THOUGHTS FOR TODAY

My thought for the day is this “If you don’t get right, you get left”. My question to you is this. Ask yourself “Why did God bring me into contact with this yoga school, The Australasian Yoga Institute. Why? I believe it is because we don’t just teach yoga. We teach you about you, and bring you closer to the YAMAS which are the cornerstone to our school, our ethos, our lives.

LENT – our challenge…

What a remarkable week I have had! A lot of great classes, lots of fabulous feedback…. Just when you begin to think “who is out there????” comes a flood of affirmations, so thank you all.

Most every year especially at this time (LENT) I ask you to think of others, to be of service. Step one is to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes. In light of this, think on the fact that almost 60% of the population of the world (could be more) LIVE ON LESS THAN $2 per day. Here is my challenge. FOR A WEEK IN LENT (IN MARCH) I ASK YOU TO SPEND LESS THAN $2 PER DAY ON FOOD. I have done this nearly every year and it is a hard challenge. You have to plan for it sure – keep in mind that people in poverty don’t get to plan – but we can. Try it, take the $2 per day CHALLENGE and let me know how you go. Last year in the middle of this challenge I got asked out to dinner at a restaurant. I explained to the host and the chef that I could only spend $1.50 max on my meal. Everyone got quite enthusiastic at playing with this requirement, and I was given a baked potato, and a glass of water with a slice of lemon. It was wonderful (for everyone).

Let me know how you go.

GOD BLESS CUBA
To the left is a photograph taken at the Bentinck, of our “Yoga Dog” – the Late Cuba. Julie found the photo and it was a lovely reminder. For more than 12 years Cuba came to every yoga class, didn’t miss one. She didn’t complain as she got older, or wasn’t well. If I was going anywhere, she was there. She was a pound dog, found on the Calder Freeway with her mum and dad. They were claimed but she was left behind. When I went to get her, I told her it would not be an easy life, she would be a “Yoga Dog”. There would be no time on couches or lying in the sun. She said yes please, and we travelled together for 12 years. Now Cuba has gone ahead, I somehow have a cat… not a replacement, a new companion. It has taken a long time to come to an arrangement (or as they say in the Mafia – “an accomodation”).

INTRODUCING……. (a repeat – please read)
THE NEW “Q” (QUANTUM) YOGA at The Australasian Yoga Institute.

Hope-Williams sees the work at QYOGA as a departure. “In The Ranges we have gray weather, more prejudices, more self-restraint,” she says. “We’re more austere, and our sense of belonging to this environment is very much present”. And maybe these give rise to two historical yoga characteristics: (1) simplicity and (2) the acceptance of the unforeseeable or unexpected.

Her possession of this dogged, sort of messianic faith stands opposite to the way she presents herself, disappearing constantly into the yoga, the philosophy she articulates. She has a way of revealing her truths through illustrations, anecdotes, and koans, often boiled down to single lines. “When your back gets straight, your mind will get quiet”. “Life without meditation is like winding a clock without setting it. It runs perfectly well but it doesn’t tell the time.” “Things go the way the mind goes. If you think you are a yogi, you’re a yogi. If you don’t think you are a yogi, then you are not a yogi.”

In fact, at the new Q-YOGA, it’s our obligation to transform ourselves, too, to leave our comfort zones, because that’s what we’re asking of you—and someone needs to walk you there. In the garden out the window is the real “QYoga”. The trees spring from the ground, delineating the garden and the boundaries. Green, lush, fully flowering, fruiting in the summer – then stark, skeletal when autumn comes. Be inspired.

NORTHCOTE TEACHER TRAINING CLASSES.

Every Monday, we (I) will be leading a yoga class at 11.30 Where? 9 Langwells Parade, Northcote, just off the High street. Park in the Aldi carpark 2 hours parking spot, and walk through, it is a very, very short walk.

THE FAST TRACK AGAIN

This is not for students who have been putting their modules in, and are just impatient to finish. It is for those who clearly are lagging way behind. It is for those who clearly are lagging way behind. I am not forcing you to do this. If you can’t do the fast track, do the fast track  here you are but doing the modules you haven’t finished FASTER. I want you to finish. It is for those students who have got well into the course and have been teaching consistently, but have taken a very long time, and are looking at a long time to finish, then this is the answer. THE FAST-TRAK. This means that you will do modules 19,20,21,22 and the exam. When these are received (and you have FOUR MONTHS to complete – not forever and NO EXTENSIONS) you will get your RYTA200 Certification. The cost by distance is $650, or if you come here and do it in a day, then $950. If you are interested, then please contact me via email: yogafirst2@bigpond.com. These are the four most complex units in the course, and the exam is not small either. You will have really discipline yourself.

HYPERMOBILITY If you want to see our yoga books, our tarot, whatever we do in a new way, check out this new web site. It is lovely. I may get an easy domain. Let me know what you think of it.   EMAIL:

Please use the email address yogafirst@optusnet.com.au for anything to do with accounts, or the usual yogafirst2@bigpond.com. To get to me. If you do want to speak to me personally, then email, make a time suitable for both of us, and then we can chat. If you do it this way, rather than just “wing it”, you can be reasonably sure I have time, and you will get my attention. POSTAL ADDRESS is not at my home – small mail box out in the open means that rain is an issue. Please address all land mail to the address it has always been – PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic. 3441. Until you see a change written here in large letters, that is where it will be.

PLEASE COLLECT YOUR MAIL PROMPTLY….

Please make sure you visit you local Post Office with your COLLECTION SLIP in hand if you are waiting for items from us. Items waiting for collection are sent back to us. This incurs double postage when we resend it – nothing you/we will want to do with today’s postal charges. The fact that you have not picked it up does not mean that it has not been delivered. If your mailing address is in NSW, and you move to SA, don’t expect your mail to be sent to SA. You have to organize it. INSURANCE
INSURANCE ALTERNATIVES. We are no longer closely involved with our teachers with regards to insurance…. AJGallagher seems to be the only one who will insure students who have not graduated but are teaching – although I must say they are increasingly difficult to deal with. However, we have made an alliance with Dancesurance which appear to insure students (trainees not yet graduated) cheaply, and, if you have a studio, they are really the only ones who insure this with understanding. If you are a student MAKE YOUR STATUS CLEAR, if you don’t, and need to make a claim, you may discover (too late) that you are not covered.

I have found a fabulous on-line insurer. INSURANCE HOUSE. They are amazing. Google them to discover everything they do. The list of modalities you can add to your policy at no charge is AMAZING. Please, try. I am still exploring Studio policies and will let you know when I have some answers. In the meantime – try them. They have been prompt, fantastic, and easy. What more can you ask?

RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY INSURANCE: Dancesurance and AJGallaghers have both come through with a specialist insurance for our Restorative Yoga Therapy graduates. They can add this special insurance on to their ordinary insurance AT NO EXTRA COST. They have examined the course, they have looked at the caliber of the students going through, and made their decision. All you need to do is to supply a copy of your registration when you apply. Why Register with THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE?

PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION. You need to be currently registered for your insurance to be valid, and you will need to supply a copy of a valid registration to be insured. Please check your insurance requirements – keep up to date. They change quickly.

REGISTRATION – CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

We have fallen in line with other organisations and ask people who are registered with us and wish to re-register to do at least one short course in the year as a continuing education requirement. I have been shocked by what teachers THINK they know, and teach. You need to keep up. You can do one of my little courses on ETSY, or someone else’s, doesn’t have to be onerous, just something to keep you on your academic toes so to speak.

LATE PAYMENTS

We make every effort to accommodate you, keep our tuition down, are frugal so you can be trained economically. So please, try to be on time and have your funds in order. Otherwise, we will have to up our fees to cover these time wasting problems, and I am resisting that. So, to encourage you we are taking the lead from other organisations, and we are going to charge $15 every time we are met with problems with funds. Motto? Please be on time. We don’t want to be going back, and back – pleading for you to keep your agreements.
