Dear Yogis,

WEDNESDAY MENU
Zoom yoga 12.30 today.  Studio yoga 5.30 today (one vacancy –  please contact me if you would like to join us yogafirst2@bigpond.com).

Although we have a foot in the zoom schedule and a foot in the studio schedule, neither of these are less valuable than they were a month ago.  In fact they are more valuable as we move into a new normal.  This is the time to set regimes in place – or continue with the schedule you set up during The Covid Pause.  As yogis,  the advantage that we have in life is that we are “reflective”.  We think about the things that other people may think are habit.

Some students tell me that they haven’t got time for yoga things or meditation, but on looking back into their time of lock down they had lots on their to-do list but did none of it (or hardly any).  Now is the time to change that.  Last night in our sutra class we re-visited the concept  of “THE BOOK OF SIXES”  (stopping at least twice a day to review and write into our little notebooks about how we are dealing with the blockages in our life, emotional, financial, physical – whatever).  We cover that briefly in our teacher training, but it should take up a whole class and various reminders given – it is so important if you really do want to control what is happening in your life.  It doesn’t mean that everything in your life will suddenly look sunny, but it does mean that you will be calm about what is happening, and know that you have handled it the best way you can, with as few karmic repercussions as possible in this moment.

THEN once you have mastered this, you could try “A GARDEN CIRCLE”.  We could have achieved this more easily in covid lockdown, but we can do it now.  It involves taking ONE REGULAR DAY OFF and using that day to contemplate where you are and where you are going.    A day of total quiet, (the same day every week or month)  away from TV, BOOKS, FRIENDS DROPPING IN or THE PHONE and TECHNOLOGY OF ANY KIND.  Just you and the garden or studio or where-ever.

To achieve this you will have to schedule it – it must be regular.  I must say that during covid lock down, my Thursdays (I have Thursdays off every week and have done this for many years) disappeared, and I will have to work at re-instating it. I call it a Garden Circle because I spend an extended time in the garden when I can on these days – hard, physical gardening.   If you can’t manage a weekly time then a monthly day of contemplation would be good.  This is not a holiday, it is a serious attempt to know yourself better, and re-connect with  the spiritual in your life.  We are addicted to what we do, and the way we do it.  Every addiction takes work to deal with.

The schedule for my day goes something like this.  An hour of complete silence alternated with an hour of spiritual study, an hour of quiet walking or other exercise and an hour in the middle of the day for a light meal eaten mindfully.  All this interspersed with catching up with the entries in your Book of Sixes which you may be able to do every two hours as the Tibetans do.   The day goes very quickly if you schedule it – which in itself is a good discipline.  It is important that after this day you trust the decisions, ideas and resolutions which come to you whilst you are on this “PAUSE”.

At some time during the day make a conscious decision to HELP someone. There is nothing that will give you more power in your personal and business life.  The point of this day is to get away from concentrating on ourselves.  Don’t let your friends or family hijack this time.  They think you are just taking a day off.

At the end of the day, review your Book of Sixes.  Try not to think about what you have to do the next day.  Let the silence and the peace you have experienced remain with you during your sleeping hours so you wake up refreshed, creative and inspired to start your week (until your next Garden Circle).

I know that when you get back to the frantic speed of your life and the catch up after your day away, you may not trust the insights you received, and perhaps label them as “unrealistic”. Don’t you believe it!  This is just your monkey mind trying to reassert itself.  To change will require a little risk and a whole lot of courage.  I have to say that the few days before your day off, do try to resolve any easy issues, be especially nice to those around you, get into a good position in the every-day and you will start your PAUSE with the right imprints in your mind.  You won’t have to deal with immediate troubles…

It is important that your family and friends understand that this is not just an opportunity to laze and bunk-off.  This is an important day which will help you to become a better worker, get more done, and be generally easier to get along with (if this is an issue for you).  It is not a luxury.  You may have to get your family alongside and get their permission for this day – this is important too.  It may take some time before they understand that this is to get you out of a rut and a mind set.  If you achieve this, then they will be the winners too.

We yogis are all in the business of “MENTAL GARDENING”.

NAMASTE.  JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

What an amazing weekend.  The weather was all over the place, hot, wet, windstorms, rainstorms… and my ceiling didn’t fall in so all is well with the world.

I took the opportunity of wild weather to work on my new HUGE art piece – inspired by my students, I am making a collage.  I have gone from making artworks 40cm x 40cm to this latest piece 180cm x180cm (too big to get into the car!).  This work is inspired by my garden.

You would think that something about gardens would be easy to do, but no it is not.  It takes hours just to cut the pieces out, then there is the putting it all together, getting the placement right.  I am not yet up to putting glue to the page, and even this far it is hugely tiring.  Glueing down is quite a way off I think.

If you have some of those English Gardening books (“Gardens Illustrated”) and don’t need them, and are looking for a home for them rather than the rubbish bin, please leave some on my back porch if you live close by. Believe it or not,  I think I am going to run out of “flowers” to cutout.

In between those times when I am working on it,  I have got two big charts on top because having the cat deciding to look closely and perhaps play with the pieces would be “difficult” to say the least.  Or the effects of leaving a door or window open without thinking about the collage  before I have glued pieces down would be a disaster!  I am hoping to hang it for the first time on Christmas Day so those people who drop in to have a champers and mince pie with me will be able to see it.  Whatever happens I will make it available to view, even unfinished.  If you want to see it before then, you are welcome to make an appointment…  I am going to do a REALLY BIG COLLAGE after I have practised on this one!  I will need more magazines please.

OUR SUTRA CLASSES.

On Tuesday (7.30pm) we are taking a small detour in our Sutra classes.  We have been working through the sutra concepts rather than go through verse by verse (which has taken us quite a long time), and this Tuesday we are going to use what we have learned to change the way we look at our lives, and the way we work with Karma.  We are moving from theory to the practical….

Although we say we understand how karma works, do you know how we can we work with it to change your daily results?   We don’t understand it when we see the rich and powerful (and greedy), get more rich, powerful and greedy , and wonder how this fits with our ideas of karma.  The bible asks “Why the rich prosper”, and we ponder when we see around us those who work hard to do the right thing and often don’t have an easy (or easier) run at life.

There are a few basic principles.  You know them, but do you think about them or use them?
1. Causes come before result
2. Causes are smaller than their results
3. Growing things takes time
4. It helps to have a way to track your days, and your results.

I have been speaking to you and encouraging you to have a “Book of Sixes” – which is the Tibetan way to be accountable to yourself and others, and the beginnings of how you can SEE what is happening in your life.  Karma then becomes a tool you can work with.  Once you put this method into action, you can study the imprints and how they can create what you are trying to achieve in your life.  It is not about “guilt”, in fact there is no Sanskrit equivalent.

If you want to take a closer look at these concepts – and what I like to call MENTAL GARDENING – come for the journey on Tuesday at 7.30pm.  Details?   Go to the home page at www.yogabeautiful.com.au and follow the directions.  Decide which classes you want to do with us, and pay with the “PAY VIA PAYPAL”  button (yes, it takes credit cards).  They will send me your receipt immediately and I will send you a ZOOM ID.

NAMASTE.  JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

An amazing day (Thursday).  Have to get this newsletter done on my day off because I won’t get a chance tomorrow – my monthly acupuncture appointment happens…early.

Our ZOOM study is progressing well.  The study of the sutras is coming to an end.. however, then we are going to learn (from the Tibetan point of view) how to apply these sutras in our every day lives to help us understand our daily frustrations and successes, and how to make our lives reflect the wonderful yogis that we are. Success – abundance! can be yours.  The scriptures will show us how – nothing is accidental.

It is not too late to join us.  If you are finding that no matter what you do, the abundance that you would like (let’s be honest here)is just not happening, know that there is a path out of this hole you have dug for yourself.  We are going to study the path, take the steps and we are going to learn how to apply it in our own lives to expand our happiness in all directions.

The Dalai Lama says that happiness/kindness is his religion.  I know that he means this LITERALLY, and I am going to show you how you can do this too – it is not a secret.  Join us. Tuesdays at 7.30 to 9pm.  You will get great value out of this.

STUDIO YOGA IS HAPPENING and Massage with me is back on.  I am going to shortly start RESTORATIVE ENERGY BLOK THERAPY that links with both the PPT massage and my Restorative yoga classes.  If you have abdominal adhesions, would like a facelift (yes), have hearing difficulties, can’t breathe deeply (a problem in meditation), … all of these can be addressed by using my amazing techniques with tools you already have.

I  work with these problems when no-one else wants to and I get amazing results.   To experience this for yourself, first get a (PPT)massage which allows us to identify the blockages, then come to Restorative Energy-Blok therapy to work on them.  If you are a teacher and want to study this method with me – let me know.

CHRISTMAS BREAK:  I have decided that I am going to be closed for a couple of weeks (and do art).  Last yoga class –  5.30 Wednesday 23rd December.  First class of the new year 11th January.  However, if you would like a massage or study with me in that two weeks, please let me know.  I am going nowhere.  I will be here for you.  If you want to keep going with the Sutra and the Gita classes without break, let me know – it can be done.

CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON:  We had our last YogaLunch in February!!!  Our usual luncheon venue The Mt.Macedon Hotel is inundated with emails and short staffed, but I am assured they will get back to us with a confirmation of our booking (12.30 on Friday, December the 11th).  This gives us reasonable time to organise, and I will let you know how we go.  ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN.  Please let me know if you want to come so that I can keep you informed..  We will have the lunch, we will have it this time frame, and we will have it somewhere – we have choices.  The Mac is usually quiet at that time of the day, we have great service, and we can relax – that is why we keep going there..

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE:  As usual, I will have an open house from 11.30 to 4 (ish) on Christmas day.  If you are around, do plan to drop in for a champers and some nibbles… There is always lots to share.  Don’t be lonely.  For the address, email me: yogafirst2@bigpond.com

I almost forgot.  I have some beautiful Organic Turkey Tail powder.  It smells luscious and it is amazing how a quarter of a teaspoon (the recommended dose) can alter your morning drink or yoghurt.  It is a mushroom which tastes “chocolatey”, enhances the effect of anything else you might be taking, reduces the toxic effects of chemo I am told, and boosts the immune system. Perfect during these covid times. I am also reliably informed it can encourage beautiful dreams.  Cost $35 for 25grams (price includes postage in Australia).   You can use the PAY VIA PAYPAL button on the home page of www.yogabeautiful.com.au the same as always.  Don’t forget to add your name and address to the docket when you make the payment.  I will send the powder when I receive the receipt – PayPal is FAST, but the post can be slow.

NAMASTE – JAHNE
