YOGA NEWSLETTER 18TH JANUARY 2017

THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE IS MISSION DRIVEN AND MEMBER SUPPORTED.  BECOME A REGISTERED MEMBER TODAY.

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY

Hi there Students… As you know if you have been reading my facebook entries (there are not many), I have been drawing again. After receiving a stunning Christmas gift, I was inspired enough to go research octopus at the Melbourne Aquarium. I met a beautiful white one there – although I think white is the colour they take when they are not happy or stressed (or albino – there was no label so I don’t know for sure). I thought I would draw “The Angel of the Deep”, and feature an octopus. I hope you like it. The Octopus as a totem is wonderful. It inspires healing, spirituality, intellect (they are exceeding clever) etc. etc. So, If I am “missing in action” you will know I am at home with my angels again..

Giving Monday

With the year screaming forward (have you noticed Easter has arrived in stores?), we wish to thank all of our members for your ongoing support all year long. If you are thinking of giving to an excellent cause today or any time before the end of the year, The Australasian Yoga Institute hopes that you will think about your Foundation. Every donation goes towards scholarships and teaching opportunities.

THE FAST TRACK AGAIN

For those students who have got well into the course and have been teaching consistently, but have taken a very long time, and are looking at a long time to finish, then this is the answer. THE FAST-TRAK. This means that you will do modules 19,20,21,22 and the exam. When these are received (and you have FOUR MONTHS to complete – not forever)you will get your RYTA200 Certification. The cost by distance is $650, or if you come here and do it in a day, then $950. If you are interested, then please contact me via email:yogafirst2@bigpond.com

HYPERMOBILITY

This is my “inspirational” corner of the house looking out to my beautiful garden. I do my writing, drawing and thinking here (and the tarot drawings of course)

DNA/TCELLS/BLISS
I have completed the article for The Australian Yoga Life magazine on Hypermobility, it has been accepted, and hopefully will be in the March edition. One can never tell. It was commissioned, but it is only an article, and if something even more stunning comes across their desk then it may be some time before mine makes the cut. But I don’t mind – it was a great discipline to do a large article with a required word count, and achieve it. Get the book on Etsy.

You have to start somewhere, and the beginning is a good place. Please, teachers, catch up by getting these books, reading them and reflecting on your practice.www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. THEY ARE JUST THE BEGINNING. Come to Teacher Training when you can.

Teacher Training? Just in case you haven’t seen any reference to it – and someone said I never write about it in the newsletters. I do. All the time. You have to read this newsletter to keep up! ….. Teacher Training: 1st Sunday in the month between 2 and 4, every Wednesday at 12.30 and philosophy on Saturday morning at 11.30.   AFFILIATES and those who would like to be. HELLO TEXAS! Teachers! Please give this some thought. If you would like to Affiliate and start teaching teachers (you need to have graduated), then please email me and we will arrange a visit – or a chat depending on where you are of course. If you have a studio, it’s your next step.
EMAIL:

Please use the email address yogafirst@optusnet.com.au for anything to do with accounts, or the usual yogafirst2@bigpond.com. To get to me. If you do want to speak to me personally, then email, make a time suitable for both of us, and then we can chat. If you do it this way, rather than just “wing it”, you can be reasonably sure I have time, and you will get my attention. POSTAL ADDRESS is not at my home – small mail box out in the open means that rain is an issue. Please address all land mail to the address it has always been – PO Box 14, Mt.Macedon. Vic. 3441. Until you see a change written here in large letters, that is where it will be.

PLEASE COLLECT YOUR MAIL PROMPTLY….

Please make sure you visit you local Post Office with your COLLECTION SLIP in hand if you are waiting for items from us. Items waiting for collection are sent back to us. This incurs double postage when we re-send it – nothing you/we will want to do with today’s postal charges. The fact that you have not picked it up does not mean that it has not been delivered. INSURANCE
INSURANCE ALTERNATIVES. We are no longer closely involved with our teachers with regards to insurance…. AJGallagher seems to be the only one who will insure students who have not graduated but are teaching – although I must say they are increasingly difficult to deal with. However, we have made an alliance with Dancesurance which appear to insure students (trainees not yet graduated) cheaply, and, if you have a studio, they are really the only ones who insure this with understanding. If you are a student MAKE YOUR STATUS CLEAR, if you don’t, and need to make a claim, you may discover (too late) that you are not covered.

RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY INSURANCE: Dancesurance and AJGallaghers have both come through with a specialist insurance for our Restorative Yoga Therapy graduates. They can add this special insurance on to their ordinary insurance AT NO EXTRA COST. They have examined the course, they have looked at the caliber of the students going through, and made their decision. All you need to do is to supply a copy of your registration when you apply. Dancesurance – www.DanceSurance.com
Arthur J Gallagher – www.ajg.com.au

Why Register with THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE?

PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION. You need to be currently registered for your insurance to be valid, and you will need to supply a copy of a valid registration to be insured. Please check your insurance requirements – keep up to date. They change quickly.

REGISTRATION – CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

We have fallen in line with other organisations and ask people who are registered with us and wish to re-register to do at least one short course in the year as a continuing education requirement. I have been shocked by what teachers THINK they know, and teach. You need to keep up. You can do one of my little courses on ETSY, or someone else’s, doesn’t have to be onerous, just something to keep you on your academic toes so to speak.

LATE PAYMENTS

Every month the same names turn up. Insufficient funds, problems with the number etc etc. The explanations are wondrous, BUT, you have a month between payments to make sure that everything is in order. So, to encourage you we are taking the lead from other organisations, and we are going to charge $15 every time we are met with problems with funds. If it happened occasionally I would just think OK, try again. But it is every month and takes time. Jacky applies a couple of times to make sure she has the right numbers, then she emails, then she types up a list, then she passes it through to me, and I start the process again. Sorry. But it is wasting time. We already make every effort to accommodate you, keep our tuition down, are frugal so you can be trained economically. So please, try to be on time and have your funds in order. Otherwise, we will have to up our fees to cover these time wasting problems, and I am resisting that.

THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE IS MISSION DRIVEN AND MEMBER SUPPORTED.  BECOME A REGISTERED MEMBER TODAY.

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY

As you know I work with people suffering from severe addictions – if I have a passion with regards to yoga, then this is it. The hardest thing for them is to view their body correctly. They want a world of no suffering, and a body that they can use and not think about. They are not used to feeling (anything), and are neither connected to their body or the world. They have not realised that their troubles started with the body, and their greatest obstacle to change is their mind. Remember, your duties no matter what they are, or where they are… should not preclude you from mantra, chanting or yoga. If you are a householder with children, this makes your journey to wholeness imperative. Once you get the hang of it, you can be connected to God through mantra in every minute no matter how you are interacting with the world. Try it. Amazingly helpful for people suffering from anxiety, especially if you use a set of mala beads. Chanting and mantra calms “the swarm”.

NORTHCOTE TEACHER TRAINING CLASSES.

From next Monday, we (I) will be leading a yoga class at 11.30 and this will be followed by a 2 hour teacher training class at 1.30. So, if you are a trainee yoga teacher, or a yoga teacher, or a yoga student (and especially if you want to train as a yoga teacher), there is a place for you with us. No need to ring first and book, BUT, until we have brought together a core group I would appreciate an email on Saturday or Sunday letter me know you are coming. It is a big room, plenty of space, so bring a friend. Where? 9 Langwells Parade, Northcote, just off the high street. Park in the Aldi carpark 2 hours parking spot, and walk through, it is a very, very short walk.

Giving Monday

Members, Yogis and students. Every day in every way Charlie and I work with the yamas in mind. If students want us, if classes are needed, no matter what – we are there. We bring yoga. Now with Northcote opening, and working into new areas of need, new communities of addiction, we are asking for your support. If every one of you gave $25, we would have enough money to support our outreach without having to do the “alms rounds”, begging and pleading. It should be natural to support your school – please support us. Miracles happen every day – and with your help, we could move mountains. Just $25.00! To make it easy for you, and to give you something back, every YOGA NIDRA PROGRAM downloaded from our site www.myyogabooks.etsy.com, until the end of February, will contribute to the program. You win two ways – firstly you will be contributing to the program, and secondly you will be downloading a useful program. Thank you.

THE FAST TRACK AGAIN

For those students who have got well into the course and have been teaching consistently, but have taken a very long time, and are looking at a long time to finish, then this is the answer. These are the four most complex units in the course, and the exam is not small either. You will have really discipline yourself.

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY

I love teaching yoga teachers! Love it, love it, love it!!! So this year I plan to do more of it. Maybe not just in this country – just maybe I will take advantage of an invitation or two. I have become a home-body, and I am considering change. My writing is being well received, and I will do more and more of that. A large article on Hypermobility is coming out in Australia Yoga Life next edition and the “part 2” already ordered for the edition after that will be helpful I am sure…..

CHANGE: I want to teach people who want to change (and DEDICATED trainee Teachers), who want to learn more on a deeper level. Not people who just want to lose weight or get more flexible – or something vague that their doctor (or partner) suggested. People who want to do more than one class a week, who will come to philosophy. People who are interested in the REAL yoga – not the fitness regime. I think this means people who want to teach yoga, or people who want to get well. I have called the yoga that I am exploring “Q-YOGA” (Quantum Yoga). A yoga that looks at genetics, science, channelling and ancient texts.

INTRODUCING…….
THE NEW “Q” (QUANTUM) YOGA at The Australasian Yoga Institute. Hope-Williams sees the work at QYOGA as a departure. “In The Ranges we have gray weather, more prejudices, more self-restraint,” she says. “We’re more austere, and our sense of belonging to this environment is very much present”. And maybe these give rise to two historical yoga characteristics: (1) simplicity and (2) the acceptance of the unforeseeable or unexpected.

Her possession of this dogged, sort of messianic faith stands opposite to the way she presents herself, disappearing constantly into the yoga, the philosophy she articulates. She has a way of revealing her truths through illustrations, anecdotes, and koans, often boiled down to single lines. “When your back gets straight, your mind will get quiet”. “Life without meditation is like winding a clock without setting it. It runs perfectly well but it doesn’t tell the time.” “Things go the way the mind goes. If you think you are a yogi, you’re a yogi. If you don’t think you are a yogi, then you are not a yogi.”

In fact, at the new Q-YOGA, it’s our obligation to transform ourselves, too, to leave our comfort zones, because that’s what we’re asking of you—and someone needs to walk you there. In the garden out the window is the real “QYoga”. The trees spring from the ground, delineating the garden and the boundaries. Green, lush, fully flowering, fruiting in the summer – then stark, skeletal when autumn comes. Be inspired.

NORTHCOTE TEACHER TRAINING CLASSES.

From next Monday, we (I) will be leading a yoga class at 11.30 and this will be followed by a 2 hour teacher training class at 1.30. Where? 9 Langwells Parade, Northcote, just off the High street. Park in the Aldi carpark 2 hours parking spot, and walk through, it is a very, very short walk.

THE FAST TRACK AGAIN

For those students who have got well into the course and have been teaching consistently, but have taken a very long time, and are looking at a long time to finish, then this is the answer. THE FASTTRAK. This means that you will do modules 19,20,21,22 and the exam. When these are received (and you have FOUR MONTHS to complete – not forever and NO EXTENSIONS) you will get your RYTA200 Certification. The cost by distance is $650, or if you come here and do it in a day, then $950. If you are interested, then please contact me via email: yogafirst2@bigpond.com. These are the four most complex units in the course, and the exam is not small either. You will have really discipline yourself.

HYPERMOBILITY
You have to start somewhere, and the beginning is a good place. Please, teachers, catch up by getting these books, reading them and reflecting on your practice.www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. THEY ARE JUST THE BEGINNING. Come to Teacher Training when you can.

Teacher Training? Just in case you haven’t seen any reference to it – and someone said I never write about it in the newsletters. I do. All the time. You have to read this newsletter to keep up! ….. Teacher Training: Ist Sunday in the month between 2 and 4, every Wednesday at 12.30 and philosophy on Saturday morning at 11.30. Now we can offer Teacher Training with me at Northcote at 1.30 on Mondays.

This incurs double postage when we resend it – nothing you/we will want to do with today’s postal charges.

We make every effort to accommodate you, keep our tuition down, are frugal so you can be trained economically. So please, try to be on time and have your funds in order. Otherwise, we will have to up our fees to cover these time wasting problems, and I am resisting that. So, to encourage you we are taking the lead from other organisations, and we are going to charge $15 every time we are met with problems with funds. Motto? Please be on time. We don’t want to be going back, and back – pleading for you to keep your agreements.
