Dear Yogis,

Thank you all for your inspiring responses to my last newsletter.  We live in difficult economic times, not quite Paul Keating’s “the recession we had to have”, but still not pleasant, and every day flags go up to make us feel more and more unsettled.  Thank goodness we all have yoga.  Just because I don’t work in a shop or factory, does not mean that I don’t need or respect money.  I too need to eat.  Many people think that artists and yogis don’t need to be paid (in line with priests and other religious).  A newsflash. WE DO! We all live in the same town/city/country, and we need to be paid for the work that we do.

Have you seen the dancer Sergei Polunin?  A fabulous dancer and very complex person, he has had more than a couple of his tours cancelled due to his personal and political views, not made any easier by the three tattoos of Putin on his body.   Not just a dancer (can we say that –  “just a dancer?”).   He made his feature film debut in the 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, followed by a performance in the 2018 film Red Sparrow. Also in 2018, he appeared as Yuri Soloviev in the Rudolf Nureyev biopic The White Crow, directed by Ralph Fiennes.  He has chosen his films well, and they are among my personal favourites, not because of his presence, but because they are amazing films.  His recent instagram video of “Take me to Church” got him 17,000,000 views.  You will recognise many yogic asanas taken to their balletic apex.  A stunning work of immense physicality.  Watch it – you can google it.  Also catch up with “THE WHITE CROW”, a remarkable film.  Fiennes doesn’t direct rubbish “pot boilers”, and this won’t disappoint.

Dear Yogis,

I always try to keep my students top of mind and when they are hurting (financially or otherwise), I try to respond.  However, my concern is not always reciprocated, and I have realised that I am putting the whole at risk because of one small part.

From here on in, unless there is a particular financial difficulty, the cost of the classes will be $88 per month, or $220 per term, and this term started on Monday the 8th July.  It is not a school term and mostly includes holidays – I don’t take holidays.

As you have read on our web page, this is a consecutive school fee unless you come and speak to me and make other arrangement due to hardship.  I don’t have the kind of classes when a missing student is no issue.  Mine are very personal,  small classes, and I can’t afford for you to come and go dropping a few dollars in the hat each time – it works in the USA, it doesn’t work here.  Please keep this in mind.

If you want a casual class, by donation, then  the “YOGA FOR WALKERS AND WHEELIES” at The Norma Richardson Hall in Woodend is such a class – details below.

Hi Yogis,

What a lovely week.  The reality of my weeks holiday was sort of the same as usual, but my perception has changed.  The challenge is to get them to match up.  To realise that almost every week can have a holiday aspect if I see it in this way – instead of WORK.  I have more commissions (both needlework and art), and have nearly completed the “Angels and Elephants”…

Speaking of work (or play), I am going to do a miniature (relic? for those who understand) of Father Martin who retired from our parish this week after 14 years with us.  If anyone is “special” it is him.  Who bathed and kissed the congregants feet on Easter Thursday, and blessed the quilts?  – yes, Father Martin, and who cut my wood when I needed it? the same Father Martin.  Practical, spiritual, musical…. I am waiting to see what young person they have asked to take his place (no-one can!).  I am sure the women of the Parish can lend a guiding hand.

Some time ago I gifted a Tea-Bag miniature to Father Martin – A copy of the DALI “COSMIC CHRIST’.  My miniature is absolutely perfect in every way.    Spirit told me to give this to him even though I thought it may not be appropriate.  Obeying Spirit it was presented, it was then I learned that he had a print of this painting on his wall. It was  given to him by his mother who passed not long ago.  It is a  painting that has deep significance for him on many levels.  How good is that?

When I said goodbye on Saturday after his last Saturday service/vigil with us,  he introduced me to others as “..the artist who painted my miniature of the “Dali’s Cosmic Christ”.
