Dear Yogis,

It seems a hundred years ago when I taught  “growing and cooking” to primary school children at Macedon Primary School – definitely pre-Ash Wednesday.  There was no curriculum, not even a nod to Steiner although I tried to impart his ideas.  It was my job to bring the students lessons I had worked through myself that would strengthen their capacity to grow and cook simple things for themselves, enliven their thinking, deepen their interest in the world around them, and for some encourage a more meaningful life.  All things that direct me in my teaching today…

It is my belief that in modern society we have lost the feeling and understanding of a living world and separated ourselves completely from it. It is of the utmost importance for the development of all life, and especially humanity, that we regain a genuine experience of the living active spirit.  Take the house and garden of Derek Jarman in England.  Sparse, zen-like, full of spirit, reverence, awe.  Something out of nothing.

I am very involved in telling stories to my classes.  The lovely image rich fairy-tales we find all over the world speak to us of what once was understood to be spiritual and active in nature.  Please live and teach in a wisdom filled world of constant change,  as I do.   Be present to the energies of life itself, emerging in cosmic cycles and rhythms. The spirit of the earth lives and creates within these life processes the spirit of LOVE.
