THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
Had a wonderful teacher training at the studio this week, and our first in Northcote. If you live close to us, please come along. 11am Monday morning 9 Langwells Pde. Northcote (just off the High Street). I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEW AFFILLIATION HERE. Not just teacher training. Restorative yoga Therapy will also be on the menu. Soon.
MEDITATION
Even our hospital in Kyneton which hasn’t been very supportive of yoga in the past, is embracing meditation, in particular the brand called “mindfulness”. In particular for people in palliative care.
I love that they have brought meditation into their program, however. I really have issue with the word MINDFUL. Everything we do in yoga is mindful, and in meditation we are trying to be unmeditative or mindless. But that just me. Anyone, anyone, who wants a following says they teach mindful meditation. In my view it is “Mac-Mindfulness’. If they were serious it is my opinion they would teach Vipassana. A truly wonderful real Buddhist meditation, with a fabulous history, great tradition (not terribly trendy). Something that can grow.
In all our yoga classes we encourage our students to be mindful at all times. Mindful of their breathing, of their thought patterns, of their actions and reactions. It is the point of yoga. Not just mindful for the three minutes a day they are sitting in meditation.
CHRISTMAS
This Teacher Training was our last for the year, and it interesting to note those who just weren’t there. As usual it was wonderful to work with those who were – they are a group
who over time have grown together. Once again, it is all about commitment. You know a year in advance our schedule, there really isn’t anything that should come in the way of being with and working with your class. Yes, we are a distance education school, but there are a number of students who live not far away who aren’t regularly at class. It’s the ones who live an extraordinary distance away who manage to be here and arrive early or on time. Thank you one and all. Everyone – maybe write in your diary right now the
teacher training days at the studio – or maybe plan to be at Northcote? Or Wednesdays in the studio? Or Bendigo? There are many and growing alternatives.
DNA/TCELLS/BLISS
Thank you for all those students who have downloaded my booklet and DVD about the Cerebro Spinal Connections. This is only the beginning of the story – but most essential. You have to start somewhere, and the beginning is a good place. Please, teachers, catch up by getting these books, reading them and reflecting on your practice.www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. THEY ARE JUST THE BEGINNING. Come to Teacher Training when you can.
Teacher Training? Just in case you haven’t seen any reference to it – and someone said I never write about it in the newsletters – obviously a person used to the computer ‘grabs’ of information. You have to read this newsletter! ….. Ist Sunday in the month between 2 and 4, every Wednesday at 12.30 and philosophy on Saturday morning at 11.30. AFFILIATES and those who would like to be. Teachers! Please give this some thought. If you would like to Affiliate and start teaching teachers (you need to have graduated), then please email me and we will arrange a visit – or a chat depending on where you are of course. If you have a studio, it’s your next step. New Affiliates: The Community Health Initiative in Northcote.
EMAIL:
Please use the email address yogafirst@optusnet.com.au for anything to do with accounts, or the usual yogafirst2@bigpond.com. To get to me. If you do want to speak to me personally, then email, make a time suitable for both of us, and then we can chat. If you do it this way, rather than just “wing it”, you can be reasonably sure I have time, and you will get my attention. POSTAL ADDRESS is not at my home – small mail box out in the open means that rain is an issue. Please address all land mail to the address it has always been – PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic. 3441. Until you see a change written here in large letters, that is where it will be.
PLEASE COLLECT YOUR MAIL PROMPTLY….
Please make sure you visit you local Post Office with your COLLECTION SLIP in hand if you are waiting for items from us. Items waiting for collection are sent back to us. This incurs double postage – nothing you will want to do with today’s postal charges.
THE OMM COLLECTIVE
A beautiful mala bead bracelet came in the post attached to some postcards alerting us to a new yoga and pilates app. Something to help us run our studios. My studio is running quite well, and studio owners I know who are app’d are happy with what they have. Thank you OMM for your hard work to give us something new. I use “old” technology and at the moment I am happy with that. However. If you girls out there are opening a new studio, you might like to preview it. Ommcollective.com
HYPERMOBILITY AGAIN. The book and the DVD are available via ETSY. www.myyogabooks.etsy.com The more that I do in this field, and the more that I think about it, the more relevant it becomes to all of you. IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY – the course. INSURANCE
INSURANCE ALTERNATIVES. We are no longer closely involved with our teachers with regards to insurance…. AJGallagher seems to be the only one who will insure students who have not graduated but are teaching – although I must say they are increasingly difficult to deal with. However, we have made an alliance with Dancesurance which appear to insure students (trainees not yet graduated) cheaply, and, if you have a studio, they are really the only ones who insure this with understanding. If you are a student MAKE YOUR STATUS CLEAR, if you don’t, and need to make a claim, you may discover (too late) that you are not covered.
RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY INSURANCE: Dancesurance and AJGallaghers have both come through with a specialist insurance for our Restorative Yoga Therapy graduates. They can add this special insurance on to their ordinary insurance AT NO EXTRA COST. They have examined the course, they have looked at the caliber of the students going through, and made their decision. All you need to do is to supply a copy of your registration when you apply. Dancesurance – www.DanceSurance.com
Arthur J Gallagher – www.ajg.com.au
Why Register with THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE?
PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION. You need to be currently registered for your insurance to be valid, and you will need to supply a copy of a valid registration to be insured. Please check your insurance requirements – keep up to date. They change quickly.
REGISTRATION – CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
We have fallen in line with other organisations and ask people who are registered with us and wish to re-register to do at least one short course in the year as a continuing education requirement. I have been shocked by what teachers THINK they know, and teach. You need to keep up. You can do one of my little courses on ETSY, or someone else’s, doesn’t have to be onerous, just something to keep you on your academic toes so to speak.
RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY – POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA
Those people who have attended all workshops, completed the exams satisfactorily and graduated from all parts of level 3 (prior to October 2017), and come to the Sunday Teacher Trainings, will be deemed to have completed the Graduate Diploma in Restorative Yoga Therapy (and more). It is a big course, and at the end you will have almost done a Doctorate yourselves. You certainly will see yoga and teach it in a totally different way to any other teacher. I call it “QUANTUM YOGA” (“Quantum” meaning multidimensional, not as it is often portrayed in yoga as dynamic sequencing).
