but this is fabulous for core and upper arms – a couple of minutes and you can really feel the difference..  Ring Deb and ask her about it.  $35 plus postage.

This is one of my major sources of course and can be a source for you too.  BUY ALL THREE.  You will never regret it.   They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references.  Don’t hold back it will be false economy.   As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for

Paul Grilley has put out an on-line course which you might like to access – it is about the anatomy of a headstand. It is not on a DVD  – which is unfortunate, but I am hoping that at some stage it will be made available on disc.

We are getting in a new DVD about the HISTORY and fundamentals of the philosophy of yoga.  It has been out for about 18 months, but as you know, when they first come on the market they are more expensive.  We are now able to negotiate for a bulk deal, thus saving up front, and saving postage.

Lots of fabulous teachers are interviewed.  It is worthwhile  and I will let you know when we have it.

I move with the infinite in nature’s power.  I hold the fire of the soul.  I hold the life and healing”. (Rig Veda)

We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..

Signing up for a course – our course included, is like buying a car.  You can’t buy it, take it for one run, leave it in the garage and a year later go back to the dealer and ask for your money back.  It doesn’t work like that.  If you are on the course, you are on the course until you write and let us know that you are not.  If twelve months and more have elapsed with no contact in spite of all our newsletters, etc…. then you have (as far as we are concerned) been on the course for 12 months.

If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only.  Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course.  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes.   Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

I have found  if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….

Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.  I have shown you what I recommend. All you have to do is download.  I even did a video on ‘The Gita, and a number of philosophy videos for those who can’t come to class.  There will be more of these.  Good feedback thus far – thank you. Please.  Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly.

Before you start the course, spend time wading through the videos.  Get a feeling for how they are set up, what’s where.  It will save you heaps of time later on.  There are stick figures, respiration, philosophy, how to teach….even the garden is there.  You will love them, but you have to get to know them – it’s not just about asanas.  My various hair incarnations alone will keep you interested!

I would encourage you all to start writing your own recipe book which includes your children’s favourite recipes, your parent’s favourite recipes, and lovely bits of household trivia.  So many students have told me that they are so sorry they didn’t follow through on this.  It is a wonderful link to the past, and a thread to the future.   Don’t leave it too late.

If your question is a lifestyle issue, a domestic issue, or a personal issue and you want personal advice (counselling), even hypnotherapy….then there is a charge.   Her service is professional and there is an hourly rate.  Please enquire before you decide to make a booking.  Teacher Training issues at the moment are part of the course, and cost nothing – but you need to make an appointment.    Please,  respect Jahne’s 50 years of teaching and training.  Her time is valuable, she is always teaching, studying or working with her students – it is all a matter of energy and exchange.  We are a Sangha.   Thank you.

If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  On those days she is available on Ph: 0354 273 518.   Remember she is in recovery mode, and may not be there every day on time on purpose.  But when she recovers entirely, wow! Stand back.  She wants to get back to teaching classes!

This time with Debbie is NOT a counselling session. It should be about your course.  She is much too lovely to stop you, but some people stay on the phone for an hour or more.  Before you ring, plan what you want to say, get organised, and be gentle. There is a lot going on in her life.   I am always available on email or text because I teach and am not always at my desk.  (I am not a beautiful as Debs and will get you to the heart of your needs quickly).  Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can.

THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..
