GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute…. Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga. We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs. Our programs include training in meditation, asana.
TRUST Once trust is lost it is hard to get back. Working as I do with people who have hurt everyone close to them, and lost everything in the process, trust is a prized virtue, and one I have to examine often in myself.
I know what it is like to be without trust. I was raped when I was seven, but that was just the first time. Because of the time that I lived, teachers could do anything that they wanted, carers had free reign, and boyfriends/husbands likewise. “Crying rape” was not an option. Women didn’t have a voice – it was always our fault, no matter how young. I do believe there is no such thing as ‘Domestic Violence”. It is VIOLENCE, it is ASSAULT. There is nothing “domestic” about it.
That kind of history – and I am not alone in that experience – taints your life, hurts, but it doesn’t have to define you. Over the years I have learned to make my mess into my message. Life made is made up of many moments, happy sad, joyful and painful. These moments make up the fabric of who we are, and I think that once you see who you are, you can decide what you want to reflect. Do you want to reflect the unkindness, the violence, the neglect – or do you want to change that into LOVE? It is your choice but you have to honestly see what you are before you can become who you want to be.
Living in tune with your heart (God?) is the way to be happy. I congratulate those people trying to trust a partner or a friend no matter what, but without love, it is a hard and painful road, and you can usually see the effort on their faces and in their lives. Doing it alone is plain hard work.. The first step is forgiveness, and forgiveness from the heart not from the head. “LOVE” as the Beatles sang….” is all there is”. What you are may sometimes miss the mark, a prisoner in liberty. Get up somehow, get clean right now and be a happy, happy child set free.
ANYBODY GARDENING OUT THERE……?
This week a student asked me to tell them how to stew fruit. I was so gob-smacked that I felt I should alert you to the joys of the garden this week. You can get pretty close to God in a garden.
We are getting to the end of one season and the start of another and nature is starting to tell us what to eat. I have a lot of herbs (weeds) that are popping up. This is nature saying to us that we need to clean out our digestions making way for the heavier (fattier) food we need for the winter. “Real” dandelion is coming up, nettles – yes, I have three plants after years of trying!!! – they are both green lush and fantastic. The mint is growing up from the base and I have chives, chives and more chives, and everything onion..
The clue is to go out into the garden, and instead of having a recipe before you go into the garden do it the other way around. Go into the garden, see what greens and fruits are available, and decide at that point what you are going to make for dinner. Doing it this way will mean that you won’t have to shop for the things you don’t have. It is pretty simple, but we get out of the way of doing this.
At the very least make a simple soup or a tea and use the gorgeous nature’s harvest, instead of growing it and letting it go to waste.. Soups are so easy. Chop and cook roots (potatoes, onions, artichokes, parsnips, carrots) and leaves (nettles, spinach, dandelions etc) in water with the addition of salt, tomato puree or soy sauce, even a dollop of miso paste. Muck around until it tastes terrific. Then add lentils, or chickpeas and cook until everything is “soup like”, tender and delicious. Then put a piece of cheese toast in the bottom of your bowl and pour the soup over the top. Unbelievable. Enjoy.
It is not hard to do. It is economical and life sustaining. No need to be complex. Simple soup for a simple life. Leave the complex for the chefs on the telly, people who live to eat, instead of eating to live.

YOGA CLASSES – Times/cost unchanged from last year. Classes held at the Bentinck THE NEW HOME OF THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE. Cost: $10 per person per class (or $100 a 12 class pass: non–transferable). $15 mum plus little yoga bub. $25 per family (mum, dad and two primary school children. Young adults $10 each).
Jahne’s classes are designed around her 50 years of teaching experience. People say “can we have…yoga, or ……..…yoga tonite”. The answer Jahne always gives is “I don’t know, all depends who is there, and what is needed”. Friends, Yoga is not a recipe that is repeated the same way every time in every class. That would be mindless. If you want repetition don’t go to Jahne’s class. There is a thread running through the class. But it is not EXACTLY the same. If it was the same each week, you could just check your mind at the door. The shelf is for shoes, not for minds.

*RESTORATIVE YOGA is a beautiful, gentle yoga which is done using lots of props and lots of time. No balancing, no headstands, nothing but gentle stretches and rests. You and/or a friend will love it especially if you have had surgery, are anxious, haven’t exercised for years, have a weight problem, or have a neurological problem. It is also a PERFECT pre and postnatal session – if you are pregnant, please get a doctors certificate and bring it to your first class – not because I think you are unwell, but as it is an insurance requirement.
Please if you have recently given birth and wish to come to yoga with your baby you are both more than welcome (I always have maintained a baby even a couple of days old is welcome in our classes with their mum), but please be sensitive to others in the room when you join a mixed general class. If you wish to change and feed we have a lovely conservatory room especially set out just for you. Warm, carpeted, floor to ceiling garden windows – a million dollar view for the short time you exit the class! We love babies, we love young mothers, however, if you want to be with other young mothers going through the same things as you are, please wait until we start our Mums+One classes.

PHOTOS FROM THE MISSION ALL THE INCOME FROM MY PAINTING AND ARTS GOES INTO OUR
VARIOUS PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS. This is an ongoing philanthropic effort for us and the money as you know goes towards buying bandages and other necessities for the mission. If you can send even a few dollars, please do (talk to Deb on Tuesdays or Wednesday to arrange). We live the yamas, so, you will know the money will go to where we say it will go, and be used for what we say it will be used for.. No staff or administration fees deducted at any point!
Photos: www.flickr.com/photos/amigasdelsenor PS: You can’t send the money direct, although that would be easier – it has to go through the US Mission office for reasons of security.
I have attached a photo of my current work – lots of you have asked, and here it is. The size is 120cm x 90cm. Quite large keeping mind it is in pen and ink! It is a commission, already sold so you can’t have this one. If you want something special for your home or studio, I can do one for you as long as I can work in my own time.
No deadlines please, and then I am all yours. Everything will change for you when you work out that there is plenty of time in every day to complete the important things.
MITZTI THE MAZDA
I am still in the little Corolla. I am so pleased that I have my Mazda coming home this week. I could have been disloyal and swapped cars and I am so pleased I did not. My car, old as it may be is so “nippy” and can turn on a dime. The Corolla is newer, marginally more glamorous (sort of), but mine with all her foibles is so much better. I will reiterate however that the service that I have received from Kyneton Toyota has been wonderful. Fancy being given a new car for as long as it takes free of charge, plus daily updates. They are caring for my car as I do. If you want to explore their superior service call the service department on 0354 210 200. And, they don’t try to sell you anything!!!!
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “JAHNE’S YOGA UNIVERSITY”

*THE BHAGAVADGITA (and YOGA PHILOSOPHY) which is like a Certificate or Diploma Level, RYTA 200 which is our “degree course” and *RYTA500 the “masters”.
1. THE BHAGAVADGITA (YOGIC PHILOSOPHY)
2. RYTA200 – THE BASIC YOGA COURSE
3. RYTA500 – THE NEXT STEP
4. RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY TRAINING (WE WILL BE ADDING PRE AND POST-NATAL RESTORATIVE YOGA ).
Most people have never met, and don’t understand, that there are angels all around us whose only job is to make sure that you don’t get too comfortable, fall asleep and miss the important moments (and gifts) in your life.
THE SHOP and ETSY www.myyogabooks.etsy.com This week I received an email from one of our students who had purchased the chakras and colouring book and REALISED THAT COLOURING THE DRAWINGS WAS A MEDITATION. I celebrated. It has taken a year for a student to understand the reason for the drawings. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU……!!!

REGISTRATION/INSURANCE www.yogabeautiful.com.au We are giving you total choice now, although it may be a bit more expensive…..
REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE HAVE BEEN UNCOUPLED. YOU CAN BUY THEM SEPARATELY. DEARER, BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT. WE AIM TO PLEASE.
YOUR TEACHER TRAINING YEAR (or so): If you are a trainee Yoga Teacher who has been working on the course for more than a year please understand that your course fee only gives you FREE classes with me for your first training year – the first 12 months only. Imagine if what would happen to our Institute if you took three years to finish your course and you could still come to classes free for the entire course. We do our fee calculation based on 12 months of free yoga classes. Your training fees cover you for a year, after that we ask you to pay $10 per class.
Also, just signing up and not sending in any modules means you are not really a trainee yoga teacher, and unless we receive regular communication (even if it isn’t modules), at a certain point we will deem that you have disconnected from us, and we will disconnect from you. And, coming to class with no intention of completing the course just to get the cheaper, easier student insurance, and free classes isn’t exactly living the yamas! Sooner or later we will call your bluff.
I have found if you paddle your boat it is easier to maintain the illusion of control, but I tell you it is so much more fun if you pull the oars in and just let the river take you where it will….
VIDEOS: THEY ARE NOT OPTIONAL – THEY ARE NECESSARY! Only $275 per annum. Please look down the list of the videos before you try to do stick drawings, or organise your journal. I have shown you what I recommend.. All you have to do is download. I even did a video on ‘The Gita. Good feedback thus far – thank you. Please. Email us and Debbie will make sure that you are logged in promptly.. yogafirst2@bigpond.com
and SMALL SMALL DRAWINGS…
I have just finished some miniatures for the “1000 OM” Project. I will put them on the site when I have got them totally ready for you to buy. The first will be appearing on the poem above. The small lino prints that I hand-colour are already on the ETSY site www.myyogabooks.etsy.com
– the tiny Sumi paintings have sold out.
GARDENING WITH BENEFITS We have had every season this week. Freezing and hot all on the same day. I still have strawberries and raspberries coming along, my jerusalem artichokes are flowering, the onions of all kinds and the garlic is fabulous, and my apples are providing the apple a day. How lucky am I to have this garden. It also means that I can share it about.
Thank you to Heidi, my student from Euroa who kindly deposited a watermelon and a pumpkin on my front porch as she made her way to a retreat in Daylesford. I have shared it around and it has been a wonderful opportunity to do that – if you bring it to me, you are bringing it to the community. I thought I had to get help to cut up the pumpkin (and did before I worked it out!), but actually when I came to dice it and slice it the knife went through the skin easily. It is a long time since I have had a fresh pumpkin, and it is years and years since I have had the pleasure of a fresh watermelon. I wish I could have bathed in it – I certainly gave my insides a shower.
YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s – all with Paul Grilley Just got a new shipment. They are the best and will form the backbone of your yoga references. As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each. I thought that this was a good investment. I think half that is a steal! And that is what we are selling this for. www.yogabeautiful.com.au
JAHNE’S MENTORING SESSIONS …. Because Jahne has been teaching yoga teachers for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) she is often asked for advice. Asking course questions is free. This does not mean IDLE Yoga questions “just because you want to know” – She could spend her whole day answering those and getting no-where, in spite of the fact you may think your life will not end if they are not answered.
REGARDING DEBBIE – If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On those days she is available on Ph: 0354 273 518. I am always here, and available preferably on email or text because I teach and am not always at my desk. Don’t hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can..
THE LAST WORD: I try to imagine life without being able to speak to God, but none of the days without that special energy have the same laughter, or opportunities…..
