GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES  Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….   Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs.  Our programs include training in meditation, asana.

AYI AND YOGA AUSTRALIA – TOGETHER.  ACCREDITATION AT LAST.
For the past 8 years (that’s right, 8 years – hence the sparkly “8” on the cake)) I have been trying to get our course recognised and accredited with YA, and guess what – IT HAS HAPPENED.  Yoga Australia has accredited our big course THANKS IN PART TO THE WONDERFUL EFFORTS OF SHYAMALA.  That means that you can join YA, and get all of their wonderful advantages through doing our course.  They are The Peak Body and you can get lots and lots of benefits by joining them.

Although The Australasian Yoga Institute older than Yoga Australia, they started out just doing registrations, and they have stayed just doing that.  When we started there was no distance training and NO registration, so I did both.  That has been a blessing, but I couldn’t get the advantages they did because I did both.    No matter, I believed in the course we offered and still do, so we kept on doing both, and always will.

I also have some extra good news.  Because we started working on this project 8 years ago we revisited our policies to not only bring them into line with theirs, we exceeded them, and have been changing, upping our hours certification/accreditation requirements yearly to be ahead of the game – and it looks like it works.  However, they require that you have done  350 hours to get accreditation with them.  Some of you will have, and some of you won’t.

Deb and I are still working on our course requirements especially in light of this new development.
If you want to take advantage of this new step, and want your certification to have the YA logo on it, please write in to us and request it, and depending on when you did the course, and the hourly requirement you have met, we will let you know the next step.  Deb and I are in the process of determining upgrade requirements, some of you will have to do it, some of you won’t.  Based on a review of your results and extra courses you have done, we will determine what YOU need to do to bring you into line with the 350 Hour requirements of YA.

It is time consuming for me, and every student is different, but it does mean that you get a course tailored to your requirements, and that is what we are all about – plus YA accreditation is now an optional extra.  The RYTA200 is the first step which delivers the foundations (everyone has to start there), and then we build on that.. Let me know, email me, if you want to bring your certification up to YA  standards (RYTA350) , and get their accreditation.  It is not necessary, it is not a requirement to register with YA.  We have been Registering our students  for 40 years and we will keep on doing that, however, I think it will give you an advantage in the future to have a dual registration.

CELEBRATION
To Celebrate the union of Yoga Australia and The Australasian Yoga Institute,  I bought a cake.  Big, double chocolate fudge, gluten free!!!   It was made by Blackbird Cakes in Woodend, and I am sure that you will agree that it is wonderful (photo attached).  It has (had!) the logos of both organisations, and a lotus on the top.  I have the lotus, and I am sending a slice of cake to Shyamala at YA and to our GitaJaia Yoga Foundation Board.  I am sure it would have taken another 8 years to Accredit our course without the efforts of Shyamala, and a slice of cake is a small thing to thank her for her work.  THANK YOU SHYAMALA THANK YOU EVERYONE AT YOGA AUSTRALIA!   Sorry you couldn’t be at our celebration.

TEACHER TRAINING….FERMENTATION WORKSHOP
I cannot express in words what a fantastic afternoon we had with Margaret.  She was of course super organised, we got notes, background info, and then were able to do the actual grating and grinding.  I am sorry if you couldn’t be there.  I am going to do a video of the process, so you will be able to see Margaret in action.  We will put it on our blog probably.  I will let you know.
This week I am also discussing with Catherine,  the owner of our local cook store MORT AND PESTLE how to work in with her to bring you the little implements that are useful to do the fermentation, cheese, jam and other workshops that we plan for the future.  This week she is expecting the delivery of old fashioned ceramic fermentation pots to arrive.  These will be perfect for the ferment we started at the workshop, and the kimchi lesson we are planning.  More to come on this.

What you are may sometimes miss the mark,  a prisoner in liberty.  Get up somehow, get clean right now and be a happy, happy child set free.

FACEBOOK
I promise, promise, promise to get stuck in to making our page pop with news.  It just will take a little determination on my part, and then whamo!!!   There is so much happening and it is the only way to get it to you.

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!
We are still asking for your help. I wondered if any of you out there had finished with their book and would like to sell it back to us, WE WOULD LOVE TO BUY IT OFF YOU.  We can get it secondhand from time to time for $25 to $30.  We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.   yogafirst2@bigpond.com

THE SHOP and ETSY  www.myyogabooks.etsy.com As usual we are ahead of the pack.  Colouring books are the new big thing, and we have had our colouring-in posters available for a long time now.
This week I received an email from one of our students who had purchased the chakras and colouring book and REALISED THAT COLOURING THE DRAWINGS  WAS A MEDITATION.  I celebrated.  It has taken a year for a student to understand the reason for the drawings. THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU……!!!
ALL OUR IN-HOUSE DVD’S AND CD’S ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS SITE.  Please remember that they are not flashy high cost productions.  They are made by Deb and me to answer your various questions.  They are useful in your course.

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..
REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE HAVE BEEN UNCOUPLED.  YOU CAN BUY THEM SEPARATELY.  A DEARER OPTION, BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT.  WE AIM TO PLEASE.

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so): If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only.     Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course.  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes.   Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

Also, just signing up and not sending in any modules means you are not really a trainee yoga teacher, and unless we receive regular communication (even if it isn’t modules), at a certain point we will deem that you have disconnected from us, and we will disconnect from you.  And, coming to class with no intention of completing the course just to get the cheaper, easier student insurance, and free classes isn’t exactly living the yamas!  Sooner or later we will call your bluff.

I have found  if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….

VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum. Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.  I have shown you what I recommend..  All you have to do is download.  I even did a video on ‘The Gita.  Good feedback thus far – thank you.      Please.  Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly. OH YES, IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE SUBSCRIPTION, THEN PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEOS.  IF YOUR NAME IS NOT EDGAR CAYCE THEN YOU CAN’T LEARN WHAT IS ON THE TAPE FROM SLEEPING WITH YOUR COMPUTER!  yogafirst2@bigpond.com

GARDENING WITH BENEFITS My garden is looking splendid.  The bees are having a ball, and I got heaps of greens for my latest batch of kimchi, plus lots for salads and cooking in the week.
Can anyone help?  I need some fish for my little pond (anyone out there able to donate?). I just to keep the mozzies in check.  I am assured with the number of frogs I have the mozzies will be tamed, but fish really do a better job, and now I have weeds and protection from birds in the form of a cat, I think it is safe to put fish there.  Last time (pre-water weeds and pre-cat) a heron popped in on the day I put the fish in and cleaned them totally out in short order.   The cat keeps the birds under control without killing them.  Just by wandering from spot to spot around the garden.

COOKING – YOUR FOOD IS YOUR MEDICINE.
Did anyone try the chick pea pizza.  It was fantastic.

CAULIFLOWER STEAKS Debbie brought a recipe to me in the week for fried cauliflower, served with a salad or cooked vegetables.  Just par-cook the big slices of cauli and then fry in butter, until it is brownish and looks a bit steak-like.  I thought this was OK, but could be improved.  So gang, I suggested and in version 2, – Par cook the cauli, then egg and (gluten free) breadcrumb it, THEN fry.  So much better.  It has a fabulous crunch in contrast to everything else on the plate.  A rich aioli, pest or tomato sauce (home made of course) would be a great susszh  and brighten the dish too.  Give it zing.

“THE GROUCHY OLD TART COOKS”
One of my students at Innisfree called me “a grouchy old tart”.  It was supposed to be an insult, but as teaching them was “grouchy old tart business”, I kept it and it is now used affectionately (I think).  I thought a T-Shirt would be good “Yes, I am The Grouchy Old Yoga Tart” but it hasn’t happened.  So the current version could be “Yes, The Grouchy Old Tart Cooks”

I have said in the past that we will be doing cooking videos.  Well I am exploring the technology.  I have the space, I have the mind, I have a plan and the plan is on the top of the pile.   So now, “the grouchy old tart” will cook!

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley Just got a new shipment.   They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references.  As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this.  www.yogabeautiful.com.au
JAHNE’S MENTORING SESSIONS …. Because Jahne has been teaching yoga teachers for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) she is often asked for advice. She also consults on the Tarot and the I-Ching. Please make an appointment.

REGARDING DEBBIE If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  On those days she is available on Ph: 0354 273 518.  I am always here, and available preferably on email or text because I teach and am not always at my desk.  Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can.
THE YAMAS – I cannot stress these too much how important these are, and I am going to leave them at the bottom of the newsletter because I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER THEM. If you come to me to be registered in our organisation (and baby,  it is growing and is going to take some BIG leaps)  and you haven’t done the yamas, guess what, you will have to do a workshop and an exam…..  For me, the philosophy of yoga is the most important.  There is NOTHING more important.  We start there I have never liked the (Christian) “Thou Shalt Not” approach and am trying out a new one.  What do you think of this.

“Just for today I will not kill thoughts, hopes, aspirations,  confidence.  I will not kill.”
“Just for today I will work on telling the truth”
“Just for today I will work on not stealing”
“Just for today I will work on respecting all people and all things”
“Just for today I will work on not taking more of anything than what I need”.
THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..
