THE YOGA OF ART…..
Ever since I finished the “1000 Angel Project” I have been looking around for a new project. It is not something you can “think” into being – well I can’t. I wait for inspiration. Like ancient icons….spiritual paintings I believe must be inspired. It came to me that I might paint a “Buddha” a day for a year. Ancient and modern Buddhas, miniature portraits of Saints, Angels, Gods, and of course Buddha. Thinking images into being never works, but like writing, you have to start. Walking around the blank canvas every day won’t work. I began. Every day I do one painting, and prepare the background for the next one as they need to dry.
Painting miniature portraits was much harder than I anticipated especially as I required a narrative for each painting – even if that occurred during the painting as the image appeared to me. I kept painting, and on Friday the first of the images I have been waiting for came to me, and I have printed it below. The one below, is the Angel of Mt.Macedon. It has come to me on previous occasions, and on checking I realised I have a pastel image of it on the wall of my healing room. These new paintings at three and a half inches in diameter are not as small as the miniatures that had gone before, which didn’t express the spiritual I was looking for. Excited with these new images I burned all the previous miniatures – no going back, no compromise. I find doing this sets me up to move forward with purpose, and although it may not be your way – it is mine.
Yesterday at Church the Rev.Mel asked me what I was up to and I told her about the “Buddha a day” project, and it caught her imagination. Turns out she has books on icons which are a special interest of hers (who knew) and before long a round table discussion about the spiritual aspect of icons had begun, and how yoga fit with that. I don’t know where this will end up, but like taking the shoes off, something “is afoot” as Sherlock would say. About taking my shoes off before going into Church . I notice that parents are now requiring their children to take off their shoes before coming into the Church, so something is happening.
What have you done recently to encourage spiritual discussion in a group that previously managed only “small-talk”? Try it, it is hugely interesting and rewarding. With yoga, we mostly are preaching to the converted. Try engaging with the unconverted – or people who have never done yoga.
YOGA AND NARRATIVE MEDICINE
A new course coming for those students who are ready to take on a new challenge. Narrative Medicine is in no way new – and has been used for centuries by ancient and modern. This is a very interesting certificate course which emerged out of my work in deep relaxation on a one-to-one basis with clients, and in group Yoga Nidra sessions. It has proved to be a necessary part of my teaching, and I am sure that it will enhance yours. This course will lead to 500 hour certification… or just enhance your present yoga teaching. If you would like to know more, Please email me. I will have it up on a special site with all information as soon as possible. Email me in the meanwhile. yogafirst2@bigpond.com
KOMBUCHA CLASS. Saturday 22nd September at 2.30
I love foraging, and ancient recipes, and was introduced to Kombucha many years ago. In my house whilst the children were growing up there was always litres of Kombucha fermenting on the kitchen counter. It was a staple. No lemonade in our house!
When possible, I speak to people at Coles when I see them reaching for the Kombucha for $5 to $7 a small bottle!!! This has generated a lot of interest in making the precious fluid at home. However, I have learned that hardly anyone has the confidence to play just in case they make a mistake. Well how much of a mistake can you make with tea, water and sugar? Not much. However, I have been asked to have a class and so, on the 22nd September at 2.30 here at the studio I am having a Kombucha class.
It will be the usual $20 – the same cost as a yoga class, and you will get to see the process, taste my kombucha, recieve a piece of the “mother” (the scobie or mushroom which does the chemistry), a bit of the liquid, and a how-to recipe sheet. Think of the money you will save…. Always having a sparkling drop of Kombucha “champagne” to hand.
Later on, depending on interest, will then venture into the land of yoghurt making as our next class. Different ways, different recipes, and a tasting. Yet another way to save money and eat better.
Yoga is not enough. We need to know THE YOGA OF FOOD – THE YOGA OF LIFE
YOGA AT THE STUDIO and the Church
Thank you to everyone coming to class.
As usual lunch is provided to the community (not just us) by the Church. Don’t forget that we are running a FOOD BANK. So if you are finding the weekly food bill problematic, do come and add some free groceries to your shop – don’t be embarrassed. The food needs to be used. You would be surprised what there is in the store. Even kit-kats. More and more members of the community are turning up for the lunch, as you would! It is all hand made and beautiful. Home-made pumpkin soup, veg soup, cakes of all kinds, warm fresh breads, bagels, fruit platter… . The Hare-Krishna group would call it Prasadam. It is such a loving space. We always say grace and give thanks for the food – I think we should also give thanks for the company.
When lunch is over we do a 45 minute meditation/relaxation in the church. It is gorgeous to breathe in the peace of this sacred space, please join us.
One of our newest students said as she left “that was fantastic – I just didn’t realise how much was made available for us, and so close by… I will be here every week”. We have lots of space for lots more students, and I have some bookings for the Friday 3pm yoga class in the Church. If you can come, you will love it. And just the right price too – by donation! Experience not necessary.
STUDIO CLASSES are filling up. Please, if you say you are coming, come. If you can’t, then please let me know. My home Studio is not huge, and I want to take as many as I can, but I can’t hold your place if you only come occasionally. If you have told me you are coming to a specific class then I hold the place for you – it could mean I turn someone away which is unfortunate if you don’t come. Of course, if you want a private class to suit your very own special timetable, I can do that, but the cost of a one-on-one is $85.
Please keep in mind that the consecutive class passes are CONSECUTIVE. I love a phone call to alert me if you can’t come, but that does not mean that the pass will extend for one extra week free. CONSECUTIVE IS CONSECUTIVE.
ART HEALS
I am holding a free demonstration of my work on board with oil pastels at THE ALCHEMIST art shop in Sunbury. The first Saturday in October at 4pm.
I love teaching, and creative exploration (in any field, not just art) is a lifelong voyage of discovery where the journey itself is the goal. My sessions are designed to help you discover art making as a great nourisher of the human psyche, and to experience first-hand the potential in art for transformation, healing and insight.
Experience the joy of painting and drawing by learning to trust your intuitive self. Painting this natural, gentle way allows you to let go of the inner critic that keeps you away from your full aliveness and creativity.
All you need is the desire to paint, and the courage to express yourself. No art experience necessary.
TUESDAYS from7pm- 9pm
COST $250 for 5 classes – we are taking September bookings. We are experimenting with DOT MANDALA technique to add to our new skills.
All materials will be provided. By the end of the class you will have a unique image to take home, and frame to put in your own meditation room. Maybe good enough, stunning enough to be an heirloom. No painting experience needed. If you are nimble enough to sign your own name, you can do these classes.
FRIDAYS at 6.30 to 8.30 “Ladies Painting Nite” $30 per session. This can be a Sumii class for those who are interested, or a general class for those who are looking for acrylic pastel or pencil art.
SATURDAYS 9am SUMII (ZEN YOGA) BRUSHPAINTING – “ONE BREATH ONE LINE” $20 per session. This is the traditional painting on rice paper, but once the fundamentals are achieved, with a twist. On the longer classes, we will be doing it the “zen way” and painting things that can’t be painted. Love, joy, yoga, spirit, speed…etc etc. No right, no wrong, just what you can do. Your expression. We will be using traditional materials, we will be doing yoga breathing, AND A PAINTING will be the result.. Grind the ink, use the brush, paint the painting….. Sounds easy, BUT as in yoga, the foundations are everything.
THE ALCHEMIST ART STORE, Sunbury (just around the corner from Aldi in Gap Road. A fabulous store which deserves a visit.
When: Saturday 6th October at 4pm. I am doing an in-store demonstration of the techniques I use for Mandala/Buddha painting on wood. I will show you how to prepare the boards, the materials I use and how to use them. Just turn up. No need to book – although you could mention it when you drop in for a visit. Beautiful linen, beautiful framing, French Sennelier pastels, Golden paint range – They stock only THE BEST.
THE LATEST ART SHOW – THE REVELATION TAROT.
SHOWING NOW: An exhibition and sale of the original tarot cards. This cannot be repeated. If you are unable to come to the show, and would like to buy a framed card, you can, just let me know which is your favourite card and I will put it away for you – all $175 plus postage. You can come and collect it, or I can post it – although they are framed, so not inexpensive to post. Call me to register your interest: yogafirst2@bigpond.com
If you would like to donate ….. please direct debit any amount to The GitaJaia Yoga Foundation, Commonwealth Bank in Woodend. 063806 10200584. Any amount will help, no matter how small.
MY PENDULUM
My ETSY shop sells everything pendulum and this week I am putting up some miniatures. Pendulums you can carry with you at all times.
Please… if you want a session, WE CAN DO. We have been having terrific PENDULUM Classes at the studio. We can identify additional minerals and supplements, balance your diet, test for food sensitivities…. Health, business whatever. $55 one question, $75 two questions $150 for a general life reading for people who are stuck. On the farm I never made a change without dowsing first. If you want to see if it makes a difference go see what the farm has become without the magic of dowsing – it is a dying jungle.
If you want a life reading, your house made well from underground streams or geopathic stress, or want your garden explored for sculpture, rock or major tree placement sites… I can help you.
If you want a lovely pendulum I have made a few very interesting, unique pendulums and have put them on etsy. www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

If my park places are full, you can park in the drive-way directly opposite in front of double grey garage rolladoors. Not in front of neighbours driveways please.
