Hi there Yogis,

Well, I had my flu injection on Saturday morning.  I don’t feel flu’y however, I have got a cold sore.  I haven’t had one of those for years, and my skin is extremely itchy… so I think it has stirred up a herpes virus which has been sitting dormant somewhere in my body just waiting to be woken up.  The remedy for this is DANDELION (roots and greens), which I will be sourcing wherever I can later in the day.

There is so much to do now I am living in a different era to the rest of you – wood fire (carting, and stacking wood), herbalism, jamming, gardening. You will be pleased to know my little French smoothing iron is working beautifully.  Last night I did the first ironing with it – it is heavy, and it doesn’t lose heat like my electric  cordless ironing station.   It is that little word “electric” that makes all the difference.  Now I am “unplugged” in that regard… but I am still walking backward.  There are other things I need to walk backwards in time effectively.  I don’t think I will be walking without shoes or socks to collect eggs at 5 in the morning as Tash Tudor did (I am told).

If you want to be more self sufficient, let me know.  There may come a time when there is little option.  Hard to think about when all is good, but, as the Buddha said – “This too will pass”.  He was not just talking of troubles, but of all things, good and bad.

GOODBYE TO PLASTIC BAGS….

There are two types of thick reusable plastic bags the Woolworths Group sells for 15 cents and 45 cents (as does our local Coles). They were brought in back in 2018 after the supermarket phased out single-use plastic bags.

Woolworth’s changeover to paper will happen over the next year, but when exactly will depend on which state you’re in — and how many bags your local has in stock. “We know the change may be an adjustment for some customers and that’s why we’re phasing this change in over the coming year,” Woolworths supermarkets managing director Natalie Davis said.   Big W and Woolworths will begin gradually running down stock of the bags before they’re cut off completely.  The Group says this will be complete by June next year.

If you forget your bag (as I often do), paper bags will still be available for 20 cents.   “But ultimately, we want to sell less bags altogether,” Ms Davis said.   Woolworths’ paper bags are made from 70 per cent recycled paper, are designed to carry up to 6 kilograms and are supposed to be reused.  Because it is close handy I do use Coles ,  and I have not seen any re-usable paper bags with handles at that store.  I will let you know when they catch up with Woollies!

Why do I use Coles? I would have a 20 minute car trip plus parking problems to get to Woollies which would cancel out any savings in terms of renewables.  IGA is going open in our town.. however, the council keeps on demanding more and more compliance, and combine this with covid problems and the opening  may be some time off, however, everyone is waiting for the day it does.

It will absolutely impact Coles which has I think become clearing house like “CostCo” (as has our Kmart).  You cannot guarantee brands or stock.  When they have sold a shipment you never know if (or when) more of the brand you want will arrive.  Coles is all about profit.  They no longer “obviously” support the community. For instance they have done away with the beloved and I think essential,  Community Notice Board (they do have room for half a dozenA4 pages!), and they have left over,  non-food what looks like Target Stock in baskets in the isles – blankets, cupboards, and so on. Plus the frozen vegetable section is bereft of produce unless you want pizza, peas or chips which take up most available space.   Please bring back Ivor Johnsons original town supermarket.  He cared about the community.

PLEASE MAKE TIME FOR THE ONE HOUR FREE TEACHER TRAINING ZOOM THIS EVENING.
WE ARE REPEATING “THE PURUSHATRAS”.  We did a long session in the studio yesterday, but it brought to me how these definitely need repeating every so often. If you don’t get an invite, email me asap and I will send you an ID.  It starts at 6.30 – please don’t try and get an ID AFTER this time – I will be busy and not answering emails!

Dear Yogis,

Apart from a pile of wood in my front yard which I need to move, there is not much new today.  Last night I started renovating a little black vest.  It was a boring piece of clothing, but lovely tailoring, and I decided to add some appliqué and a spotted ribbon tie..  It will be an ongoing project, which will hold memories albeit vicarious.  Last night the memories were of the Trooping of the Colour in London for the Queens Jubilee.

I admit, I was born in London and one never does cast off those ties.  I love all the pomp and ceremony, although I watched out for the disgraced Prince Andrew, and yes, there he was,  firmly tucked behind the family on a beautiful horse.  There was so much regalia that you had to look hard, but I am pretty sure it was him. I suppose disgraced or not, this would be the only chance for him to take part in such a special occasion (his Mum’s Jubilee), but I think I would have left him at home.    But,  I am tough about that.  No Harry/Markle team, but “yes” to Andrew?  The queen does look frail.  I wonder if we will see her around next year?  She is certainly a survivor and we need those.

Looking at the Queen, and thinking about some of you who are collapsing into infirmity without really thinking about what you are doing (poor darlings, this is a good part of your life but you are not watching) – what I think about this part of my life is this –  God gave me a whole lot of gifts which I chose to use or not.  They used to be easy to access, but now there are quite a few things that I either find a bit too hard, or less accessible.  Things have started to fall away, and reality is changing.  I am starting to explore things I can do, and want to do, so there are some benefits.  Those “adventurous” slightly “iffy” things I haven’t yet done,  I will leave until such time as a doctor or other(?) says you have….months to go. Then I will pull the covers off, and let her rip.  See you there!

ART –
I do love cutting and pasting, bodies,  anatomy, collage, art.
So I will combine all of these into some artwork.  I am not sure when I will have the concentrated time to do this, as I have loaded up my days, and then I have the wood to shift before it rains, and so on – there is still the garden, yoga and massage to work into the day.  But I will get there…  I would love to have a studio exhibition and really cover the walls.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Thank goodness I have a little wood fire… we were told the weather yesterday would be cold, but this morning is freezing, although (thanks to the wood  stove) the temperature in the house is OK, warm, lovely.  I am not chill.  I am glad I did my chores up the mountain yesterday when the weather was good, because snow and wet isn’t terrific on winding roads, particularly with heaps of sightseers who have never travelled on winding road, or snow.  I hope you are warm wherever you are.  Those lovely “lollipop” people who wave us on during roadworks are certainly earning their wages today.

HERBAL WORKSHOP

Last night at the HERBAL WORKSHOP we looked at making ROSEHIP CORDIAL.  Rosehips are at their very best for harvesting at the moment.  They are juicy and wrinkled and bursting with vitamin C.  I have made this enough times that I know the shortcuts, and totally forget about fiddling with seeds and fur.  I add ginger and grapefruit peel to the completed cordial and it tastes splendid.

It is interesting that WILKD ROSE REMEDY in Bach Flower Remedies is given for despondency/apathy, for people (or animals) who have collapsed into their fate…this remedy will pull them out of their gloom.  Rosehips contain VitaminC and it is interesting to me that this vitamin protects, and lifts your immune system.

We also considered making LAUNDRY BOMBS and LAUNDRY FABRIC SOFTENER.  I still haven’t made the tumble dryer squares, but I will.  There is so much to do.  I am writing down everything I am making and putting them into an etsy booklet called “CLEAN AND GREEN with Jahne”.  You might think we are moving into a period which replicates “The Roaring Twenties”, but I am cautious about this.  Although you can’t buy houses cheaply anywhere in Woodend, the prices are moving downward in outlying districts.  You can even buy a do-upper for about $400,000.  Any house at this price has not been available for a number of years.  So, start saving your pennies, things are changing – and that is why I am going back in time.  House prices are coming down but food and services are becoming more expensive. I am preparing.  If you want to know the old ways and you don’t have a mother or grandmother who has experienced them, I have.  You can come to me.  Conversely, if you have old recipes and old methods you would like to share with our group, I would love to hear from you.

TEACHER TRAINING:

We are enrolling our new Teacher Training classes.  If you are still working through the course, or if you would like to start there is no better time than NOW.  We have a FREE Teacher Training zoom session (only an hour which is as much as most people can put aside?) on Mondays at 6.30.  Last Monday we considered THE SANGHA and THE THREE JEWELS.  Where were you?  I don’t record them firstly because I believe you should be able to put aside one hour a WEEK for your yoga teacher training class, and secondly zoom charges us to record.  If you can’t spend ONE HOUR a week, then… please consider that I already invest in preparation, study etc to bring the sessions to you.

With regards to where we find ourself in history, there is always the Buddha to return to.  He said “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”, and “This too shall pass”.
