Dear Yogis,

Thank you for standing back and “allowing”.

I have had a very successful SABBATICAL, and will be back to my yoga work in full swing in the next term FROM THE 2ND OCTOBER with a zoom workshop and coaching in BREATHWORK.

I have had a lovely time, linked with my childhood and past through sewing, and explored new way to paint, but in my cells I am a yogi.  I remember and have told you that my meditation Teacher (an Abbot) walked across America from Washington to California and back – this was his Sabbatical and he learned a lot, as have I.  It was a great break.  I still have a couple of sewing things to complete, but they will be done.

My first WORKSHOPS – “BREATHWORK” – is a favourite yoga practice of mine, which not only helps the lungs, it helps the structure of the body realign.  It can also assist in increasing abundance by changing the mind.  I hope to work with children too….

WHAT IS BREATHWORK?   Breathwork is a powerful practice that can ground, energise, nourish and empower you. It’s profoundly healing and incredibly simple.

Breathing deeply can dramatically shift the way you feel in your mind and body. It can bring higher states of awareness and a deep reconnection to self. When we stop and breathe, our physical, mental and energetic bodies are given the opportunity to heal.

The benefits of breathwork – When I sit with a client in a breath experience, introduce the breath –  I see the unfolding, reconnection, and opening to a new way of living right at the moment.

Breathwork can help you:   Alleviate anxiety, stress & depression – Build immunity –  Reconnect to your inner self  – Release unhelpful behaviour patterns – Shed old stories and emotions –  Feel more energised – Generate a new sense of freedom & inspiration –  Move beyond what you thought was possible – Relax and sleep more deeply.

Dear Yogis,

As Steve Jobs said “Wow, Wow, Wow”.  He was dying at the time and saw something wonderful ahead of him.  I can see something wonderful ahead of me, hence the “Wow, Wow, Wow”.  I am being introduced to wonderful fabrics, fabulous clothing, amazing fabric artwork and being allowed to play, to alter,  change and restore.  What a journey!   It means that I can follow my passion to restore, refurbish and recycle, as well as work with lovely vintage cloth and clothes. Also paintings, drawings, toys – anything can turn up.

Thank goodness for yoga and breathing.

Working on cloth and items that are valuable and irreplaceable needs calmness and breathing…. and certainly no panic.  I recall when I worked in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and was allowed to assist with the restoration of Russian icons.  It was heart stopping stuff – thank goodness I didn’t have the full responsibility for outcomes, but it was good training for calmness.

Walking home through the galleries,  out into the streets of New York, then to Grand Central and home to Westport Connecticut was the stuff dreams are made of.  Whilst this is not nearly as mind blowing (what is God doing here), it is never-the-less important and beautiful work, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to do it.  Restoring personal “icons” no matter what they are, is always important work.

Talking about restorations…..This is the “Late” Bamiyan BUDDHA.  Carved into the Bamiyan Cliffs are the two niches of the giant Buddha statues (55m and 38m high – one shown here) destroyed by the Taliban in 2001, and numerous caves constructed in the 6th century. .  If you look closely you can see people at his feet to give you an idea of size.   It was horrific, a crime against humanity, however, it is hard to “out-God God”, and what the bombing uncovered was 500 caverns behind the Buddha, some painted centuries ago, before the rest of the world understood about painting, or paint.

There is word that there are moves to restore the statues.  The destruction brought them to the attention of the world, and we have not forgotten.

Please Google it, there is much to learn.  If you don’t know the history, and change in your own small way, it can happen again.  The city that doesn’t know its past can never move successfully into the future.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Thank you to my lovely yoga students, especially those reading this!!  I often think no-one does.  It takes time to do on Mondays and Fridays just for you.  I know what i am doing, and i live in hope that you will want to know too.  Remember when i used to do this every day during lock-down, plus zoom every day.  Just getting one zoom class up and running at the moment is hard going.  Maybe as time passes you will have exhausted all the social things and will come back.

BACK IN THE STUDIO – As i said before……There are going to be front of house changes.  I have been looking around at galleries, shops, prices and time, and I have come to the conclusion that setting up a real gallery in my own house is a fabulous option.

I have the perfect space,I have had my carpenter visit, changes are on the way.  Nothing happens as quickly as i would like.   How many of you remember the classes in Gisborne and those in MtMacedon when I had my own gallery and ran yoga classes in the gallery (or showed are in the yoga studio).  It worked.  my own gallery – which I am thinking of calling “Gallery W”.  The “W” for both Woodend and Williams and Wix the web host.  .  I could call it Gallery JHW or just “J.H.W”, but who would remember that – hardly anyone, and who would know what is was, hardly anyone. I could call it Morris Road Studio, but that seems too long and too “grand” for a tiny gallery. “Gallery W” would make a lovely logo or “J’s Gallery of Small Things” which sounds rather lovely (“J’s GOST!”).  Having my own studio would mean that I could have all my art in the one place – right next door to the yoga!!!!  I made a list last night which sets put the steps needed leading up to the change and it is formidable…

What do you think? Let me know – I have had some positive responses.  yogafirst@bigpond.com

I will open (I think) Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and special days for special exhibitions.  It will take about a month to get organised.
