Dear Yogis,

Busy, busy as you are coming out of the covid mind-set.  Just relax and go with the flow.  If you (like me) have been vaxed, just work with what you have.  You can’t change what you have but you can change what you think about what you have.  “Nothing can happen that is not the way of God.  Trust that”.

SEWING BEE

I have been wearing summer skirts over my trousers… (My friend Annie once said “You would look quite attractive if your dressing was less unusual”.  I took it as a compliment although I am sure it wasn’t one).  I like the look, and my favourite is a layered taffeta.  How extravagant!  I thought I would make a skirt or two and went on-line to get the taffeta.  To people who sew out there – forget it (unless you have lots of cash to spare).  Taffetta is hard to get,  and any slinky patterned evening fabric is expensive –  $169 per meter is not unusual.  So, back to the drawing board.  I will be repurposing old dresses and dressing gowns I find in the op shops and I crave a beautiful silk or satin dressing gown for day wear as per Angel.  Even Dorothy wears a mini version.   Any fabrics/ clothes in op-shops/boot sales over $10 I used to think of “investment pieces”.  Op-Shops have changed, and charge more, but no matter what they charge, it is cheaper than fabric by the yard.

Keeping “economy” in mind.  I have been watching the Great British Sewing Bee.  One of the things they don’t manage well is wastage.  I watch them placing their patterns on the fabric and wonder if they would do the same if they were paying for the fabric, or if they had to account for it to a client.  I think not.  There are massive fabric pieces apparently thrown away – they could throw them in my direction, I would use them.
