Dear Yogis,

We had a fantastic ART MATERIALS CLASS yesterday.  The next occasion is the WOODEND ART MARKET on the 22nd February (I will be there with my Tarot) .  However, at the moment I am working on a series that came out of tTHE DIG, and the Magical Helmet uncovered at the dig called “Sutton Hoo”.  Although it was not specifically a Druid site, the next painting was SHADOWS OF THE FOREST about wolves, and then THE STAG, and then THE SWAN – all Druid Totems.

The photo to the left is the painting.  It is quite long, so I had to adjust to get it all in.  Get closer to see the details of the wolves.  This will be at The exhibition mid-March at The old Kyneton Auction House.

You may not have been told but Sir Winston Churchill was a Druid.  True.  He was inducted into the order in 1908.

Cultural Druidry is beautifully expressed in the Welsh Eisteddfod (sort of a Welsh Woodstock), which stands as one of if not the largest celebrations of music and poetry in Europe and which celebrates the Welsh culture and language. Its traditions go back hundreds of years

Not the same as Spiritual Druidry, back before Britain had Trade Unions and State Support there were also the Fraternal Druids and Friendly Societies, such as the Ancient Order of Druids. These ‘mutual-support’ or what we know is Australia as “Friendly Societies”,  met an important social need, and provided aid to members.    It is these cultural orders or “friendly societies” to which Churchill and Queen Elizabeth belonged.  I doubt that they took it any further than providing aid,  however they would have understood the rituals and totems.

THE WOODEND MONTHLY ART MARKET has its inaugural opening on the 22nd February.  If you want a table, please email me and I will send you the information.

Dear Yogis,

With art exhibitions throughout March my house is a stockroom, paintings leaning against every wall.  My main exhibition is at The Kyneton Auction Room Gallery in Mollison Street where I will be exhibiting what my cousin called “real art”.  Even if you just go to poke around the gallery and art shop, you should.  They really do have some amazing finds.

On Sunday the 9th there is an exhibition opening at The Mount Macedon Gallery – our Summer exhibition.  I probably won’t be there on Sunday as I am teaching a class in my own studio UNDERSTANDING AND USING ART MATERIALS, to show budding artists how to get the best from the materials they are using – papers, grounds, pencils acrylics, canvas etc etc.  If you want to chat about art or classes I will be at the Mt.Macedon gallery from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.

ALSO on Sunday the 9th is the aforementioned class in my studio about using art materials. The class will get to use different pencils, grounds, substrates… their work should be easier and better after this class. They will be refining their techniques on my materials in my studio.   If you have been struggling,  trying to force your materials to work for you and failing – then this could have been the class for you, but it is full.  You can be on the wait list for the next one – let me know.  yogafirst2@bigpond.com

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

What an amazing few days/weeks.  Maybe I am just getting old, but the most surprising people are coming back into my life in such a lovely way.

We had a fabulous storm last night complete with dazzling light show and thunder.  The cat was worried and in spite of the heat, retreated to her anxiety bed which was the best Christmas Gift we both have ever received.

TAROT FOR THE VISION IMPAIRED:  I think I have solved all the problems and I am working on the first deck.  I will have to do these to order, but they are the product of quite a long time of experimentation (and failures).   I am sure that people with sight challenges or totally blind will make fabulous tarot readers, not distractions, and these cards will make it possible.
