GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES  Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….   Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs.  Our programs include training in meditation, asana.

Yesterday (Sunday) was my birthday.  I would like to thank those students who sent flowers ,  cards, the cake+candles at Innisfree and at lunch sitting and gazing out of the WineBar windows at the Mt.Macedon panorama.  Superb..  I will get around to the “thank you” notes….by hand, not email.      I had my 21st Birthday last year, so I am inching forward but not too fast! Age is just a state of mind, and I feel about 35 – a much better 35 than the last one!

As with Christmas – it,  seems to last more than a day.   I have a few birthday catch–ups this week which I am looking forward to – plus Capricorns are attracted to Capricorns, so there are few friends with birthdays this week – Happy Birthday to you too!!!

Thanks again team.

THE NEW YOGA TEACHER TRAINING STUDIO COURSE
The first workshop of our new course will be held on Sunday 24th January at 2pm – Yoga Nidra and DEEP RELAXATION .  We will do the introductions and the sign ups at this time.
Please talk to Debbie our Registrar on Tuesdays or Wednesdays for further information.

This new teacher MASTER Training course is almost full up.  If you want to join in, then it is possible if you get in quickly.   However, if you don’t have time, or just want to do “bits”  I am going to make it very easy for you – you can decide to do JUST the workshops if you already have a teacher training qualification, or perhaps just an interest in the topic of the month..

1.  You can come just for the monthly workshops and pay for them individually ($60 per workshop), and get certificates just in those – there is a distance ed requirement in each.
2.  You can add this to your teacher training course as an elective, or just to get extra skills.
3.  OR you can do the  RESTORATIVE YOGA TEACHER TRAINING MASTER COURSE in its entirely and get a 500 hour certification at the end.

I will be personally teaching a workshop each month in various therapies you can add to your repertoire in order to have lots of options for a one-on-one yoga practice for your clients.   Pendulum, Bach therapies, Yoga Nidra and DEEP RELAXATION (this will later expand to a hypnotherapy program – hugely useful in the Yoga Nidra style of relaxation yoga) and more.  They all fit together.
If you register your interest I will let you know personally how to join in.  I understand it is not for everyone.  As usual there will be a distance ed.  Component and yes, you will be able to organise a payment plan with Debbie.

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!
We are still asking for your help. I wondered if any of you out there had finished with their book and would like to sell it back to us, WE WOULD LOVE TO BUY IT OFF YOU.  We can get it secondhand from time to time for $25 to $30.  We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.   yogafirst2@bigpond.com

THE SPA – Debbie, Julie, Amanda and myself have banded together to rescue the cottage and turn it into THE HEALING SPA AND SANCTUARY.  This will be a fantastic addition to the whole complex.  As you would have read in the blast to all our Victoria Teachers, we are looking for teachers and therapists.

We have lined up a superb Tarot/Astrology Therapist,  an Ayurvedic massage practitioner, A fantastic Masseur with amazing qualifications and lots of different massages to offer, the Nail Spa Apprentice of the Year,  Amanda is amassing wonderful crystals, artifacts and clothing, and Lorraine is getting her “Blessed Herbs” ready  for sale..and we are offering hypnotherapy.  We are going to be the place to go.  There will be an “open day party” I am told!

NEW CLASSES – NEW TEACHERS
There will be new classes, and new teachers going into the new year.  Not because we are trying to confuse you, or be difficult.  Many of our teachers have more than yoga to deal with (families, other occupations) and this is the time when those changes are made.  Often suddenly.  It is the yoga that matters, it is not about the teacher.

THE CLASSES:  If you are wondering what level to join here’s a clue.  The General class is a more vigorous class, the Restorative is a very gentle class and Yin-Yoga lies between the two.  If you haven’t done yoga for a long time, you may like to start with Restorative, move on the Yin and then take your pick of the general classes.

TEACHERS WANTED.  WE ARE OPEN TO INTERVIEWING EMERGENCY TEACHERS.  If you are one or know of one “on the lamb”, please let us know.  There are always unexpected things happen in family, and right now, we really have to search to get teachers when a regular can’t make it.

WHERE IS THE BENTINCK?  “The Bentinck” is on the corner of the Romsey Road and the High Street in Woodend.  Enter from  the start of the Romsey Road only.

PARKING: No matter which class you come to – as you enter the Romsey Road gate, Yoga parking is either to the left or the right of the gate – on the inside of the gate.  If that is full, then the space over the road is always available.  PLEASE DON’T park in the central space – even it is empty and you are late, this is for Innisfree staff coming and going.

There is no need to park on the road if there is room inside the gate to the right or to the left, and a huge space available just across the road if all is full inside.  Please do not go to the front of the building in Carlisle St.  That is for residents.

www.yogabeautiful.com.au  If you are looking for any changes in times and days, then please go to the web site.  You will find everything there. There is also our blog.  www.ministryofyoga.blogspot.com.au

What you are may sometimes miss the mark,  a prisoner in liberty.
Get up somehow, get clean right now and be a happy, happy child set free.

SPIRITUAL YOGA CLASS – DIVINE YOGA:  (an absolutely favourite class of mine)
Mondays at 1.45, followed by meditation 2.30 to 3.30.
Please bring an open mind – this is a ‘ guided’ class.  We will be exercising the muscle between the ears (the brain).  Do come along….  No children please.   I love children in yoga but this particular class is not appropriate for children.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “JAHNE’S YOGA UNIVERSITY” Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

THE SHOP and ETSY  www.myyogabooks.etsy.com As usual we are ahead of the pack.  Colouring books are the new big thing, and we have had our colouring-in posters available for a long time now.
This week I received an email from one of our students who had purchased the chakras and colouring book and REALISED THAT COLOURING THE DRAWINGS  WAS A MEDITATION.  I celebrated.  It has taken a year for a student to understand the reason for the drawings. THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU……!!!
ALL OUR IN-HOUSE DVD’S AND CD’S ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS SITE.  Please remember that they are not flashy high cost productions.  They are made by Deb and me to answer your various questions.  They are useful in your course.
*YIN YOGA, THE ANATOMY AND THE CHAKRAS all by Paul  Grilley *THE YAMAS  *THE UN-MEDITATION COURSE  *YOGA SWINGS *THE REVELATION TAROT *HOW-TO STUDY YOGA BY DISTANCE EDUCATION – A BOOKLET….. *THE CHAKRAS – A COLOURING-IN BOOK and a REFERENCE BOOKLET -*CHAKRA BOOKLET

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so): If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only.     Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course.  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes.   Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

Also, just signing up and not sending in any modules means you are not really a trainee yoga teacher, and unless we receive regular communication (even if it isn’t modules), at a certain point we will deem that you have disconnected from us, and we will disconnect from you.  And, coming to class with no intention of completing the course just to get the cheaper, easier student insurance, and free classes isn’t exactly living the yamas!  Sooner or later we will call your bluff.

I have found  if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….

VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.  The price hasn’t increased since we originally put these on our site.  Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.  I have shown you what I recommend..  All you have to do is download.  I even did a video on ‘The Gita.  Good feedback thus far – thank you.      Please.  Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly. OH YES, IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE SUBSCRIPTION, THEN PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEOS.  IF YOUR NAME IS NOT EDGAR CAYCE THEN YOU CAN’T LEARN WHAT IS ON THE TAPE FROM SLEEPING WITH YOUR COMPUTER! yogafirst2@bigpond.com

In response to requests, there are more philosophy videos out on the web site.  Subscribe today if you haven’t already. You asked for them, I have made them.

GARDENING WITH BENEFITS The pots on the verandah are providing me with so many wonderful greens for my smoothies.  They are easy to manage and easy to keep watered – which is difficult in the garden with those hot winds.  Try pots if your garden has not been successful.  Gardening in pots is fast, easy and usually successful.

COOKING WITH JAHNE
Yesterday was my birthday, and I was taken out to lunch which was beautiful.  Thank you gang.  That meant that I had a larger than usual mid day meal.  In the evening I had my lunch of poached fruit and berries from my garden on top of two small lacy gf pancakes which I made too (Why make flat ones when you can have fancy?)…My body didn’t mind the meal switch and I slept soundly.

Think YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley…before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this. www.yogabeautiful.com.au

REGARDING DEBBIE If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  On those days she is available on Ph: 0354 273 518.  I am always here, and available preferably on email or text because I teach and am not always at my desk.  Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can.
THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..

GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES

Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….

MAKING SMALL CHOICES  Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca famously said to Ingrid Bergman that their lives “don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world” and I must admit there are times when it feels like that to me, and I know it feels like that to you.    But with the season of LENT coming up on the calendar I have had the growing feeling that actually small choices can matter a great deal.  Like ripples on a lake, everyone of those small choices, those millions of decisions we make in a lifetime has the potential to change the world (I am not saying that do, but that they could do)  – but where to start?  What seem like small choices to us may well be part of a much greater plan and purpose.  Mistakes may be put to good use and chance becomes opportunity.  I think that God made us not just to be but to BECOME.  If we know anything at all, we know we have been given the will to choose.  We can rule wisely or badly, respectfully or just raping and pillaging.  We have the glory of choice.  We were not created with huge brainpower for nothing!   Even if you have not been exercising wise choice lately, it is never to late to start.

THE YOGA NIDRA WORKSHOP was fantastic.  Thank you to all those who turned up.  We had a couple of amazing personal breakthroughs in the practical session (which weren’t looked for – they just happened), and a good learning was had by all.  I did alert everyone that it was possible to go very deep with this technique, and it appears it was easier for you than I had anticipated.  I have been asked to consider putting on a mandala workshop with meditation as the next one.  It is just a matter of moving the workshops around so we will do this.  It will not however be a MIDNIGHT MANDALA workshop.  We will leave that for the winter.

GARDENING WITH BENEFITS

This unseasonal wet cool conditions means that the berries have quit earlier than usual, and the garden is growing fiercely and new shoots are appearing.  I will have to wait and see what is happening.  The apples are looking great, and the plums are nearly ready, but with the wind there has been a lot of windfalls, which I have been picking up an using in relish.  I love the tartness of the not quite ripe fruit – and there is no wastage in my garden.

COOKING WITH JAHNE

I am considering going vegan for Lent (Mar 24th to Feb 10th).  I know it won’t be easy for me as  I enjoy drinking milk and I eat eggs.  But I am sure I will learn a lot in the course of the four weeks.  In the old days of course it was a real fast, but not drinking milk or eating eggs (I don’t mind not eating meat or fish) will be a fast for me.  Lets see how we go.  Anyone going to join me?

GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES  Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….   Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs.  Our programs include training in meditation, asana.

THE YAMAS –
I cannot stress these too much how important these are.
I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER THEM. NOTHING WORKS, NOTHING WORKS, IF THESE ARE NOT IN PLACE IN YOUR LIFE
.
If you come to me to be registered in our organisation (and baby,  it is growing and is going to take some BIG leaps)  and you haven’t done the yamas, guess what, you will have to do a workshop and an exam…..  For me, the philosophy of yoga is the most important.  There is NOTHING more important.
We start there I have never liked the (Christian) “Thou Shalt Not” approach and am trying out a new one.

“Just for today I will not kill thoughts, hopes, aspirations,  confidence.  I will not kill.”
“Just for today I will work on telling the truth”
“Just for today I will work on not stealing”
“Just for today I will work on respecting all people and all things”
“Just for today I will work on not taking more of anything than what I need”.

THE ESSENTIAL TRIANGLE
I haven’t managed the technicalities of putting pictures on the email, but I am sure that you can imagine a triangle.  The base is RESPONSIBILITY, the right hand side is HONESTY, and the Left hand side is AWARENESS and while everyone knows paying attention to this triangle is the path to a good life, a yoga life, not many pay attention to it in their own lives.  A casual glance  will encourage you to believe it is true, but closer inspection will show you how “out of balance” their lives really are.  All talk, no action.   It is the same as paying attention to the yamas.

Often, because I give talks on yoga philosophy people have the chance to chat with me about these essentials.  It is amazing how those people who you can tell right away are not living up to any of the basic philosophies,  will take time talking to me on the importance of the teachings, how wonderful they are, and lecture me from a great height – having done at least half a dozen  hot yoga classes and read  a couple of books!!!!    Before you do that, remember,  it is not about knowing – it is about DOING.  And, if I get the opportunity I am going to confront you with that whether it is uncomfortable for you or not.

A common example – smoking.  If you are a healer and you are smoking, you are not really a healer of yourself or anyone else.  Plus, you are building negative karma all over the place – not helpful!  If you are a healer and are engaging in illicit sexual relations, not telling the truth, stealing even in small ways then your healing is hollow.    If your speech is not respectful of yourself or others, then this also is not a healing way.

To be a healer, to talk with God, you have to be walking what is known in all scriptures as “the narrow path”.  It is not the easy path – however, it is THE ONLY PATH that will lead you to enlightenment.

Remember there is only one reason you chose to return to earth,  and that was to help others.  To be of service to others.  Start today being of service to yourself.. then move outwards from there.

(Next TT Sunday 6th December 2pm to 4pm – we might have a lesson on Karma, Bhakti and Reincarnation.  What do you think?)

“Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things”.

I have been talking God for as long as I can remember.  Sometimes he is funny, sometimes he is not pleased, sometimes he is so on the money I cry.  It always wonderful time for me, and of everything in my life, I would totally miss this if I couldn’t link up. I could give up everything – but I couldn’t give up Talking to God.  Or Talking WITH God.  Sometimes other people come through of course (especially my Mother), but mainly I go there to talk to God.

Some time ago I learned to talk to God via the computer keyboard.  If God isn’t everywhere (even in my computer), then there is no God, and working on that knowing I have been practising this way of talking ever since.  Anyway, them upstairs said to me that I should put these wanderings somewhere that you could read it too. I started out on a Moonfruit site, but the other day in yoga they started talking to me (hard to concentrate on the class at the same time), and said to change to blogspot (would you believe!!!) as I couldn’t cut and paste from the site I was using.  I didn’t argue, but I didn’t really know.  When I got home and tested it they were right.  So I changed to the blogspot site.   Hope that you can tune in to this with us.  I am not sure what They have in mind, and I don’t know why this is important, but I am sure all will become known in time.

Please understand that not everyday will be breathtaking, not everyday will be worth it to you – they
are after all MY chats with God – but I hope that you can get something from the entries.

TALKING TO JAHNE
If you want to talk with me about a problem in your life.  Usually “I am Stuck, please help” is the most asked.  then I am available.  I do charge –  I ask for a donation.  If you do come, and take an hour of my time, please consider that you have taken an hour of my time, and whilst I am considering you, and wanting to help you in asking you to donate what you can afford, please consider my time if nothing else.  If you think I am only worth a couple of dollars then perhaps someone else is better qualified to help you.

Make an appointment, keep the appointment (I have made the time available for you even if you don’t come there is a cost), and don’t just use me to fill in time between other things – I am a busy person.    Don’t get me wrong, I love helping you, I love chatting.  If it is a specific teacher Training assistance you want then that of course is a different matter and Deb or I can help you, no charge of course.  But personal matters (Counselling or a Past Life session) then that is different – I am sure you can see and appreciate that.    I am doing some training with a school where the Principal bills out at $50 per phone conversation no matter what it is about.  We don’t.  I don’t.  Remember the yamas (again).

THE RESTORATIVE COURSE – FREE INFORMATION AFTERNOON SESSION.
On the last Sunday in this month, the 29th November at 2pm to 3.30 I will be holding a FREE information session with regard to the RESTORATIVE COURSES.  I would encourage you to come if you have thought about extending your qualifications, or if you want to have a very specific therapy practice.  Or even if you just want to work in a very part-time way with the elderly and infirm (or people in recovery).  This will be a good session for you.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “JAHNE’S YOGA UNIVERSITY” Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

*THE BHAGAVADGITA (and YOGA PHILOSOPHY) which is like a Certificate or Diploma Level,  RYTA 200/350 which is our “degree course”  and     *RYTA500 the “masters”.

1.   THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)
2.    RYTA200 –  THE BASIC YOGA COURSE
3.    RYTA350 – COURSE ACCREDITED BY YOGA AUSTRALIA
4.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP
5.    RESTORATIVE YOGA (Level 1) and RESTORATIVE YOGA  THERAPY TRAINING (Level 2)
Two levels.   CPE (pending) and Diploma level – includes “Brain Yoga”… A professional level course.

The RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY COURSE (Level 2), has morphed into a professional stand-alone course for people who want to specialise in Restorative Yoga Therapy.  It won’t be easy, and attracts the same conditions and provisions as the Professional Yoga Teacher Training course.  Everyone who is now on the course is doing the Level 1.  If you are interested in making Restorative Yoga Therapy your primary modality, then please let me know.  It is such a worthwhile course, and few are doing it to this level.

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

THE GITAJAIA YOGA FOUNDATION: Every week I say it is coming, and it is.  Rather than do “bits” we are re-energising our whole organisation.  So, be patient.  It is coming.   On the way we are rebadging the whole organisation – new web page banners, new look….

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..
REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE HAVE BEEN UNCOUPLED.  YOU CAN BUY THEM SEPARATELY.  A DEARER OPTION, BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT.  WE AIM TO PLEASE.

GARDENING WITH BENEFITS I had a gardening afternoon with John on Sunday.  We cut back the Dutch Box.  I remember when I planted little 6 inch cuttings, now it is a major feature.  I have to say that you just must watch men when they have trimmers in their hands.  The job he did on sections of the box were not artistic, a bit harsh (unsympathetic as Stephen Ryan would say), but it will grow, and I can keep it in check.  It had just got a bit out of hand.

Also did a major prune of the Southern Wormwood.  I use this for making liqueurs, it is a primary ingredient in absinthe (the “green fairy”!).  I make vermouth and it is rather wonderful.   Maybe you could try it for Christmas.  It is just an aperitif, so a little old fashioned sherry glass is perfect and just sip, this is not a “shot”..

VERMOUTH – The Recipe..
I don’t really measure the herbs precisely for myself, but have given what I think is right here.

This is a gentle, herby white Vermouth, it is not for quaffing.  Just sip before a meal to prepare your stomach for what is to come.  There is red vermouth available in the shops, but white is traditional.

You will need a white wine.  Catarratto, Clairette blanche, Piquepoul or Trebbiano.  Anything with a low alcohol content.  If you do it with these wines you will need to add a little vodka to bring it up to 14/16 proof and also for the preservative qualities of the vodka.

The base: 1 litre of wine, 200 ml vodka, 200 grams of caster sugar, a little water.

The herbs (I use fresh, but you could use dried, just cut back a bit on the quantity): three star anise and a handful  5 grams approx of artemesia vulgaris leaves, 15 gm of bay leaves, 15gm of dried orange peel, 5g rosemary, 15g sage, 5g vanilla pods, 2g yarrow, a couple of cloves, one cinnamon stick and 5g of black peppercorns, and a star anise in the bottle at the end.

The Way: (actually –  my way).
1.  Put the herbs into a jar with the wine and leave to macerate for about a week.  Give it a shake every day. The artemesia should dominate.
2.  After a week filter/strain the wine herb mix over a jug in a fine jelly or muslin bag.
3.  While this is straining  make the syrup.  Heat the sugar (preferably castor) and 4tbs water over a high heat.  Swirl the caramelly syrup around to get a deeper colour and complex taste BUT DON’T BURN IT.  If you do, toss it out and start again.  Don’t take it as far as toffee or caramel.  This is a syrup.
4.  Add 125ml wine to the syrup in the pot, turn the heat right down, and combine until the sugar is totally dissolved into the wine.  Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
5.  Bring the strained herb liquid and the sugar liquid together add the vodka to the cooled mix, seal the jar and leave it in a cool dark place for about 10 days..
6.  After 10 days, stir gently, filter the liquid again (a coffee filter paper is good for this) bottle, add a star anise and store in the refrigerator.   Enjoy.

As your wine is maturing, start thinking about the wonderful things you can use it for.  Over icecream, added to cream, as an aperitif before dinner… or you can use it during cooking with roasts and braises…

PS Dry Vermouth is the French variation of this drink in which the wine is left in the open air for a few days as part of the maturation process.

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references.  As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.
