Dear Yogis,

A reminder that the yoga lunch happens this coming Sunday (10th August) at The Victoria in Woodend as usual.

I did  put the following note in the last newsletter…. but no one has remarked on it so I am including it again.  It has been a hard winter for frosts around here.  It seems that almost every second day has a frost – lovely afternoon but the garden is turning to mush.  Only the weeds are surviving, cleavers as in the photo are loving it.  Please use them in your pesto along side Herb Robert.

HERBS OF CHOICE TODAY.  Because I have been dealing with a leg issue, magnesium has been a herb at the top of my list.  Here are a few “weeds” that might help you too. You could add them to garlic pasta, a great pesto, and general salads.  Cleavers can be made into a terrific herb tonic.  Just pack a jar with cleavers, press down, cover with water and leave for a few days then have a couple of tablespoons morning and night.

NETTLE LEAF:  Naturally high in magnesium, along with calcium and iron Also supports kidney function and reduces inflammation
DANDELION LEAF:  – Contains magnesium, potassium, and other trace minerals  Supports liver and kidney detox pathways
RED RASPBERRY LEAF:   – Offers small amounts of magnesium, along with iron and other minerals  Traditionally used to support women’s health  HIBISCUS: (Just in case you have some dried in your herb cupboard? ) – Contains magnesium and other electrolytes  – Also supports cardiovascular health and is rich in antioxidants
CLEAVERS: – a great tonic herb and just starting to poke its tendrils thought the soil.  These early shoots are the best – pick now.

***REGISTRATION:  Please check that your registration is up to date.

YOGA MONTHLY LUNCH: Sunday – 10th August at The Victoria Hotel (hardly anything else is open for lunch) at 12 noon.   It is quieter then, and if there are enough of us we can get the room at the back, although I do like an ordinary table rather than the big table and lately we have scored the big table near the front windows.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Here I am , finished the concentrated part of my Grandmother Duties, and I must say it was most pleasant.  Jack was just 12 and Cabiria 15 – just starting out in the cushioned atmosphere of Canada/USA.  So different to OZ.  Cabiria and I went to Bendigo and what did she want for lunch? An Australian Meat Pie! There is hope for her yet.  In our short time together we set up routines and things moved smoothly….  it was a lovely visit. with lunch for 10 at the end.  There is the possibility of a yoga class in the next week or so.

Yoga is still the most important part of my life.  Always has been.  I do this and that as a top up, but these diversions are not replacements.  And what do I dream about? Yoga of course.

Dear Yogis

What an unusual time – everything is changing…. you must have felt it.  Anyway, this week my grandchildren are making their first visit.  I am like a rabbit in the spotlight, just frozen by the amount of stuff to be done (plus an afternoon tea for 10 persons) – but it will be OK on the day.  Too much thinking can bring one undone!!

DOLL MAKING:  I do have a project of my own.  I do indulge in doll making from time to time – I find it relaxing, and I need relaxing.  I am going to have a FRIDA KAHLO DOLL MAKING CLASS here on the 17th of August.  1.30 to…4ish.  Champers and chocolates as well as materials all provided, (small scissors and hat flowers always in short supply -please bring if you have some) and you will have a lovely doll to take home. Absolutely no experience required, but the ability to hold a needle probably is inescapable.

The doll to the left is not FRIDA – a Frida doll is quite a lot simpler (not hard to do), The one to the left is much more complex, but a favourite from the last doll making effort.  She’s about 35cm tall.

MY READING LIST:  Have been reading an interesting book ZEALOT and amongst the pages found the library tag from a musical friend of mine.   I was surprised this book (another biography of Jesus), was on his reading list… But now I have lots to talk about.  Last week I read AGATHA CHRISTIE by Lucy Wolsey.  She is a fabulous historian and it was like sitting and talking to her, rather than fact after fact.  I recommend both of these books.
