GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES

Yoga is an ancient philosophy and practice of health and well-being. Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in our certification programs and our classes.   We don’t teach pilates, or quick courses.  We teach YOGA the way it was intended to be taught – a system of healing with an emphasis on the mind. Our Yoga teaching focusses on the foundations, addressing every aspect of the human system, including the body, the mind, the emotions, breathing patterns, relationships etc. respecting the individuality of each person and situation.

ANOTHER IYENGAR STORY.

There are many tales about Iyengar – he lived long enough to generate them, especially being in the public eye for most of his adult life.

This story is related by one of his Ganddaughters.  She had been taught by Iyengar and wanted to be a teacher,  and felt that she had to do and be  better to be one.  A demonstration of fitness was called for.  How to get her gandfather’s approval was top of mind when she decided to do a 20 minute head stand!  She said that the first 5 minutes were OK, but then as this lurched into 7 and then 10 minutes she itched in places she didn’t know she had, and felt muscles she didn’t know she had.  When the clock went into 15 minutes she was trembling, and just ticking off the seconds until the end of this practice, the 20 minute mark.

Her grandfather came in when she had come down out of the pose and was resting.  He asked what she had done, she replied “a headstand for twenty minutes”. He asked again “what have you done?”, she answered again “A headstand for 20 minutes”.  “Yes”,  he said, “but what have you done?”, to which she replied (again), “I have just done a headstand for 20 minutes>”  To which Iyengar replied “Rubbish, what a waste of time!”

Yoga is not just about the body, it is about The mind.  As Patanjali says “the mind of the yogi is crucial”.   Although we are not told, I am sure that Iyengar in the example above wanted to know what the MIND was doing, not what the body was doing.  He could see the body.

THE GITAJAIA YOGA FOUNDATION.

We need Members – .  Imagine what we could do if you all helped.  If everyone helped, then we would have money in the fund which may one day be used to support one of your students.   To become a member and receive a beautiful silk angel,  please go to www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

MASSAGE QUALIFICATIONS..

I don’t know if I am the only one here, BUT, have you recently tried to update your massage certification?  It is hard.  I takes more time to accredit than it did to get into massage school in the first place…..and isn’t nearly as exciting.    I think all these hurdles are fantastic, IF you want to become a REMEDIAL massage or myotherapy or use any of the other techniques which are medically based and work within a clinical setting, but if you are a relaxation massage therapist, or if like me you have been doing massage most of your life and the places you learned are for the most part long gone..  then in terms of recognition well, its bye bye baby.  Maybe the clinical setting is not where you want to be.

Our insurance company is fantastic, and if you have done a PPT massage course (or relaxation) they will insure you.  I can recognise when a person has the qualifications for massage or not and would be most interested to know if you massage therapist/yogis out there  would be interested in me adding a massage arm to our present registration?  I haven’t thought it through – but if enough of you get back to me I will.

ATTENTION EVERYONE – “AYI–FIVE ELEMENT YOGA” Teacher Training Opportunity.

The Australasian Yoga Institute has set the standard in Yoga Distance Education and Yoga Registration and Certification for more than 40 years.   Our mission is to teach as many yoga teachers as we can Australia-wide, world-wide as economically as possible, as safely as possible so they can go on and teach others safely, and introduce them to the real yoga.   No short-cuts, no cut corners, and not just asanas, no matter the length of the course.

We were in the vanguard of yoga teachers and teaching – there were no teacher training establishments certainly no distance classes, except for us when we initiated Yoga Teacher Training by Home Study, eventually consolidating our company in 1976.   We didn’t start thinking “this would be a good business” and developing a curriculum.  We started because we received requests from across Australia, from remote communities.  People everywhere wanted to learn yoga and teach yoga and had nowhere to go, so, urged on by our students we researched what was happening around the world, and went from there – by student request, initiating something NEW and DIFFERENT –   a teacher training program which could deal with the distances involved in yoga teacher training in Australia, offering students in remote reaches of Australia and now the world the possibility of achieving their dream of becoming Professional Yoga Teachers with all the qualifications and protections offered internationally.

With a dramatic increase in our student body, graduated Professional Yoga Teachers, the Institute is able to introduce you to exciting new training opportunities.

It seems to us, with Yoga studios popping up in every town and village, that Yoga Teaching is moving back into the home, being taught to friendly and small home based groups.   “AYI-5 ELEMENT YOGA” is the perfect vehicle to expand yoga in this way.  It short, simple and is available to be taught across the community without the need for lengthy training.   This new course is a simple yoga based on The Five Tibetans and Ayurveda  that can be designed and presented in homes and at small schools and old age care homes.   It is important to note that last year in America alone 20 million people signed up for a yoga course.  As every country in the world is experiencing this growth, teachers are in high demand at all levels.  They are most needed in the wider community who to this point would not have considered that they could do yoga.

The entire SHORT course will cost $645 .    I think it would take about three months part time by distance education, but the time and pace is up to you.  It may be a short course, but it is not short on safety and it is comprehensive.  I don’t teach “tick this box” kind of courses.

“AYI-5 ELEMENT YOGA” makes a yoga regime and lifestyle exercise plan,  achievable at any age.   If you would like to add this to your teacher training skills, or start your teaching life with this course, please register your interest with me personally before it is launched on the world.  Be the first with the best.  Email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com.  It will be available on Etsy, or time payment through our Institute.

TEACHER TRAINING – PAY BY THE MONTH

For those of you struggling to move forward because of the money… and we all have those troubles from time to time – we are trialling a new way of paying for the course.  MONTH BY MONTH.  You sign up as usual, but pay by the month (no deposit required if you are just signing up).  You pay for the month, we send the modules, I assess them and send them back and we repeat this process until the end of the course until you finish.   If you are already on the course, and  have got into a hard place – haven’t sent a module for a long time, and would like to swap to this program, then let us know…  We will look at your file, assess it, and give you some options.  The work is the same, and there are no shortcuts, but it may help with affordability.     Email me. yogafirst2@bigpond.com.

KNITS TO TIBET – PLEASE HELP US. We need babies blankets.  80cm x 100cms.  GET KNITTING.

After the earthquake we can’t build a house, we can’t even provide hot water and water bottles, but we can knit warm blankets.  Nothing fancy, just plain knitting is just fine – an opportunity to use up odds and ends of wool .  What is stopping you?  Get knitting today.    And   when you have a blanket or two send them to The Australasian Yoga Institute, PO box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic.  3441.  A cheaper postage alternative Australia wide may be offered by your newsagent (our does).  Check in and see if your newsagent has this facility.

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley

This is one of my major sources and fits beautifully with the course we have put together.   BUY ALL THREE.  You will never regret it.   They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references.  Don’t hold back it will be false economy.   As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for www.yogabeautiful.com.au

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE ALWAYS NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!

We are desperate for some copies.  If you are done with yours, don’t just leave it on the shelf……We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.   yogafirst2@bigpond.com   We get so many folk get back to us saying how wonderful this book is.  There is a later edition available with lots of black and white photos in it, but my favourite is the first edition which was all colour.  If you can find one, keep it close by – it is a wonderful resource.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “AYI YOGA UNIVERSITY”

I am considering an Hon. Doc. Qualification within our yoga Institute.  If you are interested in taking your qualification up a notch and would consider this, please let me know.  You would have had to graduated as a registered teacher, and done some years of teaching.  Certainly you need a good knowledge of philosophy.  Let me know if this is for you.

All our classes are available via distance education and you can start any time..  Thank you to those students who are moving from their 200 to another, higher course.  Once you have got into the habit of learning, then it is easy to keep going….   Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

1.    THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)

2.    RYTA200/YA350 –  THE BASIC YOGA COURSE – Accredited with Yoga Australia

3.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP    which you can take in a number of ways.  You must start with 200 hours first.

4. PPT Massage technique.  A stand-alone class, fully insurable.

5. AYI 5 ELEMENT YOGA.  Based on The 5 Tibetans and 5 Elements of Ayurveda.   A short (complete) teacher training course, for a short yoga program.

6. RESTORATIVE YOGA TEACHER TRAINING – ON–LINE

TEACH YOURSELF BOOKS…

Hop on to our web site to find our books, you will enjoy them – YAMAS, CHAKRAS, AND YIN YOGA….., they will add to your skills, and you can use them as a basis for workshops… www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

If you have your own studio, or teach (or just want to know more)  or want to do workshops, but don’t feel confident that you know enough –  then use these books as the foundation.  Just say that everyone in the class buys a book, comes to the workshop.  You do a class, embellish it with things you like to do, add diet, meditation…  you could easily have a one day or two day work shop based on one of these books.  Should be good, and a whole lot easier than starting from scratch.  Plus, your students can decide to get a certificate at the end from  me if they want that.  It all helps.

Lee said…..“I felt like the manual gave me confidence to be able to mimic the class and gave me a clearer understanding of the principals of Yin Yoga. I really enjoyed it Jahne and i got something out of it which i will continue to do so as well. So as you said in the manual “i have written this book for you so i hope it will be useful” – and it is, so thank you very much Jahne!”

THE SHOP and ETSY   www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

ALL OUR IN-HOUSE DVD’S AND CD’S ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS SITE.  Please remember that they are not flashy high cost productions.  They are made by Deb, Nic and me to answer your various questions.  They are useful in your course.

“YIN YOGA”, “FIVE TIBETANS”,  “THE YAMAS”,   “THE UN-MEDITATION COURSE”

YOGA SWINGS: Colours – *blue and grey, grey and black or pink and orange”,

“THE REVELATION TAROT”, “HOW-TO STUDY YOGA BY DISTANCE EDUCATION”,

“THE CHAKRAS – A COLOURING-IN BOOK and a REFERENCE BOOKLET”

“CHAKRA BOOKLET”, “ETERNITY THE PRAYER”, “THE PENDULUM BOARD AND COURSE”.

TEACH YOURSELF BOOKS – YIN-YOGA, RESTORATIVE YOGA, YIN4KIDS , PREGNANCY YOGA including AQUA YOGA.  And  NUTRITION FOR A SMALL PLANET – THE YOGA OF FOOD.

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au

If you want yoga insurance with us the cost is now $220 pa. which also covers you for our PPT massage.    Because we have been with Parmia who are now owned by AJGallaghers (who also own OAMPS) since they started, it means we get a “hot desk” answered by a real person, in Queensland not India,  who knows who you are.  We also can get the student insurance, which is a very special advantage.  With regards to the forms – we are updating and simplifying.  It won’t be done in a flash – so thank you in advance for your patience.  Our insurance company is underwritten by Lloyds of London, and has recently acquired OAMPS (I am sure you have seen this about).  We have the advantage, we have a niche within that business, and are cared for, which is excellent when you have questions, and want service.

You will get reminders for all the admin details of your course including registration and insurance….  So if you have lagged behind in the paper efficiency department, get that paperwork up to date and then we will all be happy.

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so):

Signing up for any course – our course included, is like buying a car.  You can’t buy it, take it for one run, leave it in the garage and a year later go back to the dealer and ask for your money back.  It doesn’t work like that.  If you are on the course, you are on the course until you write and let us know that you are not.  If twelve months and more have elapsed with no contact in spite of all our newsletters, etc…. then you have (as far as we are concerned) been on the course for 12 months, even if you have done NOTHING in that time.

By the way.  If you are doing the modules, and you have not properly signed up, then you are not properly on the course.  So please check.  It would be dreadful if you got to the end, wanted to rush to graduation, insurance and teaching, and we found you had not completed the initial paperwork and you had to get that done…   please check.  If we check (and we are gradually doing this)  and ask you to correct this, please do it QUICKLY – it  is not optional.

If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only and ONLY if you have paid for THE STUDIO TRAINING.  Not the DISTANCE training.  Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course, and everyone did that!  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of yoga training.   Your STUDIO training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

TAKE CLASSES WITH JAHNE ANYWHERE, ANY TIME.

VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.

NEW TEACHERS…BEFORE YOU START THE COURSE PROPERLY LOOK THROUGH THE VIDEOS.  I can’t stress this enough.   Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.   NOTE WELL:  they are not in order.  They do not match up with the modules and they were not designed to do that.  You are yogis doing a course.  You do not need the trainer wheels.    Get a feeling for how they are set up, what’s where.  It will save you heaps of time later on.  There are stick figures, respiration, philosophy, how to teach….even the garden is there.  You will love them, but you have to get to know them – it’s not just about asanas.  My various hair incarnations alone will keep you interested!

FIONA, and JACKEY and ME…. THE OFFICE.

FIONA:  Is doing the everyday office work.  She is the new Debbie, but it will take her time to get up to speed.    JACKEY is our bookkeeper.  For the next few weeks she will be working from 9am to 12 noon on Wednesdays.  If you want to know anything about accounts, ring at this time.  You can ask me questions any other time, but I may not be able to give you a definitive answer.

ME: During the week, mostly you will be dealing with me.  I am having a lovely time getting close to all my students after years of leaving you all in Debbie’s hands.  Right at this moment, if you have a question about your course (until Fiona gets up to speed), truly, I am the only one absolutely qualified to answer you.  If I don’t answer right away, be patient and call back.  Please email in the first instance at the number below – only the number below  and set up a time when we won’t be disturbed, and will be in a place where phone connections are possible.  My email   yogafirst2@bigpond.com  If you want to know anything about your course..if you have problems, concerns,  then email me.  As I have said.  Be patient.  We are working hard to be the best we can be.

I have asked before DO NOT SEND MODULES TO MY HOME ADDRESS.    For those of you who have missed seeing my postal address.  It is PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. 3441.  Australia.

THURSDAYS –  are my ONLY DAY OFF.  I would really appreciate it if you left your emails, and telephone calls until another day.    I know that in this “information age”  you need to know things right this minute…  please postpone your request, and don’t get annoyed if I don’t pick  up the phone on Thursdays.  Make your call on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays so I do get a rest.  Also, Read the yoga schedule above.  If you call whilst I am in class I am not going to pick up the phone – ditto if I am in the middle of a consult – that is why I plead with you to email me.  Then I can reply as soon as I am free, and those who try it will know I do, unless I have to think about and research what you have asked then it might take a little time.  email: yogafirst2@bigpond.com  or  0354 273 518  or  0402 088 170.   Thank you!

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

I move with the infinite in nature’s power.  I hold the fire of the soul.  I hold the life and healing”. (Rig Veda)

Dear Lord – thank you for providing me with everything I need, when I need it, and no more.

Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things.

THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..

Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….

Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga.  We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs.  Our programs include training in meditation, asana.

PRECIOUS WORDS JUST FOR YOU – THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR DAY, YOUR LIFE.

1. THIS TOO SHALL PASS (The Buddha).

2. I CAN AND I WILL – THERE IS NO TRY (Yoda – Star Wars)

3. WORK WITH YOUR BREATH – IT IS YOUR ANCHOR (Ramacharaka – The Science of Breath))

4. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU SEEM,  BETTER THAN YOU BELIEVE, AND SMARTER THAN YOU THINK. (Napoleon Hill)

5. THE ONLY PERSON YOU SHOULD TRY AND BE BETTER THAN IS THE PERSON YOU WERE YESTERDAY (Yeah Dave)

ATTENTION:   EMAIL NUMBER – For anything, anything at all please email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com.  If you do not your emails may get lost,  as I am gradually going to get rid of the other email numbers….

THE FOUNDATION – AN INSURANCE OPPORTUNITY FOR US ALL.

I have approached our insurance company, and they have said that if we double the number of our insurance applications (more people paying for their insurance through us) they will donate a percentage of each payment to our foundation.  The more people we get signed up, the more they will donate.  It is simple.  To encourage you in this.

Everyone who places a new insurance with us, or re-registers from the 17th August to the 17th September will receive a template pack (5xA4’s)  of the  Five Tibetans.  Please email your request for insurance to me personally atyogafirst2@bigpond.com.  If you don’t use this email, then I cannot guarantee we will get it. (this applies to ANY email you send – send them to me).

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!

You must love this book, no-one has yet decided to part with it.   Please, please pass it on…

For those starting out this book is hard to get.  Even second hand.  I wondered if any of you out there had finished with their book and would like to sell it back to us, WE WOULD LOVE TO BUY IT OFF YOU.  We can get it secondhand from time to time for $25 to $30.  We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and I will call you to organise. yogafirst2@bigpond.com

You might be able to still get the book second hand from..

YOUR MODULES
Please understand that you are not the only person on the course.  I  mark each module, from every student and I do it myself.  That’s a lot of writing from and to a lot of students – and assures the personal touch that you signed up with us to achieve.  PLEASE HELP ME by numbering each page you send me,  and putting them in order.  Make sure all the pages are there, no drawings missing.  If you are a “12 page plus drawings” type of student, then post them.  It is so much easier….

If you email, the same applies.  SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION:  One of the students went mad at me recently because I sent work back unmarked.  WHY?  The work was sent to me un-numbered, un-sorted, and just pages of text. There was hardly a comma or a full stop.  The spelling when “iffy” I can mostly work out, but a pages out of order and then with no punctuation is totally impossible.

PHOTO and scans – remember that if you have a fuzzy drawing and you photograph it, scan and email it, and then  I print it – it is going to be almost unrecognisable!  If in doubt, or multiples – lots of pages – post it.

*THE BHAGAVADGITA (and YOGA PHILOSOPHY) which is like a Certificate or Diploma Level,  RYTA 200 which is our “degree course”  and     *RYTA500 the “masters”.

1.   THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)

2.    RYTA200 –  THE BASIC YOGA COURSE

3.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP

4.     RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY TRAINING (WE WILL BE ADDING PRE AND POST-NATAL RESTORATIVE YOGA in our small teach yourself booklets – soon ).

THIS REALLY IS OUR UNIVERSITY of YOGA.  Having just been awarded an HonDoc in Spiritual Development I know what this qualification can mean.  It was a long time before I would accept the recommendation from my seminary, but once done, I feel that I have achieved something very special and invite you to do the same;  therefore I have decided to add this qualification to our program.   I invite those of you who would like to try for the highest accolade from our Institute to apply to be accepted in this our HonDRYoga  stream.  How it will be actually put together is still in the planning stages.

This Hon.Doc. in Yogic Practice and Philosophy, with an emphasis on Restorative Yoga,  is aimed at only the very best teachers.  They will achieve HonDRYoga on graduation from this final course.  This will not be easy.  There will be home study modules (which will include drawing by hand,  identifiable and reproducible stick figures – the yoga shorthand), plus a requirement for  3 x 30 minute DVD’s of the student demonstrating Pranayama,  Restorative and a yoga form of their choice, that indicates clearly their competence to teach Restorative Yoga at the highest level.  Keep it in mind when completing your current training – do your very best.  It will count if you decide to go forward.

Obviously the applicant for this qualification cannot start at zero – there needs to be an extensive  yoga background and teacher training before they can be considered.  At least the 200 or 350 hour teacher training level and extensive actual teaching experience.  They will also need 3 letters of recommendation from their students.

It goes without saying that my marking of their modules will be strict, and they should be prepared for this.  I say again, it will not be easy.     If you are interested – please contact me direct and we will go from there.      Email:yogafirst2@bigpond.com

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au

We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive….. Insurance only – $220.  If we get more of you insured, we will be given a rebate to add to our Foundation.  But only if more of you sign up!  Please.

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so):  WE ARE REVIEWING ALL FILES.

For some time it appears, the office staff has been letting you join the course without signing, and sending to us any of the required sign-up documentation –  or it has just happened somehow.

In going through our files in the course of putting everything on a very intricate and extensive computer program,  we are pulling these out and asking you to sign up.  Until you do, you are not really on the course and can’t graduate.  If we contact you in error, please relax, go with the flow.  We are just trying to get everything as good as we can get it.  We are not accusing you of anything, just trying to clear up any issues caused by incomplete files.

We don’t need you to start the course again, or pay again (if you have already paid in full) but we do need you to keep up your payments (or pay those you have missed somehow) and we need you to complete your documentation.  You may have misunderstood our terms.  You get as long as you want to complete the course, BUT, the payments are over 12 or 18 CONSECUTIVE months.

If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only.

Also, just signing up and not sending in any modules means you are not really a trainee yoga teacher, and unless we receive regular communication (even if it isn’t modules), at a certain point we will deem that you have disconnected from us, and we will disconnect from you, BUT NOT WITHOUT FOLLOWING UP ON YOUR PAYMENTS…  YOU SIGNED UP TO PAY MONTHLY REMEMBER!    And, coming to class or doing an occasional module  with no intention of completing the course just to get the cheaper, easier student insurance, and free classes isn’t exactly living the yamas!  Sooner or later we will call your bluff.  We are certainly in the position to notice now.

I have found  if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….

VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.

Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.  I have shown you what I recommend..  All you have to do is download.  I even did a video on ‘The Gita.  Good feedback thus far – thank you.      Please.  Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly.  yogafirst2@bigpond.com

THE YOGA KITCHEN/GARDEN

I have been out in the garden mulching.  The parsley looks fantastic – those plants away from the pesky possums.  I now have two really big raised beds.  It has taken all my effort to fill them up, I am half way, and I imagine that it will be a long term process.  I find that my Thursday are calming down, and I look forward to getting out in the garden now the weather is milder.  Gardening in the wind and rain isn’t particularly appealing to me, although my book keeper would be out in her garden no matter the weather!  The pond shows signs of the frogs and their spawn, getting ready for spring when it will be full of tadpoles.  I have been keeping it clear of algae and watercress (not all of it), and using this on the garden beds, it is a good source of natural nitrogen – there certainly is enough of it.

COOKING:  I have made dozens of batches of peanut butter cookies.  I gave you the simple recipe months ago.  1cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter 1 egg, vanilla ess. And a prickling of salt.  This week I had some left over Philly cheese which I added, as well as chilli, 1tsp ground ginger, 1tsp. Ground cinnamon.  Make into balls then press down into cookie shapes with a wet fork.   Sprinkle with ground salt and cook for 15 minutes F180 for 15 minutes.  Let the cookies cool before you lift them off the cookie sheet.  Enjoy.  They are simple and gorgeous, even without all the extras I add.  You can substitute the sugar, but it may take a few batches until you work out the proportions.  The sugar is really crucial in my recipe.

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley

They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references. As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each.  I thought that this was a good investment.  I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for.  www.yogabeautiful.com.au

JAHNE’S MENTORING SESSIONS ….

Because Jahne has been teaching yoga teachers for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) she is often asked for advice. Asking course questions is free. This does not mean IDLE Yoga questions “just because you want to know” – She could spend her whole day answering those and getting no-where, in spite of the fact you may think your life will end if they are not answered – experience has shown you and me that “this too will pass”.  Jahne is also available for PAST LIFE SESSIONS, AND ERICKSONIAN HYPNOTHERAPY…..

REGARDING THE OFFICE:
Another change. Fiona has gone off to study Ayurveda with Marye at Maiveda Spa in Kyneton.  A marriage made in heaven.    Sonya has taken her place in our office.
TIMES-  If you want to speak to office staff or me, we are available at odd times, but you can book a time suitable to us both.   To Talk Money/Accounts, speak to Jackey on Wednesdays at 9.30 to 2’ish.  Please Ph: 0354 273 518.  I am always available on the email and  am not always at my desk.  Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can.

Please only use the email: yogafirst2@bigpond.com.  If you use any other, you may not get a speedy answer.

THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..

UPDATE RE. DEBBIE

It seems that Debbie will be back temporarily this week.  I know that many of you are just waiting to have a chat..  Please make it short so that everyone can have their turn – and we have a business to run, modules to get out etc.  If there are some of you out there waiting for Debbie to help you in your sign up – now is the time to call.

RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY COURSE

We had a wonderful Restorative course yesterday (Sunday).  Every time I take a class I amazed at how much more I learn, and how deeply we are able to go.  It is amazing…  Every class I learn something new and I am so grateful for the lovely people who come and trust me with their body, their minds and their future…  I cannot tell you what a wonderful therapy this is – I have run out of superlatives.  No course is long enough or good enough to cover the needs of this class and these students.   yogafirst2@bigpond.com

BENEFITS OF RESTORATIVE YOGA
(Here are three – there are many more.  Would like your thoughts)

SOOTHES THE NERVOUS SYSTEM – This for my students is one of the major benefits.  The slower pace and deep breathing triggers the parasympathetic nervous system.  The structure and timing of the class mitigates the effects of the fight-or-flight response that can damage not just your body but also your well being – certainly your peace of mind.

DEEPENS SELF AWARENESS AND INTROSPECTION – The soft, gentle quality of restorative yoga opens the doorway to a deeper understanding of your own body.  It is in a class like this that you can begin to understand the implications of beinga spiritual being having a human experience, deepening your sense of self love and acceptance.

STRENGTHENS DETACHMENT AND ACCEPTANCE – We have all escaped from the no-gain-no-pain philosophies of the gym culture.  In restorative yoga you get the most benefit from relaxing, not forcing yourself into a pose.  By working this way you are moving towards a fuller acceptance of your body and its limitations.  Acceptance and detachment naturally emerge.

YIN YOGA SHORT COURSE

When I started yoga there was “do or don’t do” as Yoda said.  There was only one yoga, and it encompassed all modalities.  We modified for pregnancy, old age, youth.  Now there are many courses, and many specialities.  At the moment YIN is the flavour of the month.  You can of course spend thousands of dollars learning how to do it, or you can read, watch DVDs and experiment until you find a yin style of your own.

To assist you in your search I am loading this week a short course you can do at home to start you on your journey.  This little course is complete with descriptions, class plan,  background, embellishments – everything you will need to develop a class of your own.  The cost will be $45 for the booklet, and if you want a certificate you can do the exam attached to the booklet and if you pass, I will send you a certificate.  There is a charge, however, it will save you having to do a long and expensive course which, if you have already qualified and graduated as a yoga teacher (or are on the way) is probably over-kill don’t you think? And you will have all the tools you need to begin your own yoga class for under $200.

So if you are interested, either leave me your name yogafirst2@bigpond.com and I will notify you when I put it up, or keep checking www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley

This is one of my major sources of course and can be a source for you too.

Paul Grilley has put out an on-line course which you might like to access – it is about the anatomy of a headstand. It is not on a DVD  – which is unfortunate, but I am hoping that at some stage it will be made available on disc.

We are getting in a new DVD about the HISTORY and fundamentals of the philosophy of yoga.  It has been out for about 18 months, but as you know, when they first come on the market they are more expensive.  We are now able to negotiate for a bulk deal, thus saving up front, and saving postage.

Lots of fabulous teachers are interviewed.  It is worthwhile  and I will let you know when we have it.

  THE BLOG AND FACEBOOK

For anything yoga –  blog,  www.ministryofyoga.blogspot.com.

I don’t update every day.  But I do go on from time to time.  Latest entry.  YIN YOGA

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – WE START SHREDDING EITHER THIS WEEK OR NEXT WEEK – DO YOU WANT YOUR FILES RETURNED?

When Deb comes back we are going to bring all the files out of archive (It will be her first job on her return) – they are getting too cumbersome.  Files that are 5 years old or older.  We will keep your passport and the covering application papers you sent when you first applied, and anything else I think is relevant.  The rest WE WILL SHRED and use it for guinea pig bedding.  It won’t be wasted.   However, should you want your file, please let us know and we will send it to you.  We will charge you the postage and it will be an expensive post for most of you, especially when you should have everything that we have.

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK.  PLEASE…..WE ALWAYS NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!

We will buy yours off you for $25 plus whatever is the postage cost.  Email us if you would like to sell yours, and Deb will call you to organise.  yogafirst2@bigpond.com

We get so many folk get back to us saying how wonderful this book is.  There is a later edition available with lots of black and white photos in it, but my favourite is the first edition which was all colour.  If you can find one, keep it close by – it is a wonderful resource.   YOGA CLASSES
KEEP IN MIND.  THIS IS A “9” YEAR AND WE CAN SEE CHANGES IN THE WIND.  GO WITH THE FLOW…..

The Bentinck – THE HOME OF THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE
Cost:  $10 per person per class (or $100 a 12 class pass:  non–transferable).
$15 mum plus little yoga bub. $25 per family (mum, dad and two primary school children.
Young adults $10 each).

ABOUT THE CLASSES:  I have gently turned my attention to THE RESTORATIVE YOGA sessions.  Of course I still teaches a full workload at Innisfree.   However,  my senior teachers have been gradually taking over my general/public Hatha Yoga classes.  They are loving it – and I believe you are loving the changes too.

PLEASE be patient.  Our student teachers need to learn, and they are so anxious to give you the best possible experience.  They are only babies, I have been teaching for 50 years!!!

WHERE: “The Bentinck” is on the corner of the Romsey Road and the High Street in Woodend.  Enter from  the start of the Romsey Road only – the sign is big and clear .

PARKING:  If both sides of the car park are full when you arrive, please park over the road – you just have to walk across Romsey road to yoga, and that’s not such a hard thing.  Don’t park anywhere else.  As you enter the gate, park only to right or to the left – not straight ahead. That also is staff parking.

*I have cancelled the Spiritual Yoga Class until I get requests to continue.  With Deb not well and change in the air…, there is much to do, and as only I can at present take this class –  it is suspended until further notice.    ALEX who takes the Yin-Yoga is leaving us on the 8th April to go home to the USA, and KALMA who is expecting a baby will be leaving us at the end of April too.  But she will be coming back with tots in tow…

Changes, changes, changes.

*RESTORATIVE YOGA (5 classes now – and growing)

They won’t always be with me.  As much as I love the classes, I must give other teachers a go at getting classes of their own, and I am moving into admin. (with Debbie absent),   rather than taking actually yoga classes.   RESTORATIVE YOGA …is a beautiful, gentle yoga which is done using lots of props and lots of time.  No balancing, no headstands, nothing but gentle stretches and rests.  You and/or a friend will love it especially if you have had surgery, are anxious, haven’t exercised for years, have a weight problem, or have a neurological problem.  It is also a PERFECT prenatal and postnatal session – if you are pregnant, please get a doctors certificate and bring it to your first class – not because I think you are unwell, but as it is an insurance requirement.

At the moment I am the only one locally able to take RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY CLASSES.  If you have a serious health issue, make sure that the class you are coming to is taught by me.  On request I started a Sunday class, most people can make 4.30 on Sunday, and I hope you can too.

www.yogabeautiful.com.au If you are looking for any changes in times and days, then please go to the web site.  You will find everything there.

NEXT TEACHER TRAINING CLASS –

The next will be on Sunday, the 1st May…..at the Bentinck – in the Yoga Room, enter through Romsey Road only.  Please join us.   If you are a distance ed. student then the cost of the afternoon is $10.  If you are a visitor you are most welcome – and if you are a visitor and not formally a student teacher with us then the cost is $20.

Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “AYI YOGA UNIVERSITY”

All our classes are available via distance education and you can start any time..  Thank you to those students who are moving from their 200 to another, higher course.  Once you have got into the habit of learning, then it is easy to keep going….   Within our school there are three levels of YOGA TEACHER TRAINING, plus a course in the Gita, the fundamental source of all yoga teaching through the ages.

1.    THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)

2.    RYTA200 –  THE BASIC YOGA COURSE

3.    RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP

which you can take in a number of ways.  You must start with
      200 hours first.

4.    RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY TRAINING

5.    PPT Massage technique.  A stand-alone class, fully insurable.

Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.

THE SHOP and ETSY  www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

We recently were noticed in Mass. USA and we are getting a review for our posters and colouring book – if you had not noticed, colouring in is the new thing.  Best seller list stuff…

LET’S GET COLOURING IN:  This week I received an email from one of our students who had purchased the chakras and colouring book and REALISED THAT COLOURING THE DRAWINGS  WAS A MEDITATION.  I celebrated.  It has taken a year for a student to understand the reason for the drawings. THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU……!!!  They are being reviewed by a journalist in the USA who LOVED THEM.  She said that we were so “on trend”.  With these posters you can colour and then frame them.  Not just put a book in the shelf.  And they are big.

We also have a great piece of fun just come in.  It is a round tube like a hollow steering wheel with a ball inside.  I don’t go for these gimmicks, but this is fabulous for core and upper arms – a couple of minutes and you can really feel the difference..  Ring Deb and ask her about it.  $35 plus postage.

I move with the infinite in nature’s power.  I hold the fire of the soul.  I hold the life and healing”. (Rig Veda)

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au

We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..

REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE HAVE BEEN UNCOUPLED.  YOU CAN BUY THEM SEPARATELY.  A DEARER OPTION, BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT.  WE AIM TO PLEASE.

YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so):

Signing up for a course – our course included, is like buying a car.  You can’t buy it, take it for one run, leave it in the garage and a year later go back to the dealer and ask for your money back.  It doesn’t work like that.  If you are on the course, you are on the course until you write and let us know that you are not.  If twelve months and more have elapsed with no contact in spite of all our newsletters, etc…. then you have (as far as we are concerned) been on the course for 12 months.

If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only.  Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if  you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course.  We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes.   Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.

I have found  if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….

TAKE CLASSES WITH JAHNE ANYWHERE, ANY TIME.
VIDEOS:  THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum.

I can’t stress this enough.   Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal.  I have shown you what I recommend. All you have to do is download.  I even did a video on ‘The Gita, and a number of philosophy videos for those who can’t come to class.  There will be more of these.  Good feedback thus far – thank you. Please.  Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly.

This will make your course shorter because if you don’t watch the videos, don’t get the hints and tips we give you, you may have to do modules again.  It does not save time not to watch.

Before you start the course, spend time wading through the videos.

MY GARDEN (OUR GARDEN)

Actually it is called “The Buddha Walk, and although I have encouraged you to take the walk and sit by the pond, few do.   The garden is such a blessing.  Every morning it provides greens for my smoothies, and surprises me  with lemons, jerusalem artichokes, scallions, fabulous garlic and herbs… for my main meals.   It is a blessing in such a small space.

CONSULTS WITH JAHNE

If your question is a lifestyle issue, a domestic issue, or a personal issue and you want personal advice (counselling), even hypnotherapy….then there is a charge.  Her service is professional and there is an hourly rate. Please enquire before you decide to make a booking.  Teacher Training issues at the moment are part of the course, and cost nothing – but you need to make an appointment.   Please, respect Jahne’s 50 years of teaching and training. Her time is valuable, she is always teaching, studying or working with her students – it is all a matter of energy and exchange.  We are a Sangha.   Thank you.

REGARDING DEBBIE

Debbie is not available at the moment, I am via email, and if you especially and urgently can’t find the answer to your question in the videos, in your books, or on line!  I am sitting at my desk and doing yoga classes at Innisfree on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons, sometimes on Sundays…. Ph: 0354 273 518 or email yogafirst2@bigpond.com, or text 0402 088 170

Please this time is NOT a counselling session. It should be about your course.  If you have enrolled with other professional distance education schools on other topics, you will know they charge to speak to the principal.  We don’t.  Before you ring, plan what you want to say, get organised, and be gentle. I am always available on email or text because I teach and am not always at my desk.  (I am not a beautiful as Debs and will get you to the heart of your needs quickly).  Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can.

THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..
