Hi there my yogis,

The next few months are going to be even more hectic than usual.  I really enjoy our monthly luncheons even though so few of you make it a priority – it is a priority for me. I have optimistically booked for the LAST SATURDAY IN APRIL – the 29th.  Please diarise it NOW.  The FULL MOON SALOON at 1pm.  The menu is fresh, wholesome (vegan catered for) and changes all the time.

THE TAROT EXHIBITIONS.  I have two tarot exhibitions coming up.  The first at the Mt.Macedon Gallery in June, and then at the Theosophical Society, (234 Flinders Lane in Melbourne) in July plus a zoom presentation with the Tarot Guild.  I am painting the tarot on Tea Bags.  When I took them in to the Society last week they loved them, thank goodness, and were more than happy to give me space, not just for an exhibition but for ongoing collaborations.  If you haven’t visited the new building housing the bookshop and library, please do, it is worth the time.  I usually spend a little time at The Chapter House coffee shop behind St.Pauls Cathedral in Flinders Street, and then meander down to the Theosophical Society.  They are open for the public 11am to 4pm on Thursdays and Fridays at the moment.  The dust is still settling from the move, and they are searching for staff.

MY PAINTINGS

Although I started with wonderful (I think) result painting The Rider Waite Deck, I started to read Egyptian history, which led me to Crowley and his Thoth Tarot.  If you know anything about Crowley, he was a mystic/magician/yogi and so on whose sole aim was to reach enlightenment.  Certainly the more metaphysical aspects of yoga kept his attention throughout his life..  Because I had been introduced to his work as a dark magician, I stayed apart from his writings and his tarot, however, most recently after I had painted the RW FOOL, I wondered what Crowley said about this image in The Thoth.  Well, nothing could be more different.

Have a look at them.  The RW (Rider Waite) FOOL, is a prissy little person in a lace frock, fiddling about on the edge of a cliff, his handbag well out of the way.  Everything clean and neat.  The waves do look a little boisterous, but not violent.  The dog is the only animated item in this image. The Fool could be dancing to his future, but he certainly isn’t jumping into it.

Now look at THOTH TAROT.  The Fool is large,  muscular and throwing himself into the future through time and space which reminds me of the writings of The Late Carl Sagan a celebrated astrophysicist who wrote “The Cosmos” and  “CONTACT”  Remember the trip through the galaxies in the “pod” – So much like this card.  Carl was also interested in yoga and the tarot and could have been inspired by this card (among many other buddhist writings).   There are many Egyptian allusions and you could almost do a reading just with this one card.  Look closely for the dove, the crocodile, the caduceus, the chakras, and so on.

EGYPTIAN HISTORY.  Thoth was the god of the moon, sacred texts, mathematics, the sciences, magic, messenger and recorder of the deities, master of knowledge, and patron of scribes. His Egyptian name was Djehuty, which means “He who is like the Ibis.” He was depicted as an ibis bird or a baboon.

Dear Yogis,

Only one message this morning.

Our MONTHLY YOGA LUNCH is at The FULL MOON SALOON in Woodend (Yes, I always call it The Lone Wolf Saloon because of the wolf in the logo).  When?  THIS SATURDAY at 1pm.  Please join us.  The food is fabulous, and the ambience is great too.

Pluto in Aquarius; the biggest astrological event of 2023

For the first time in two and a half centuries, Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth will move into the sign of Aquarius, on March 23.   Pluto can bring endings and downfalls and her destruction  paves the way for a better world with positive progress, even if we cannot see it at the time.  Many people can relate to the energy of Pluto on an individual level. It pertains to transformational trauma, shadow work, power struggles and secrets being revealed. Pluto’s trek through Aquarius is a long one, affecting generations of people and changing the world and our individual lives.

Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and after it moves into Aquarius on March 23 it will return to Capricorn in June before settling back into Aquarius in 2024 through 2044.  Pluto’s three month visit into Aquarius will give us a preview of the transformations to take place until 2044.  The last time Pluto went through Aquarius was 1778-1798 and history tells the tales of the American revolution as well as the Age of Enlightenment.

Because Aquarius rules new technology, many inventions were created then like the hot air balloon, the sewing machine and the small pox vaccine. Your tarot would have been flagging changes for the last few weeks.  The Tarot is not predicting, it is heralding change, giving you the opportunity to move cleverly in your life.

The Tarot when i read it advises and consults.  It is not a predictive tool, although it can be – the tarot is a way to negotiate change, and easier than the maths involved in astrology (as much as I admire those who do it).  Try the tarot – read it every day.

CLASS TIMES ETC.

The new term will soon be here.  I have students who have opted out of the term fee, having asked for it.  Seems it is easier to deal with fees on a monthly basis.  I used to have a student who paid BY THE YEAR.  Once she had paid that was that.  She came to anything and everything.  It worked for her.  If you want to pay by the year it is $1,000 and you can come to any session.  If you don’t want to pay for the year in advance (few do) the cost is $88 for four classes, or $220 per term.  There are no refunds – if you miss a class you can do another make-up class in the same week (not next month or next year).

Just a reminder of times and changes.  I will be doing a zoom INTRODUCTION TO DISABILITY YOGA.  When I learn something useful, that add to our studio skills, I bring it to you… and I am doing it again here.  I will keep you posted.  I am still working on the book, it will be a biggie, about 60 A4 pages to download.

JAHNE

Good morning yogis..

Please diarise our Yoga Monthly Luncheon which happens on Saturday next – 1pm on the 25th March,  at The LONE WOLF SALOON in Woodend.

Lunch sounds good, but it could be tropical here by Saturday.  Saturday was 30C I am told, but this morning is about 12C I think.  It is cold and windy.  Yesterday up at The Gallery (I missed seeing you?), the weather was soft, damp, misty and romantic.  I have seen weddings happen at The Mount in that weather – add a bagpipe, tartans and carriages and you will get the picture.  If you have to get married, you won’t get more beautiful and haunting than such a one.  Beautiful.

The Card for Today.

The Knight of Cups: – I haven’t painted it yet – and will share the image with you when I do.  The knight’s message is to keep everything in perspective – don’t let emotions rule your life.    When you get the Knight of Cups, ask yourself the following questions. How well-balanced are my feelings? Do I disregard my emotions or do I let my emotions control me? What can I do to tidy up my emotional life?     The Knight is urging you to embrace your emotions rather than push them away. Although this may be new to you – you might be surprised at how quickly you will feel better if you just take a moment to feel your feelings

PRESSED FLOWERS.  The weather is coolling down and there are not many flowers about, but there is lots of spidery foliage to be had.  I have been pressing flowers for years, and have four presses – my starter, a small one with straps and then three I made for myself (getting bigger every time).  The photo to the left is of a framed piece – I always forget to photograph BEFORE I frame.

Next Month I am going to have a lovely afternoon of pressed flowers, champagne and chocolates (and Texas tea).  You will get a flower press to take away with you.  I will show you have to manage, and you can use some foliage and flowers I have collected a head of time, although you can start collecting now and bring them with you.  You could make cards, pictures, decorate furniture, even rooms (take note of “Escape to the Chateau” – Angel uses pressed flowers on walls).  We will learn the challenges and how to succeed at them all.

When: Sunday April 16th, 2pm to 4.30(?). Cost: $55 all inclusive – drinks and nibbles, flower press, foliage to press, using glues, experimenting on different surfaces, finishing.    Email to book your space.  yogafirst@netcon.net.au
