GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES

Yoga is an ancient philosophy and practice of health and well-being. Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in our certification programs and our classes.   We don’t teach pilates, or quick courses.  We teach YOGA the way it was intended to be taught – a system of healing with an emphasis on the mind. Our Yoga teaching focusses on the foundations, addressing every aspect of the human system, including the body, the mind, the emotions, breathing patterns, relationships etc. respecting the individuality of each person and situation.

ANOTHER IYENGAR STORY.

There are many tales about Iyengar – he lived long enough to generate them, especially being in the public eye for most of his adult life.

This story is related by one of his Ganddaughters.  She had been taught by Iyengar and wanted to be a teacher,  and felt that she had to do and be  better to be one.  A demonstration of fitness was called for.  How to get her gandfather’s approval was top of mind when she decided to do a 20 minute head stand!  She said that the first 5 minutes were OK, but then as this lurched into 7 and then 10 minutes she itched in places she didn’t know she had, and felt muscles she didn’t know she had.  When the clock went into 15 minutes she was trembling, and just ticking off the seconds until the end of this practice, the 20 minute mark.

Her grandfather came in when she had come down out of the pose and was resting.  He asked what she had done, she replied “a headstand for twenty minutes”. He asked again “what have you done?”, she answered again “A headstand for 20 minutes”.  “Yes”,  he said, “but what have you done?”, to which she replied (again), “I have just done a headstand for 20 minutes>”  To which Iyengar replied “Rubbish, what a waste of time!”

Yoga is not just about the body, it is about The mind.  As Patanjali says “the mind of the yogi is crucial”.   Although we are not told, I am sure that Iyengar in the example above wanted to know what the MIND was doing, not what the body was doing.  He could see the body.

THE GITAJAIA YOGA FOUNDATION.

We need Members – .  Imagine what we could do if you all helped.  If everyone helped, then we would have money in the fund which may one day be used to support one of your students.   To become a member and receive a beautiful silk angel,  please go to www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

MASSAGE QUALIFICATIONS..

I don’t know if I am the only one here, BUT, have you recently tried to update your massage certification?  It is hard.  I takes more time to accredit than it did to get into massage school in the first place…..and isn’t nearly as exciting.    I think all these hurdles are fantastic, IF you want to become a REMEDIAL massage or myotherapy or use any of the other techniques which are medically based and work within a clinical setting, but if you are a relaxation massage therapist, or if like me you have been doing massage most of your life and the places you learned are for the most part long gone..  then in terms of recognition well, its bye bye baby.  Maybe the clinical setting is not where you want to be.

Our insurance company is fantastic, and if you have done a PPT massage course (or relaxation) they will insure you.  I can recognise when a person has the qualifications for massage or not and would be most interested to know if you massage therapist/yogis out there  would be interested in me adding a massage arm to our present registration?  I haven’t thought it through – but if enough of you get back to me I will.

ATTENTION EVERYONE – “AYI–FIVE ELEMENT YOGA” Teacher Training Opportunity.

The Australasian Yoga Institute has set the standard in Yoga Distance Education and Yoga Registration and Certification for more than 40 years.   Our mission is to teach as many yoga teachers as we can Australia-wide, world-wide as economically as possible, as safely as possible so they can go on and teach others safely, and introduce them to the real yoga.   No short-cuts, no cut corners, and not just asanas, no matter the length of the course.

We were in the vanguard of yoga teachers and teaching – there were no teacher training establishments certainly no distance classes, except for us when we initiated Yoga Teacher Training by Home Study, eventually consolidating our company in 1976.   We didn’t start thinking “this would be a good business” and developing a curriculum.  We started because we received requests from across Australia, from remote communities.  People everywhere wanted to learn yoga and teach yoga and had nowhere to go, so, urged on by our students we researched what was happening around the world, and went from there – by student request, initiating something NEW and DIFFERENT –   a teacher training program which could deal with the distances involved in yoga teacher training in Australia, offering students in remote reaches of Australia and now the world the possibility of achieving their dream of becoming Professional Yoga Teachers with all the qualifications and protections offered internationally.

With a dramatic increase in our student body, graduated Professional Yoga Teachers, the Institute is able to introduce you to exciting new training opportunities.

It seems to us, with Yoga studios popping up in every town and village, that Yoga Teaching is moving back into the home, being taught to friendly and small home based groups.   “AYI-5 ELEMENT YOGA” is the perfect vehicle to expand yoga in this way.  It short, simple and is available to be taught across the community without the need for lengthy training.   This new course is a simple yoga based on The Five Tibetans and Ayurveda  that can be designed and presented in homes and at small schools and old age care homes.   It is important to note that last year in America alone 20 million people signed up for a yoga course.  As every country in the world is experiencing this growth, teachers are in high demand at all levels.  They are most needed in the wider community who to this point would not have considered that they could do yoga.

The entire SHORT course will cost $645 .    I think it would take about three months part time by distance education, but the time and pace is up to you.  It may be a short course, but it is not short on safety and it is comprehensive.  I don’t teach “tick this box” kind of courses.

“AYI-5 ELEMENT YOGA” makes a yoga regime and lifestyle exercise plan,  achievable at any age.   If you would like to add this to your teacher training skills, or start your teaching life with this course, please register your interest with me personally before it is launched on the world.  Be the first with the best.  Email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com.  It will be available on Etsy, or time payment through our Institute.

TEACHER TRAINING – PAY BY THE MONTH

For those of you struggling to move forward because of the money… and we all have those troubles from time to time – we are trialling a new way of paying for the course.  MONTH BY MONTH.  You sign up as usual, but pay by the month (no deposit required if you are just signing up).  You pay for the month, we send the modules, I assess them and send them back and we repeat this process until the end of the course until you finish.   If you are already on the course, and  have got into a hard place – haven’t sent a module for a long time, and would like to swap to this program, then let us know…  We will look at your file, assess it, and give you some options.  The work is the same, and there are no shortcuts, but it may help with affordability.     Email me. yogafirst2@bigpond.com.

KNITS TO TIBET – PLEASE HELP US. We need babies blankets.  80cm x 100cms.  GET KNITTING.

After the earthquake we can’t build a house, we can’t even provide hot water and water bottles, but we can knit warm blankets.  Nothing fancy, just plain knitting is just fine – an opportunity to use up odds and ends of wool .  What is stopping you?  Get knitting today.    And   when you have a blanket or two send them to The Australasian Yoga Institute, PO box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic.  3441.  A cheaper postage alternative Australia wide may be offered by your newsagent (our does).  Check in and see if your newsagent has this facility.

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley

This is one of my major sources and fits beautifully with the course we have put together.   BUY ALL THREE.  You will never regret it.   They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references.  Don’t hold back it will be false economy.   As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for www.yogabeautiful.com.au

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE ALWAYS NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!

We are desperate for some copies.  If you are done with yours, don’t just leave it on the shelf……We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.   yogafirst2@bigpond.com   We get so many folk get back to us saying how wonderful this book is.  There is a later edition available with lots of black and white photos in it, but my favourite is the first edition which was all colour.  If you can find one, keep it close by – it is a wonderful resource.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “AYI YOGA UNIVERSITY”

I am considering an Hon. Doc. Qualification within our yoga Institute.  If you are interested in taking your qualification up a notch and would consider this, please let me know.  You would have had to graduated as a registered teacher, and done some years of teaching.  Certainly you need a good knowledge of philosophy.  Let me know if this is for you.

All our classes are available via distance education and you can start any time..  Thank you to those students who are moving from their 200 to another, higher course.  Once you have got into the habit of learning, then it is easy to keep going….   Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

1.    THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)

2.    RYTA200/YA350 –  THE BASIC YOGA COURSE – Accredited with Yoga Australia

3.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP    which you can take in a number of ways.  You must start with 200 hours first.

4. PPT Massage technique.  A stand-alone class, fully insurable.

5. AYI 5 ELEMENT YOGA.  Based on The 5 Tibetans and 5 Elements of Ayurveda.   A short (complete) teacher training course, for a short yoga program.

6. RESTORATIVE YOGA TEACHER TRAINING – ON–LINE

TEACH YOURSELF BOOKS…

Hop on to our web site to find our books, you will enjoy them – YAMAS, CHAKRAS, AND YIN YOGA….., they will add to your skills, and you can use them as a basis for workshops… www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

If you have your own studio, or teach (or just want to know more)  or want to do workshops, but don’t feel confident that you know enough –  then use these books as the foundation.  Just say that everyone in the class buys a book, comes to the workshop.  You do a class, embellish it with things you like to do, add diet, meditation…  you could easily have a one day or two day work shop based on one of these books.  Should be good, and a whole lot easier than starting from scratch.  Plus, your students can decide to get a certificate at the end from  me if they want that.  It all helps.

Lee said…..“I felt like the manual gave me confidence to be able to mimic the class and gave me a clearer understanding of the principals of Yin Yoga. I really enjoyed it Jahne and i got something out of it which i will continue to do so as well. So as you said in the manual “i have written this book for you so i hope it will be useful” – and it is, so thank you very much Jahne!”

THE SHOP and ETSY   www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au

If you want yoga insurance with us the cost is now $220 pa. which also covers you for our PPT massage.    Because we have been with Parmia who are now owned by AJGallaghers (who also own OAMPS) since they started, it means we get a “hot desk” answered by a real person, in Queensland not India,  who knows who you are.  We also can get the student insurance, which is a very special advantage.  With regards to the forms – we are updating and simplifying.  It won’t be done in a flash – so thank you in advance for your patience.  Our insurance company is underwritten by Lloyds of London, and has recently acquired OAMPS (I am sure you have seen this about).  We have the advantage, we have a niche within that business, and are cared for, which is excellent when you have questions, and want service.

You will get reminders for all the admin details of your course including registration and insurance….  So if you have lagged behind in the paper efficiency department, get that paperwork up to date and then we will all be happy.

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so):

Signing up for any course – our course included, is like buying a car.  You can’t buy it, take it for one run, leave it in the garage and a year later go back to the dealer and ask for your money back.  It doesn’t work like that.  If you are on the course, you are on the course until you write and let us know that you are not.  If twelve months and more have elapsed with no contact in spite of all our newsletters, etc…. then you have (as far as we are concerned) been on the course for 12 months, even if you have done NOTHING in that time.

By the way.  If you are doing the modules, and you have not properly signed up, then you are not properly on the course.  So please check.  It would be dreadful if you got to the end, wanted to rush to graduation, insurance and teaching, and we found you had not completed the initial paperwork and you had to get that done…   please check.  If we check (and we are gradually doing this)  and ask you to correct this, please do it QUICKLY – it  is not optional.

If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only and ONLY if you have paid for THE STUDIO TRAINING.  Not the DISTANCE training.  Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course, and everyone did that!  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of yoga training.   Your STUDIO training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

TAKE CLASSES WITH JAHNE ANYWHERE, ANY TIME.

VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.

NEW TEACHERS…BEFORE YOU START THE COURSE PROPERLY LOOK THROUGH THE VIDEOS.  I can’t stress this enough.   Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.   NOTE WELL:  they are not in order.  They do not match up with the modules and they were not designed to do that.  You are yogis doing a course.  You do not need the trainer wheels.    Get a feeling for how they are set up, what’s where.  It will save you heaps of time later on.  There are stick figures, respiration, philosophy, how to teach….even the garden is there.  You will love them, but you have to get to know them – it’s not just about asanas.  My various hair incarnations alone will keep you interested!

FIONA, and JACKEY and ME…. THE OFFICE.

FIONA:  Is doing the everyday office work.  She is the new Debbie, but it will take her time to get up to speed.    JACKEY is our bookkeeper.  For the next few weeks she will be working from 9am to 12 noon on Wednesdays.  If you want to know anything about accounts, ring at this time.  You can ask me questions any other time, but I may not be able to give you a definitive answer.

ME: During the week, mostly you will be dealing with me.  I am having a lovely time getting close to all my students after years of leaving you all in Debbie’s hands.  Right at this moment, if you have a question about your course (until Fiona gets up to speed), truly, I am the only one absolutely qualified to answer you.  If I don’t answer right away, be patient and call back.  Please email in the first instance at the number below – only the number below  and set up a time when we won’t be disturbed, and will be in a place where phone connections are possible.  My email   yogafirst2@bigpond.com  If you want to know anything about your course..if you have problems, concerns,  then email me.  As I have said.  Be patient.  We are working hard to be the best we can be.

I have asked before DO NOT SEND MODULES TO MY HOME ADDRESS.    For those of you who have missed seeing my postal address.  It is PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. 3441.  Australia.

THURSDAYS –  are my ONLY DAY OFF.  I would really appreciate it if you left your emails, and telephone calls until another day.    I know that in this “information age”  you need to know things right this minute…  please postpone your request, and don’t get annoyed if I don’t pick  up the phone on Thursdays.  Make your call on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays so I do get a rest.  Also, Read the yoga schedule above.  If you call whilst I am in class I am not going to pick up the phone – ditto if I am in the middle of a consult – that is why I plead with you to email me.  Then I can reply as soon as I am free, and those who try it will know I do, unless I have to think about and research what you have asked then it might take a little time.  email: yogafirst2@bigpond.com  or  0354 273 518  or  0402 088 170.   Thank you!

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

I move with the infinite in nature’s power.  I hold the fire of the soul.  I hold the life and healing”. (Rig Veda)

Dear Lord – thank you for providing me with everything I need, when I need it, and no more.

Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things.

THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..
