Dear Yogis,

Thank you for all those people who have dropped balls of wool in to the studio for us to begin making our pieces for YARN BOMBING.  I have begin chatting with the library to see if there can be a group there, and the local CWA seems to be starting one too.  So, co-operative efforts will get much further and may allay the fears that from the Greenies last time, that we would upset the possums when we decorated the trees in the main street (for 1 month).  I am sure that if decorated trees really upset the possums, there would be many more decorated trees!

HEALTH, in particular my health.  Although I teach older folk (seniors), it is remarkable to me how few take real responsibility for their health – my younger trainee teachers certainly do.  At the beginning os this year I had a blood test (I do this every couple of years to make sure I am on track – using my own bench marks).  The doc said that if there was an issue he would get back to me.  His nurse called a few days later – there was a concern – We all know that feeling!  When I arrived I asked what was the matter and the doctor said there was no “trouble”, he just needed to know what I do that most other folk don’t do.  My bloods were especially fantastic, to the point that I was almost a “different species”.  Answer, I eat my own weeds and greens, I do yoga every day and I am very busy living the life in front of me (not longing for the past).  I take supplements, I take a cold shower every day which has been life changing, I make most of my own “medicine” , and I cycle on average about 75 kilometres per week on my stationary cycle.  I don’t get up every morning checking my pulse, noting the aches and pains, and I don’t worry about imagined health concerns… and I am happy alone.

I remember my mother spooning some herbal concoction into my mouth encouraged by my father who said -“Your mother is so clever – she makes her own medicine and rarely goes to the chemist or the doctor”.  This attitude was celebrated in our house.  If more people worried less, and took things into their own hands.  For instance the student who booked in to see the doctor for a mosquito bite in case it got infected!!!  I told her to give the $75 to me and I would bathe the bite in disinfectant.  She would save time, money, and the possibility of being cross infected by some germs in the doctors waiting room – result, she didn’t trust me, and went to the doctor!.

WHATS ON.

Windarring Yoga –  Kyneton Tues. 1pm,  9.30AM in Gisborne (10 week term ending in September).

STUDIO YOGA WOODEND: Although these are small classes I take them VERY seriously. Monday Hatha 1pm (full) Wednesday Restorative 1pm,  FRIDAY RESTORATIVE 10am

DISABILITY YOGA CLASS (YOGA FOR WHEELIES AND WALKERS) in NORMA RICHARDSON hall, starting 9.30am every Wednesday (or a bit later)  by donation.   Arrive around 9.30 and we will start when we are settled.   I will be leaving around 11am..  I am not sure how long the class will last, or how long it will take to get everyone ready and moving, but we will be relaxed, and see how it goes.  Two students or more we always have a great class.  We are change makers.

>>>>>ZOOM DISABILITY YOGA TEACHER TRAINING. Our zoom section is done.  If you want to join the class, you will have to wait for the next one towards the end of the year.    If you want to join our regular Monday zoom class,  you can, but you will need to email me to get the ZOOM ID.

MAGIC CIRCLE TEACHER TRAINING CLASS starts Wednesday Sept 28th at 6.30 x 4. No-one responded to the original call,  so I have sent the call out to teach the class to other teachers.  A 4 part teacher training.  Maybe you are not convinced, and you won’t be,  until (like me) you introduce it to yourself, and then your classes.  I even did a supported plank yesterday and could immediately see how this one exercise would help my class.  Luckily via zoom and writing,  I can introduce the new way I am working to an overseas group of dedicated teachers who are always looking for new, efficient add-ons to help their classes…  this is where the web has real value (see the quote above).

If you are enrolled and started the zoom training above, and/or the Disability course, there is a chance that I will get approval to accept my students for a period of placement with me.

NEXT STUDIO TEACHER TRAINING – The last Sunday in August THIS SUNDAY the 25th AT 2.30

YOGA MONTHLY LUNCH: Last Saturday in the month 12 noon at Full Moon next to the Vic in Woodend. .  Please email me if you would like to come.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

This design to the left isn’t just a set of pretty lines, it is a Tibetan Music notation. A fabulous way of writing the music that Tenzin Choegyal  plays.  Before he was famous, before he became the Dalai Lama’s personal musician, he came to woodend, spent time in Woodend and Kyneton.  He did a concert in our studio, at Innisfree rehab centre and our library hall.  Then Tenzin  and three other monks shared with us a Tibetan Kalachakra Sand Mandala Ceremony (which took three days to complete).

I was sitting by the Mandala one morning very early when the cleaner came in.  He said to me “these monks aren’t very bright are they.. If they put an adhesive sheet as a backing to the sand they wouldn’t need to scrape it up and put it in the river”.

This Saturday Tenzin featured on the Music Show on Radio National with Andrew Ford.  He sang my favourite Mantra and favourite of all his music THE HEART SUTRA – “gate gate pāragate pārasaṃgate bodhi svāhā, meaning “gone, gone, everyone gone to the other shore, awakening”.

Today I finished the painting/waxing of the Chinese Ginger jar, and next I am going to do a portrait of Tenzin Choegyal, especially the hand made Tibetan lute which features in all of his music.  I will try to get it finished in time for my exhibition in Mt.Macedon in September.  He has carried this lute ever since his escape from Tibet into exile when the Chinese invaded his country.  I think his rendition of the Tibetan National Anthem is especially touching – He plays it without words to bring to mind that in Tibet, just for singing it you could be sent to prison or killed.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

I am very reminded of a Biblical quote (and it is enticing).  I have thought of it many times since lockdown, and as i said, it is calling to me. Words to this effect occur four times in the Bible, and are then echoed in writings thereafter (and the emotional results are in the Tarot card to the left).  I even took my shoes off in church because of the interaction between Moses and God at the burning bush incident – slightly different.  But I am sure you have heard the one below.

“And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye go out of that house, or that town, cast the dust off your feet. For he that lives in any place seems to have a kind of fellowship with that place. By the casting the dust off the feet therefore all that belonged to that house is left behind, and nothing of healing or soundness is borrowed from the footsteps of the Apostles having trod their soil.”

I am very excited about the help and enthusiasm that can be brought back into the classes by the use of the MAGIC CIRCLE, even when being used by those with little understanding or strength.  However, if I get a great audience from those living with disability, then that is the audience I will turn to.  I can tell you, the improvements – physical, mental and emotional – are visible.  Everyone loves to succeed (me too), and this is a way….

I understand that you all think that EVERYTHING can be delivered by video, and you can all access classes “when you feel like it”, rather than keeping a commitment, but I like the extra possibilities of a physical class.  I am teaching teachers by zoom because they can’t come to class, BUT, it is not my preferred option.  That being said, I might have to do it zoom, although I don’t think it is possible to give the individual attention to the class that I can in an actual class.

Another change (to fit in with NDIS difficulties in acknowledging yoga) I will be adding a sidebar “MY MINDFULL MOVEMENT” Coaching (and getting a new logo and cards) .  This will make accessing NDIS easier,  and the NDIS registration I have will be meaningful – you will be able to access it on your plan if you have one.
