Hi there yogis,
A FUNNY(?) Story.  I have been dithering about getting a new gas cooktop, and made the plunge.  The plumber arrived to connect at 8.30 AM, got it all organised and connected to the gas by about 11.30 but try as he might neither he nor his son (his apprentice) could get the gas to come through.  They tried everything – new regulator, new joints new this new that and still nothing.  They went for lunch whilst I had a yoga class, and then came back at about 3pm to get the problem sorted.
At about 7pm they found the problem.  Somehow, the apprentice had dropped his earplug into the gas line, hence no gas.  I must say his dad was not well pleased, and I would not have enjoyed the discussion over the meal table,  as they had (as a team) spent about 4 hours trying to locate the problem for which there would be no charge!  The appliance is working beautifully… no one lost their temper, and they kept on until the trouble was located.  Very yoga!

A SPECIAL BUY!  Look what I bought at the op shop yesterday – not entirely convinced by the colours, but it is a beautiful thing for working on and displaying future hats and collars.

Talking about that – my gorgeous son tells me he is making a special gown to photograph as he couldn’t buy exactly what he wanted, and is finding making the big collar (the feature of the dress – a step further than the intricate stitching and amazing medieval sleeves he is stitching) an amazing challenge!  I know feature collars are difficult,  and now we have another thing we can chat about!  Stitchery!  Who knew?

“re.MAKE” –    UPCYCLING, RENOVATING.

If your treasured items need re-imagining and mending, come see me – please make an appointment first.. I am pretty well booked until the end of October (unless you are a regular who needs a skirt/pants tweaked), so keep that in mind. SEWING BEE SUNDAY AT 2.30 at my studio, 37 Morris Road, Woodend.  I will be working on another quilt.  Last night I just had to quit because my fingers were aching from the hard stitching.  But it will be done.

A note to quilt owners.  If you have a cherished quilt, please check it regularly for wear and tear especially along all the seams.  Once they get to a certain stage they are a lifetime’s work just keeping them intact.  If yours was a gift to others, it does take away the need to worry about christmas gifts, because there will always be repairs needed on the quilt.

STEAM PUNK PARADE – this is still on the drawing board and we are in discussions with the Full Moon Saloon.  I want to include young designers, sponsor a prize for a new talent, and perhaps morph into a Sewing Bee style competition..  Watch this space and keep on stitching!!!!

SEE YOU IN THE STUDIO (and at the yoga lunch at the end of the month)

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Hi there yogis,
Last year the walnut harvest came in at 6 nuts, that’s all the tree produced.  I am hoping for a greater harvest this year.  I do have plenty of walnut wine and walnut liqueur but my walnut tincture is at a low ebb, so I am watching and waiting for the flowers and shoots for my Bach Therapies (and for some for you if you too are waiting for a harvest – 50ml $50 including postage.  That would be enough for a year at the very least, maybe longer).   The photo is one I took.  The shoots look too decorative don’t they, but that’s what you are looking for.  Remember to wear gloves when you pick as walnut contains an iodine like chemical (used to counteract radioactivity in the Ukraine where they are suffering under Putins attacks and can neither afford nor access pharmacological remedies.)

Walnut helps with protection from change and outside influences.

Walnut can be used:
For new beginnings – (it has been called the “link breaker” because it helps us let go of the old, and to accept the new): Starting school, moving, new relationships, marriage, divorce, jobs, way of life etc.
For new phases in life: pregnancy, birth, puberty, menopause, death, etc. To keep you following your own path – it helps you to be true to yourself – your beliefs and ideals without being influenced by the ideals and opinions of others.
For protection – to feel safe and protected against other people’s energies, outside influences/ interference, decisions/choices, and protection from environmental causes (allergens/pollutants).
To help adjust to changes: career/job, unforeseen circumstances/situation, family dynamics/relationships, time changes, seasons etc.

“For those who have definite ideals and ambitions in life and are fulfilling them, but on rare occasions are tempted to be led away from their own ideas, aims and work by the enthusiasm, convictions, or strong opinions of others. The remedy gives constancy and protection from outside influences.”  The Twelve Healers and Other Remedies, by Dr. Bach

I have just finished the (stunning) evening outfit to the left which  I constructed from three items which had gone out of fashion but made of fabulous material which is so hard to source.  I am very pleased with it, and I think it looks rather sexy. Most of the work was done by hand.  I did use a machine for the long straight seams as there is a considerable amount of material in the skirt and underskirts, although the bindings, french seams and lace are all oversewn by hand.

I will include photo when it is accessorised, the collar with bow and bling,  and on the way to the ball.  I am working on a quilt at the moment, and have an Empire line wedding dress waiting to be done.  Need your clothes reimagined, reconfigured? I would love to help.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Maybe it is time for me to change…  I have given most of my adult life (and my house) to yoga, but I doubt that it is serving me well at the moment the way that I am doing it.  So I am taking time to think about it.

Many of you are voting with your feet (it is the Australian Way),  and anticipating that when you are ready I will be sitting in the middle of the room waiting for you to do yoga.  Well, maybe I won’t, maybe I will be sitting in the middle of the room meditating – here or elsewhere –  and NOT waiting for you to come to yoga, and just doing yoga for those who want it.

Last nite I dreamed that I went out to class and when I came home the yoga room was totally empty, even the rug had gone.  There was a little note left on the carpet that indicated that everything had been taken for cleaning and mending and would be returned shortly in good condition, even the lining under the rug.  Everything had been removed –  the carpet cleaned the walls parking and the windows cleaned.  All the props, gone.  it was refreshing.   So there is change in the air and I am ready for it.

Here I sit doing the newsletter, which few of you believe you have the time to read and hardly anyone responds to, or even say Hello.   As I have said to you all many times….  Doing the same thing and hoping for a different outcome is the way to madness. My friend Uranda spent 10 years giving his lectures to his horse as no-one wanted to listen, and then someone did and his classes began – same with Prabhupada.  I have always thought it is a matter of holding the space.  Maybe there is a different way to hold it.  I am waiting for the “aha” moment.  I anticipate another 30 years, but not 30 years of “hoping” for an outcome –  I have always been pro-active, and that has not changed.  However, if I don’t hold the space, will you hold the space for your group, your family?  We teach by doing.  Coming to yoga, reading the newsletter, responding,  is all about holding the space.  Do you?

THE TAROT – The is the card I drew today.  What Ace of Swords Means for ME (YOU) Today

The Ace of Swords has appeared to show you that a new perspective or some kind of sudden realization is likely today. This can come to you as an ‘aha’ moment where your subconscious feeds you the answer to something,  after you have quit thinking about it. This sudden stroke of genius often feels exciting and empowering but can also be the first stage that leads to over-thinking. Thoughts are useful only when they are under our conscious control, so don’t let this influx of energy get out of control.
