Dear Yogis,

Time to get your yoga minds organised and back to class TODAY.  First class at 1pm.  I am ready, and looking forward to seeing you all again – although for the first time I have really enjoyed the break.

For those of you who are new trainee yoga teachers.  I have made an executive decision (as you lot were all over the shop).  The next Teacher Training class in the studio will be the 21st January at 2.30.  Please, please make an effort to come along.  You don’t HAVE to of course, but if you haven’t got time to come to a once month teacher training, are you going to have enough time to actually teach?  There are some things that are better to experience in the studio.  Please let me know if you are coming.

I have just finished a painting of The Buddha, and am starting on a new work today.  This may be in the Gallery Opening Exhibition in February if it is not sold prior, in which case a Limited Edition print and cards will be available.  I do have a Limited Edition Print of the painting “They Came From The Stars” which sold before  it even got on the wall.  I also have cards of the most recent works.

The Little Gallery Preview SHOWING will be Friday the 9th February starting at 5.30, but you my students can make an appointment and come see what I am up to any time I am free.  I am trying valiantly to get a few things on the wall for the preview.  If I was Chris Canning I would not have to even think about it – she realised $239,000 for a painting at auction before Christmas.  That says a lot for the market for art at the moment – it is on the “up”.  I remember her first big time exhibition (her subject matter has not changed – flowers).  It was at The Art Exchange in Flinders Street, and even then –  about 25+ years ago, people were waiting around the block to get in and she sold out on the first day. It was a sensation.   Persistence and patience pays off.

I have been re-reading the autobiography of MIRKA MORA.  I have read it before in fact have a review copy years old now.  On first reading I skimmed over the parts where she talks about her older age (83).  This time I have slowed down and paid attention .

Now I have students around me also getting old and perhaps not looking after themselves as well as they might, and I am reminded of my student (and mentor) the Late Annie ten Brink.  She died at home whilst getting ready for her day. She never forgot she was a sexy female no matter her age, and looked after her body (including hair and nails as well as bones).

The day before she died,  she had come to the studio and had her weekly massage – Earlier in the week she had done her yoga with me, had her nails done, and been to a weight class.  Yes, she drove some people nuts, however, she was a model not just of how to “organise” yourself in older age, but also how to deal with injury.  She ALWAYS organised a team when she couldn’t do things for herself due to illness or injury, and recovered well from various breaks and surgeries, in fact, I think  she made the recuperation time marginally enjoyable.  We could all learn from her –  I try, and so should you.  It comes to us all.

Four of the best things you can do, top of the list – 1. Keep talking to your group and 2. Be with them regularly, 3. Ask for help if you need it, and 4. don’t forget who you really are – eat, do and be who you love, age doesn’t have to shrivel you up.
