THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE IS MISSION DRIVEN AND MEMBER SUPPORTED.  BECOME A REGISTERED MEMBER……

THE TIMES THEY ARE CHANGING.
They are changing hugely for me. Ever since I can remember I have copied my mother’s way of going through the day. Get up, shower, hair etc, then breakfast then work. (Meditation and yoga coming in there before shower etc). Well I am doing indifferently starting this week. Get up, do what I want, wear a dressing gown and have breakfast then shower dress and work – “ work” can be drawing or emailing or writing. It does not have to be “ work”. It will take a little time to get used to this new regime, but I am enjoying it. I will get a fabulous “housecoat”. Then I will be fine. The one I have is very utilitarian, and donated by a client years ago. This new regime has meant that I have been able to work on my tarot whenever I feel like it. It is a struggle dealing with the “shoulds”, but I am getting there. It is technically difficult, but difficult has always appealed.
EMAIL CHANGE:

Please use yogafirst@optusnet.com.au (anything to do with accounts), Or the usual yogafirst2@bigpond.com. If you do want to speak to me personally, then email, make a time suitable for both of us, and then we can chat.  If you do it this way, rather than just “wing it”, you can be reasonably sure I have time, and you will get my attention.  POSTAL ADDRESS is not at my home – small mail box out in the open means that rain is an issue. Please address all land mail to the address it has always been – PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon.  Vic. 3441.  Until you see a change written here in large letters, that is where it will be.

PHONE:

I still don’t have landline. I am still struggling with TELSTRA, and still I have the Internet but I have no phone. I believe that until the techies are paid for excellence and not to just turning up, then the system will not change. So, if you want to get me, then please TEXT me on 0402 088 170. You can phone me, but I may not be able to answer, so TEXT is the best option. Not many of you ring, but just in case I thought I would let you know.

I am actually going in to Telstra Business Centre tomorrow, having given up phone calls. I notice that Telstra and NBN have taken out a huge amount of advertising – don’t be lulled into a sense of false security. It is not easy, and no-one I know is better off with it than they were before.

HYPERMOBILITY

This is becoming more and more wonderful, and more and more complex. I was speaking to a scientist on Sunday with regards to a connection I have discovered between hyper mobility/collagen malcoding and DEMENTIA-ALZHEIMERS! – Correct. They are all connected. I thought I had got it right, and I checked, and yes, there is a connection. So I am trying to encompass all of that in my book. When you get it, it will be worthwhile, and bigger than I had anticipated. It will also be a whole lot more helpful to many more people than I had considered. It is all starting to fit together in my head. This week I finished a DVD on the Sacro-Cranio Connection, and as we speak am having it duplicated and the cover arted up. Will have it for you by next week.

COLLAGEN:

AS I said last week – I feel marginally stupid. For years and years I have been taking SHARK CARTILAGE. I take it because of its effect on cartilage and muscle, but I never thought about the collagen aspect. People have always said what great skin I have. If they could have seen the scars left by acne they would have thought differently. But without me thinking much about it, the scars have gone, my skin is reasonable, and I still have all my marbles. And I am still doing heaps of yoga classes a week. For my age that is not bad, and I think I have collagen to thank for quite a bit of that. The collagen I take is pure, it is from virgin waters, and is ethically collected. No sharks are killed specifically for the product and it would be put in landfill otherwise. We will be putting it on our shop site… I got a lot in and it has nearly gone. If you want some, let me know…. It hasn’t yet made it to the shop – sells out before we can load it. The average price of postage is $7, and the cost of the cartilage is $37. This is still cheaper than my local chemist which charges $49 for the same thing.

RESTORATIVE LEVEL 3

Please keep in mind that RYTA200, level 1 and 2 need to be done BEFORE level 3.

These levels all contribute towards helping you to be a better therapist. If you have not almost completed the teacher training course then you won’t have the anatomical and philosophical vocabulary to understand what we are doing. So work on your course, do the Restorative level 1 and 2, and keep this in mind for the next step. Come to my talks, and book for a workshop with me. Or book for a one-on-one to see how I work. There are four students ready for the level 3, believe me, I want this as much as you do. It is top of mind. LEVEL 3 really will happen in September.

HYPERMOBILITY

The Theosophical Society has asked me to give a talk on hypermobility in Melbourne on the 23rd of September. YOGA AUSTRALIA has asked me to talk on hypermobility in Melbourne in February? Or the YA Conference in March. I believe that this is essential in your yoga teaching. So you can catch me in September at the Theosophical Society Theatrette, or, you can keep watching this space to find out other dates and times.

INSURANCE

From the 1st July there will be changes, BIG ONES I BELIEVE…. I am working to make it a positive step. The insurance company will be looking after the insurances totally. Watch this space. Registration will be mandatory if you want insurance, and will be STUDENT or GRADUATE level. This will reflect on your insurance policy. The cost of the insurance will also change, but I don’t quite know how or to what extent yet. Watch this space.

We based the course on graduating students in an average of 18 months to two years. Keeping this in mind we thought (because you would not be teaching until you finished the course) you would not need insurance for those two years, so we gave you the first 12 months insurance and registration free, and ditto for the second – if you were not yet teaching. . However, this is changing as more people who are teaching already are joining our course to get registered and insured. If you are not teaching then you don’t need to be insured, and you will be registered when you graduate.

If you do start teaching whilst you are still working on the course, then you will need STUDENT REGISTRATION in order to get STUDENT INSURANCE. These are an extra cost and you should factor them in, as you must also factor in your videos which are also a yearly subscription. The first year is paid for in your fee, but from thereon it is up to you to renew. This is not an unusual ask. WE do not hide the fact, however, when I ask you to read the applications and other information SLOWLY, we anticipate that you have done that, and won’t be surprised. Keep in mind that we are providing the skills for a career for around $3,000. That is extraordinary. A charge for Registration and Insurance and $275 for a yearly video subscription is nothing in the light of that. ALTERNATIVES. AJGallagher seems to be the only one who will insure students who have not graduated but are teaching. I am looking at Dancesurance. They appear to insure students cheaply, and, if you have a studio, they are really the only ones who insure this with understanding. Cost? $276pa.

Why Register with THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE?

Thank you all the students who have responded to this call. Registration says you are a member of our school (and proud to be so), and at the very least the income received from the cost of registration allows us to give out scholarships, and help others in their desire to teach. It is not mandatory, but it is recommended, and we encourage you to do it. How do you support and encourage your lineage? – or do you perhaps dream up a more glamorous version, something featuring India perhaps? We have a wonderful lineage that goes back through the Gita School to India and Tibet. My Heart Guru, Margrit Segesman the founder of the Gita school (a very important part of our lineage) was sent to Australia from India and Tibet to teach yoga by her Heart Guru, but she never disclosed who that was – seeking to break the “guru tradition”.. When you register you are not just supporting our endeavours, you are acknowledging the wonderful teacher that Margrit Segesman was…and yoga is. A living tradition. Support us by being a fabulous teacher, and in time Affiliating with us, and taking our traditions into a complete Teacher Training School of your own.

CLASS TIMES

Please note these have changed.

THE STUDIO – 37 Morris Road.
Tuesdays – Restorative.
Wednesdays: 12.30 Hatha (AYI teacher trainees welcome)
Saturday: Philosophy 11.30, Restorative 12.30.

THE BENTINCK – Enter through the Romsey Road gate.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – Hatha Yoga 6.30pm
Wednesday – 5.30pm Restorative.
Friday – NEW CLASS – Meditation (Yoga Nidra) for beginners.
Saturday – Hatha 10am, Philosophy 4pm You will note there are less – For 50 years I have turned up with hardly a holiday to deliver the best classes I can come what may. Right now – things are getting in the way with you coming to class. I am told life is getting busy.

Teachers across the land are telling me there is less commitment. Less YOGA FIRST attitude. So I am cutting down the classes and concentrating on writing. Perhaps it is the right time for me to do this. At my age my own teacher was still taking classes, but life was different then, and she was not able to write until she retired. I can do both thanks to you, my students. I am cutting down my classes, and I am spending that time writing. I have important things to write about – yoga and dementia/alzheimers for instance (not my own!)…

The class prices at either place, Bentinck or Studio are be $15 per class, $135 for a 10 class pass or $100 unlimited for one 4 week month (no extensions – once the month is up the pass is done). Your present passes will be valid until they run out. Restorative Yoga therapy Consult (including a massage) with Jahne $155 first consult, $125 thereafter. Health Fund Rebate available.

TEACHER TRAINING AT THE HOME STUDIO:

The next will be on Sunday 6th August, 2pm to 4pm at my home studio (37 Morris Road in Woodend). Please join us – there is no need to book. Bring writing materials, and be early. Follow the Japanese Path at the side of the house. There is a notice on the door if you have trouble with direction. If you are a distance ed. student then the cost of the afternoon is $15. If you are a visitor you are most welcome – and if you are not formally a student teacher with us then the cost is $20. We have had the most wonderful trainings, there is nothing like them. Please do come. Park on the white gravel around the house, and in the open yard opposite.

Bendigo Teacher Training classes: Every fortnight from 3.30 to 5pm at Crusoeden Body. I will be teaching there on Tuesday 8th August. Turn at the Metricon building on the highway in Kangaroo Flat, Big METRICON sign on the building you turn at – also its a traffic light intersection, just up from Bunnings. Crusoeden is the building behind Metricon building, and faces Church Street. Its easy to find. Cost: $15 per class for everyone who attends – thank you.

(Directors – Jayne Boyle  – crusoedenbody@bigpond.com). Regular classes held –please email for timetable.

CLASSES AT OUR AFFILIATE STUDIOS IN EUROA, LYONSVILLE, AND SOON IN TARADALE. Pease email me for details.

THE SHOP AND ETSY.

For you that have never used ETSY it is fabulous and oh so EASY. You will find all our books, our CD’s on ETSY. (The Paul Grilley DVD’s are on our web site shop). Please go to www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. Or www.yogabeautiful.com.au The GARDEN

Is really suffering with the frost. I have been out there. But everything is sleeping. A bit of pruning done, nothing much else. The olives are holding up, and I need to feed everything before it gets ready for spring. Especially the lemon tree which has made an heroic effort and is laden, against all odds

THE OFFICE:

I am always as close as your email, and there are those who ring and manage to find me near the phone – NO LAND-LINE AT PRESENT, although theoretically there is a redirection to my cell.

YOGA NEWSLETTER 1st August’17

THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE IS MISSION DRIVEN AND MEMBER SUPPORTED.  BECOME A REGISTERED MEMBER……

MY DAY OFF

Just in case you think I actually take the day off every Thursday – I don’t. This flexibility of time is sometimes serendipitous, as it was last Thursday. Like you I am learning to REALLY, REALLY listen to those inner voices (God?) I needed to go to Melbourne, but at the last minute decided not to. I went to Paysanne for a coffee, and read a magazine, and then came home early. I made my morning call to Telstra as I am still trying to get services reestablished. I was told my appointment is for Monday 7th August – this is after 5 weeks with no phone, three of those with no internet either. I was just saying goodbye to Telstra when the doorbell rang, and there was the NBN/Testra guy unannounced at the door. They didn’t fix the problem, but we did take the next step.

If you think that becoming “NBN ready” is easy, don’t be fooled no matter what your “case worker” may say. Before you even make your first phone call get a dongle (USB WiFi). It is the best $40 you will spend, and it will mean that no matter what happens you at least will be able to talk to your customers – even if it is expensive!. Good luck. I still don’t have a phone connection after 5 weeks when Telstra promised a 15 minute down time!

NEW MEDITATION/YOGA NIDRA CLASS. Friday 6.30pm

This is a new addition to our teaching schedule, although I do other classes (not available to the general public) during the week. I was eavesdropping as people left the class, and a couple of students who haven’t done anything like this before, were discussing muscle twitching as if it was a reason they were not suited to the class. These twitchings are telling you that you are EXACTLY suited to the class. The involuntary movements (whilst scarey to some) are the muscles letting go of tension and we need a longer Nidra class to make this relaxation possible..15 minutes is not enough. Twitching whilst uncomfortable is a good thing. Allow it to happen, relax and breathe into it, and assist the muscles to let go of all their stored tension. When you do this, you will become raving fans of  Yoga Nidra. In time it will take you to a place of beautiful calm and rest.

HYPERMOBILITY

Hooray, THIS WEEK I have loaded a finished edition of the book and the DVD onwww.myyogabooks.etsy.com – it is not the end of the journey, just the end of the beginning. It is the start, please read it as that.

In the space provided by fewer classes I have finished my booklet and a DVD on Hypermobility. I have been promising this for some time, and now you will find it on ETSY. My yogabooks.etsy.com. I was looking at a review of Jackie French, and she has completed close to 200 titles. Two hundred. She must have been writing 10 books a year or more! She says she is prolific, and she is. I have to take up the challenge in between classes.

This morning the pond was totally iced over. This is the first time this year this has happened. Not thick enough to walk on it… but FROZEN. I have Jordan from Jordanslandscaping.com mending my fences this week (they fell over). I wouldn’t like to work out in that cold… although he is doing a fabulous job, and doesn’t seem to mind it. YOGA NEWSLETTER 11th August’17

THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE IS MISSION DRIVEN AND MEMBER SUPPORTED.  BECOME A REGISTERED MEMBER……

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

“Somebody just shared his knowledge with me and by the grace of God, I collected it. We are in a desert, and I have a little water with me that I want to share with people. Does that make me a water man? Am I the rain? Am I the clouds? Am I the ocean? No. I am just a little can of water in the desert to which people can touch their lips and think of surviving. Beyond that, I am nothing.” (Yogi Bhajan)

TEACHER TRAINING CLASS and etc..

No time for frivolity today. We had a wonderful Teacher Training class on Sunday. It went half an hour overtime and even longer for the few hangers-on (which is always a good sign). I am sorry that so many missed the class everyone there contributed and we problem solved around yoga, HJMS and personality types. It was great.

Why is it that some people feel compelled to be late to class. Is it that there is just no importance placed on time. The feeling that time, and when you turn up for class is not important – that just turning up is validation enough. There are those who are always on time or early and those who are always late (or absent after saying they will be there).

Please note: Arriving late to anything at any time – not just to class, or promising to do something and then not doing it – is stealing from yourself as well as from others(read your yamas).

Please get your friends and students to sign up for the newsletter – we have more readers in England than we have in Australia. Funny that! So thank you for being a reader. Please read right through and notice that we have all our books on ETSY, and on our Web Site we sell soft cover books, straps, props and CD’s (even alfalfa powder and collagen), you could actually save money.

THE MODULES

If you are new to doing the modules, please be patient with yourself and with me. As we say from day one, this is not a ‘tick this box” sort of course. It can be difficult, and I will send work back if that is needed. It does not mean that you have failed, or that I think you or the work is not up to it. It means…. “have another look at this, do a bit more research, and try again”. It is the only way that we can communicate as teacher and student unless you come to class, or email me if you are having difficulty, so it is important. Be easy on yourself (and me). You have lots of time to get it right.

EMAIL:

Please use the email address yogafirst@optusnet.com.au for anything to do with accounts, or the usual yogafirst2@bigpond.com. To get to me.

PHONE:

Thanks to NBN I still don’t have landline. I am still struggling with TELSTRA, and still I have the Internet but I have no phone. So, if you want to get me, then please TEXT me on 0402 088 170. I notice that Telstra and NBN have taken out a huge amount of advertising – don’t be lulled into a sense of false security. It is not easy, and no-one I know is better off with it than they were before.

HYPERMOBILITY

The book and the DVD are available via ETSYwww.myyogabooks.etsy.com I now have interest in our research from a Medical Centre/Spa in ShriLanka (I would love to visit), various MD’s around Melbourne, and England. I hope that you have the 23rd September written in your diary. That is the day that we will be giving a talk at the Theosphical Society in Melbourne. Restorative Yoga Therapy – Level 3 RESTORATIVE LEVEL 3

Please keep in mind that RYTA200, level 1 and 2 need to be done BEFORE level 3. The workshop timetable which includes LEVEL 3 attached above.

There is growing excitement around that we are doing, not just from our senior teachers, and those persons who follow our research in this are.

The book and the DVD are on www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

INSURANCE

From the 1st July there have been changes. I am working to make it a positive step. The insurance company will be looking after the insurances totally . Watch this space. Registration will be mandatory if you want insurance, and will be given at STUDENT or GRADUATE level.

Please read this….

THE SHOP AND ETSY.

For you who have never used ETSY please visit. It is fabulous and oh so EASY. You will find all our books, our DVD’s and CD’s on ETSY. (The Paul Grilley DVD’s are on our web site shop). Please go to www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. Or www.yogabeautiful.com.au. for the Paul Grilley DVD’s. If you are new and haven’t read about YAMAS, CHAKRAS then I have distilled them for you. Go to myyogabooks site as above and have a look – especially at the new book on Hypermobility.. The GARDEN

I am not a person who likes working in the frost – although I did used to do the pruning at the berry farm at this time of year when I was the owner. No-one else would! I understand that it is all about wearing warm clothes, but even rugged up “a la Hepburn” it was not my favourite past time.. I like being out there, and sometimes enjoy to sleep on the verandah in the cold when I need to. The garden on my verandah has been productive, and I am installing a new water feature, but will need help for that. Spring is not that far away.

THE OFFICE:

EMAIL ADDRESS. There was a problem with the server, but this has been fixed until the next time – For anything, anything at all please email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com. If you do not your emails may get lost. For money matters please email yogafirst@optusnet.com.au Do not ring unless you have not got email, or you have an urgent question. Email, leave your number and I will get back to you. Phones? We are being re-organised, even here….

So at the moment my TEXT number is 0402 088 170 – preferably leave a text or email. I will return your calls when I can – I am not a slave to either the computer or the phone, so you may find that emails or TEXT (which I always recommend) work out best. The mail address is PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic. 3441.

I am always as close as your email, and there are those who ring and manage to find me near the phone – NO LAND-LINE AT PRESENT, although theoretically there is a redirection to my cell. Don’t forget to Register, insure and re-subscribe to the videos. Don’t leave these to the last minute. Love and Blessings,  Jahne
