Dear Yogis,

The exhibition opened on Saturday, and already some have sold.  Thank you to those who purchased a painting.  I put them on the wall at an amazing price, just so I can sell them and  get some more and fabulous inks and paints to keep going and keep growing.  Yesterday I prepared three new and larges canvases all ready and waiting for new works.

Yesterday I bought an old push-me-pull-me lawn mower for the nature strip.  I was driving back from Church, passed the op-shop and there it was.  I had to have it, but how to get it home.  I had just paid for it (a ridiculously small price), it was raining, I have a small car, and i was wondering how to get it home when Grace walked into the shop – she bundled it into her car and delivered it.  It was meant to be.  It was all I could do to stop her using it – she has been complaining about a sore back, and this would not have helped.

SATURDAY SEWING BEE.  Although a few people asked me to teach drawing, I might later in the year – right now I would like to teach sewing basics. Last year i had a Saturday afternoon SEWING BEE, and it was well attended.  Another might be quite good. I have been asked to help make a Church Stole (nothing to do with evening wear).  I can do it on my own, or I can invite you all around for a class. These are interesting (simple) items and can be constructed on a sewing machine and incorporate embroidery and appliqué, or they can be completely hand sewn – which greatly appeals to me.  I am also free for you to bring some items to me to be sewn, or mended.  I have some rather startling fabric here that was thought to be repurposed into a doona, but I might make a skirt instead – not a culotte like the one in the picture.  If only fold around here were a little more individual and unafraid in their choice of clothes it would be lots more fun for me!

I don’t know if you recall my lovely slub satin over-shirt, black with red peonies.  I wore it so much it almost fell to bits.  I have recently mended it (finished last nite) and now it looks beautiful.  I oversewed all over with the Japanese moro technique.

I like it even more now, and it will last a few more years although it was not a quick fix.  You will see me wearing it in yoga class again.

MT.MACEDON GALLERY EXHIBITION:  Meet the artist (ME) at the gallery – Saturday 7th September, at 2pm.

NAMASTE – JAHNE (An unusual Artist)

Hi Yogis,

I am hoping that you will come see the exhibition THIS Saturday in Mt.Macedon – I will be there from 2pm to 4pm to share my champers…. It is your opportunity to add to your collection of my work (?) at never to be repeated prices.

The sales will allow me to move forward.  I am thinking of new work  – death masks – although if it were possible I would like to do SPIDER WEB MINIATURES, an ancient method by probably not ecologically responsible, we do however dust our houses for spider webs, perhaps this is a way to use the web for something beautiful.  Dusting is not my hobby, so I have lots of spider webs.. especially on the back verandah.  Thinking back I have collected perfect spider webs on card, but that meant destroying webs – we wouldn’t do it today….

I am also going to be using tarot cards with NO images – like the Spirit Book with no writing, forget about the multiple decks of cards you have in your shelves.  It is an exercise in trust.    Taking the rug out from underneath myself so to speak.  Treating them as normal cards – doing the cut, but having to work intimately with spirit to hear the messages.  It is going to be quite an exercise. Let’s see how we go.  Come and experience this spirit led tarot (with the pendulum of course) when you are ready.

DRAWING:  I recently spoke with a student struggling with her beginning attempts to draw.  Dispiriting when the teacher doesn’t understand even the basics herself.  The right paper, the right pencil –  “2B or not 2B?” as my teacher once said.  Once you have mastered the basics, have confidence with a modicum of skill, then you can start sketching and achieve a result… but until you know the basics you can’t.  She has asked for some lessons – would you like to join her?

FORAGING:  With rising costs, I just don’t understand why more people aren’t foraging.  There is still only me haunting the banks of the Five Mile Creek.  I do have a lot of fabulous weeds in my garden, cleavers (sticky weed) for instance.  Mixed with parsley and dandelion it does make a delicious, almost sweet pesto (even the cat likes it).  During lock down I did a foraging blog.  I think I did it for me as I didn’t get many lookers until I did a vent about Coles, or made gin.  I don’t really understand why you will even pay $6 for a wilting bunch of greens in a supermarket when there are miles of beautiful fresh greens available free of charge.  IGA are stocking seedlings, but at $5 for one sad looking parsley plant, I can’t see why you go there when you can get a packet of seeds for the same price at the produce stores.

MT.MACEDON GALLERY EXHIBITION:  Meet the artist (ME) at the gallery – Saturday 7th September, at 2pm.

NAMASTE – JAHNE (An unusual Artist)

Dear Yogis,

Only one bit of news that is taking up my mind this week – I have an EXHIBITION opening happening this week (Saturday September 7th) at 2pm at The Mt.Macedon Gallery.  Please pop in at 2 (or up to closing time –  at 4pm) – down the lane beside the General Store called  “The Trading Post” and next door to Dicksonian Rare Plant Nursery.   I will be there to chat about the artwork, or about a portrait for you, (or yoga).  I would love to see you.  I was trying to think how many exhibitions I have had here and around the world, and it has to be 100 (or more) considering I have been formally exhibiting since 1976 when I had my first exhibition at Monash University.  Considering how long I have been exhibiting it is amazing how few painting I have in my stock room (shelf) – Because we live in straightened times, and there is not much money around for either yoga or art, I have manicured my prices accordingly.  You can get a piece of artwork for $120 (one third of which goes to the gallery and the art group to enable it to keep operating – paying rent and services).

I am especially enjoying the medium I am using now, and will get larger and larger works completed as I master the technique.  Old fashioned photo/print/drawing transfer using paper, glue (mess) – definitely no modern gello which doesn’t give the depth, the handworked look and feel – then I overpaint, or draw, and then multiple layers of encausting wax, put on, dabbed off, until I get the right, aged look.  When I am happy I do more painting, more gilding.
