THE AUSTRALASIAN YOGA INSTITUTE…

Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….

Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, The Australasian Yoga Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga. We teach yoga techniques for body, breath, mind and spirit in 200hr and 500hr certification programs. Our programs include training in meditation, asana. GOOD MORNING DEAR STUDENTS

I was recently glancing at a TV program about PENGUINS (yes, penguins) and thought how much like the yoga students they are, except that penguins know how to survive, and sometimes yogis and yoga teachers don’t. Out in the wilderness when the wind-speed picks up, penguins don’t just walk around in solitary circles, they huddle together. Out in the cold alone they know they will freeze, but in community all close up, the temperature can reach 70 degrees. Unbelievable. They have a deep instinct for community– we have to build ours. You can happily move on in your own life, putting yoga to the side, or you can make it central and go to the sangha (and/or regular yoga practice), in the certain and perfect knowledge that some breakthroughs can only happen in community. What holds us back individually can often be overcome in a group.

Looking at nature once again, think about the Redwood tree community. If you have ever been to the States and seen such a forest it is impressive. The trees are some of the tallest in America and certainly some of the oldest– 2,000 years is possible. They don’t even fall down when they die!  Why? Because the roots of the Redwoods are not deep but they are wide. They intertwine.  Each tree holds up its neighbour.  Do you hold up your neighbour?  That is the purpose of the Sangha – to intertwine, in order that each of us holds up the others, providing strength, comfort and security especially in times of storm. What is Nirvana? Seeing one thing through to the end. Hell is not a punishment, it is training.   PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – GRADINGS ETC.

GRADINGS: For some time I have been considering how to properly recognize the different levels you all perform at, particularly with regards to the final exam. Some people write heaps but its just regurgitated (usually heralded in their work during their course year), some people are pithy but totally accurate, and some just don’t get what we are trying to achieve at all no matter how much mentoring is done. I was looking at my own wall of certificates and then I realized that particularly at the higher levels (and especially at Oxford Uni), exams are graded. So I have started to give your final certificates out GRADED. So you will begin to see on your Certificate of Completion (not your Registration) various grades. This has solved the problem for me, and I am sure it will give you a more accurate view of where you are at. If you want a good grade, step up, more contact, more research, more reading….

RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY TRAINING AT MY HOME STUDIO. THE NEW LEVEL 2 COURSE HAS BEGUN. We had a fabulous 2 afternoon workshop together. For the best – the latest about Restorative Yoga therapy classes, Training and THE ALLIANCE….
  Go to www.restore.moonfruit.com

If you want to get your Restorative Yoga Therapy Certification at Level 2 and move on to level 3, then you will need to do your LEVEL 1 FIRST. You need that certificate BEFORE you can do Level 2. Please pay attention. Because a few girls were not able to join us for the Restorative level 2 Workshop, and although I did not intend to have another class in Victoria for a while (country studios getting my time), I have decided to hold a class in May I think. I will firm this up over the next couple of weeks. For previous students: If you have done the last workshop, loved it and would like to repeat it (every class is a little different) you can for a small fee, I would love you to join in and share your experiences since your workshop.

The Restorative Yoga is becoming the backbone of our practice, and there have been some new developments. I have already informed most of you that there are three levels.

LEVEL 1 is the teach yourself course on www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

LEVEL 2 is the RESTORATIVE YOGA COURSE and the Introduction to Therapy with emphasis on Structural Yoga Therapy..

And LEVEL 3 (coming later in the year) In this I am presenting a course which will include nutrition, the use of exclusive essential oils and therapeutic mixtures which can be prescribed and used in conjunction with the yoga to make it a stand- alone clinical practice. This would be a great addition to the practice of those who are doulas (both with pregnant women and the dying), and those who routinely work with the chronically ill, people in recovery… etc etc.

You cannot do LEVEL 3 if you have not done LEVEL 1, LEVEL 2 and started out with the RYTA200. This will be truly a therapy course. There is nothing like it in the world today. If you are looking for a life path, if you really do want to become a yoga PRACTITIONER rather than a YOGA TEACHER, then this is for you. The curriculum is not complete, and the Level 3 course will not be until later next year, but there is lots you have to do between now and then.

LEVEL 1 is on ETSY right now, you can start now, and The next RESTORATIVE LEVEL 2 will be delivered where we advise. I am working on level 3 and the “Alliance”. Level 1 is not a hard course, but it is not a “rubber stamp”. If you don’t pass the exam for level 1, then there will not be an option to move to level 2 unless you re-sit the exam until such time as I can see you have understood.

If you are almost at the end of your Teacher Training, do this practical course,  do the practical course, and catch up with the theory at a later date.

Please email me, and let me know your intention, or go to www.restore.moonfruit.com for details and an application.

(I will travel to you to deliver the workshop if you can get 5 students – you and 4 more).

“THE RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY ALLIANCE” – is a project we are currently working on, using The International Yoga Therapy Assoc. as our model. It will take us years to get to their level of perfection – but it is something you need. It will be an organisation aligned to The Australasian Yoga Institute. A branch of The Institute which will  be inviting papers, focusing and sharing the more therapy aspects of what we do in Restorative Yoga. Not a medical model, but certainly a healing model.

WITH REGARD TO STUDENT INSURANCE AND REGISTRATION (again):

We have brought in a new regime to make this link between STUDENT registration and STUDENT insurance very clear, and very organised…. Please note, you cannot get student insurance on the day that you enroll with us unless you have the documentation and relevant YOGA teaching experience that makes it possible. Student insurance is not a right, it is a great privilege. And it CAN BE awarded under very specific conditions.

Please mark in your diary when you registration and insurance are due – at this time contact us if we have not contacted you. Please note that although Lloyds of London are noted as the underwriter, AJGallagher is the insurer. If you have an issue contact us, or contact them.

PLEASE APPLY FOR YOUR INSURANCE THROUGH US. When you do this you will save money, and you will get many more FREE additional modality options, AND we get a tiny donation from each insurance from the insurance company to our Foundation…. THE AYI COURSE VIDEOs. As it says in your initial emailed information pack,  from the very first one with how to set yourself up clearly noted, please make a journal note of all the yoga you do in a day, and that includes the videos. A computer is just a computer, and whilst we make every effort to get them to comply with our will, they sometimes don’t. If you have a daily journal and mark down in it all the yoga you do and watch, and then on a monthly basis transfer the totals to your passport, you will have a hard copy record, and a computer record.

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK and SECOND HAND BOOKS

You might be able to still get the book (and many others) second-hand from the bookshops below. I would advise you to buy a few so that you can amortize the postage cost across a number of books rather than one.

If you remember she left to birth the beautiful Sabrina Rose – teaching right up to the last minute so to speak! In the old days when we had a studio in Gisborne we walked women in labour from class to the labour ward!  It was beautiful – but probably would not be allowed today!

GIFT VOUCHERS for The Australasian Yoga Institute.
Vouchers are available (all year) for $135 or $70 class passes, and massage $95 one hour or $50 half hour. Please contact me and we will arrange it. Email yogafirst2@bigpond.com Trying to climb the ladder of success? Forget the ladder. In yoga, everything is right here on the ground. THE SHOP and ETSY

ALL OUR IN-HOUSE DVD’S AND CD’S ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS SITE.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YAMAS AND CHAKRAS – my own little books are on etsy. Why spend hours looking for the information when you can pay from under $10 for these books and have a very valuable easy-to-read reference and resource www.myyogabooks.etsy.com. If you get them and read them they will help you with many of the concepts that you are having trouble with especially in your modules. Go to “CHOOSE LIFE”, a home based on-line restore and recover program. I have loaded a new course “ CHOOSE LIFE -THE 30 DAYS WELLNESS/HOME REHAB COURSE”. If you have gone through rehab and need a booster, or you need help but can’t leave home (or afford a rehab), please download it from ETSY and try it. The MALAS and THREE MINUTE MEDITATION on ETSY.  If you have been inspired (by me) and by the experience of using Mala Beads to stimulate interest in meditation, I have made some, and have now loaded them this week on ETSY. They are wooden beads, with glass linking beads and a very special red and gold pendant bead made especially for us and inscribed with the “OM”. The cost of this packed in a box with a special bag, and an inspirational/instructional tiny booklet will be $35 plus postage. This money will be directed to The Foundation to help others.

YIN YOGA/ANATOMY/MEDITATION DVD’s –Please indulge in ALL three
They are the best, and will form the backbone of your yoga references. As I have told you before when I bought mine they cost $100 or so each. I thought that this was a good investment, and I still do. We have had to increase the price TWICE – everything everywhere is going up, and we have held this price for a number of years. Now $57.50. At this price we are accounting for currency increases and decreases, and they are still cheaper than I paid for mine initially. Look at Ebay – everyone is about the same. At twice the price they are still worth having. With Christmas coming, please order yours today. I don’t have many left and I am waiting for more stocks to arrive in the mail – at this time of the year they sometimes get caught up in customs. www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

PS thank you to the students, who realising they got the DVD’s at the wrong price have sent me the difference between the old price and the new one. It is greatly appreciated. The gesture made me so proud of the students who have taken this step. They are really, really living yoga.

THE GARDEN  What a blessing. I now have the beautiful Chalice (Charlie) working in the garden – and it is starting to look less like a jungle. A little bit of rampant fantasy is good, but jungle maybe not so good. Yesterday I picked blueberries, elderberries, pokeberries, raspberries, marionberries and blackberries. Not heaps, but enough for a lovely breakfast and lunch side dish.

THE BUDDHA WALK – I designed my garden with the idea of a Buddha Meditation Walk uppermost in my mind. We already have the statue of Jesus, the statue of Ganesha, three statues of Buddha, and The LARGE Stupa. Take the opportunity to walk through the garden, stopping at each shrine, and reflecting on what is happening with you at each. I can’t force you to walk, I can’t mandate or legislate – you have to want to. But it is there right now. It will change, it will get better, but it is already there, waiting for you. It is much easier to get around now that charlie is doing a bit of trimming!

MY TAROT – I have got the proof print for the first eight cards, and have just started work on the last card for the second eight. If you want an email reading please contact me. $35 for one question, $70 for two questions, $130 for three questions.

Let me know  yogafirst2@bigpond.com. I will keep you informed as to the progress of the cards.  They will be on Etsy as usual, and the web site is being worked on. I have got a Facebook page called My Tarot.

REGARDING THE OFFICE: Thank you all so much for living the Yamas. Now, direct that wonderful energy to looking for the time your registration and insurance is due…

ATTENTION:  EMAIL NUMBER.  There was a problem with the server, but this has been fixed until the next time – For anything, anything at all please email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com. If you do not your emails may get lost, as I am gradually going to get rid of the other email numbers…. Do not ring unless you have not got email, or you have an urgent question. Email, leave your number and I will get back to you. Phones?  We are being re-organised, even here…. So at the moment my number is 0402 088 170  – preferably leave a text or email. I will return your calls when I can – I am not a slave to either the computer or the phone, so you may find that emails or text (which I always recommend) work out best.

I am always as close as the post or the email, always working to make things better, dig deeper. Why? So you can be the best you can be. Email me, talk to me, send me photographs (send me questions). I look forward to hearing from you.  For more wonderful, delicious thoughts log on to our Web site www.yogabeautiful.com.au and tune in to our videos daily.

RE-USE, RETHINK, RECYCLE. We should all be awake and aware when it comes to how our offices function, and how we can use less paper (at least). I would like you to think of two things. Envelopes and emails.

ENVELOPES: I have to tell you that we throw away many many envelopes because you haven’t considered that if you addressed them carefully, they could be re-used. If they were addressed carefully – the name and address kept in a reasonably small, central square, we could put a sticky label over it and re-use the envelope at the end of its journey to us. Not a big deal, but if everyone did this, imagine how much paper would be saved. Rotary takes the stamps, but we could use envelopes over and over – so could you. When you send us modules there is no need to send them registered or in padded bags or with an inner plastic sleeve. You have a copy on file, and if the copy in the mail goes astray (hardly any do),  it is not a big issue to re-send?

EMAILS: Please, I am not fooled by big type face, lots of space, and ten individually scanned pages with a paragraph on each page! It makes it very hard when you consider that I have many modules coming in to me each day. When I see this, I imagine that you are trying to pad the work, and make it look bigger than it is, and it takes up more time and paper for me to to download it…. It sees me immediately in a lesser mood, so probably it won’t help you. If you want me to look kindly on your emails, your modules, do a reasonable type size (10 or 12pt), and following pages, including illustrations. Ten individually scanned and uploaded pages with one 18pt paragraph on each page followed by one big, hard to see drawing taking up a whole page is totally unnecessary.

Please pay attention and keep this in mind when sending your next module. What is Nirvana? Seeing one thing through to the end. Hell is not a punishment, it is training.   PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – GRADINGS ETC.

GRADINGS: I have started to give your final certificates out GRADED. So you will begin to see on your Certificate of Completion (not your Registration) various grades. I am sure it will give you a more accurate view of where you are at.

Teacher: Frances/Fabio Paderno  bafiodaponre@gmail.com NEW CLASSES: at the moment we are negotiating to have Feldencrais therapy classes at the Bentinck Yoga Room. We will keep you posted. We are also encouraging Kalma to come back to take a yoga class. Those folk who liked her teaching keep watching this space.

IN THE THE SHOP AT “ETSY”

For studio wanting to buy in multiples – for 10 or more the cost is $20 per mala. A saving of $15 per mala. THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY: If you are looking for reference books THE THEOSOPHICAL LIBRARY is the go-to place. There are books there you will see no-where else. I go at least once a month. It is very old fashioned and you have to pay per term to be a member, but I urge you to do this. It is situated in a beautiful old building between Bourke street and Little Collins Street in Melbourne.

This Saturday we extracted honey from the hive. It is sooo beautiful. The wax is shiny new and white, and even when I had taken more than a kilo per frame, the honey was running free. I put it back in the hive just so they would fix the damage I did in gravity extraction. Nothing added, nothing taken away – it is beautiful. I charge $12.50 for a jar – the dollars go to the Foundation. You have to collect the honey I can’t post it. Postage would probably would cost more than the honey…

THE BUDDHA WALK – Take the opportunity to walk through the garden, stopping at each shrine, and reflecting on what is happening with you at each. I can’t force you to walk, I can’t mandate or legislate – you have to want to. But it is there right now. It will change, it will get better, but it is already there, waiting for you. It is much easier to get around now that charlie is doing a bit of trimming! I would love to have enough ground to do a labyrinth, but I don’t, so just walk around stopping at the shrines.

REGARDING THE OFFICE: Thank you all so much for living the Yamas. Now, direct that wonderful energy to looking for the time your registration and insurance is due…let us know when you change address and emails

ATTENTION:  EMAIL NUMBER. I am always as close as the post or the email, always working to make things better, dig deeper. Why? So you can be the best you can be. Email me, talk to me, send me photographs (send me questions). GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES

Its a beautiful time of the year.  The weather is glorious, friends drop around, and this morning I was up early drenching the garden even though it says it might rain.  This is rain insurance – to make sure it DOES rain.  It always rains when you wash the car or water the garden.

I wanted to take a moment to write to you about a workshop I am doing in February that might come at exactly the right time for you to re-connect with our school after the hectic Christmas, and back-to-school time has settled.

With everything that has happened in the school (and around the world) this year it is definitely time to re-centre, re-focus and RE-COMMIT.  If yoga is what is central to your life, then this is your time.  The Workshop is RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY.  I really love teaching this workshop, and what I hear from students who have done it in the past is that it has changed the way they teach, changed their students, and has been a life changing experience.  It seems an easy way to teach, but as with most simple things, the effect is profound.

The workshop (at The Bentinck in Woodend)  is filling, so sign up soon.  I know that you will enjoy the workshop and it will change your studio, your practice and your life….  To learn more, see below, and hop on over to www.restore.moonfruit.com.

While you are waiting for the Workshop,( and between yoga classes) grow and sustain yourself with a daily gratitude practice.  Before you go to sleep at night, write down three things you can be grateful for (a lovely thing to do as a family)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – “JAHNE’S YOGA UNIVERSITY”

RESTORATIVE YOGA THERAPY TRAINING  (NEW COURSE WITH A PRACTICAL SESSION IN FEBRUARY)

The Restorative Yoga is becoming the backbone of our practice, and there have been some new developments.  I have already informed most of you that there are three levels.

LEVEL 1 is the teach yourself course on www.myyogabooks.etsy.com

LEVEL 2 is the RESTORATIVE YOGA COURSE and the Introduction to Therapy.

And LEVEL 3 In this I am presenting a course which will include exclusive essential oils and therapeutic mixtures which can be prescribed and used in conjunction with the yoga to make it a stand alone clinical practice.

The curriculum is not complete, and the first course will not be until later next year, but there is lots you have to do between now and then.

LEVEL 1 is on ETSY right now, you can start now, and The next RESTORATIVE LEVEL 2 will be delivered in February 2017 at The Bentinck (I think).

Please email me, and let me know your intention, or go to www.restore.moonfruit.com for details and an application.

WITH REGARD TO STUDENT INSURANCE AND REGISTRATION (again):

In the new year we will be bringing in a new regime to make this link between STUDENT registration and STUDENT insurance very clear, and very organised….  Please note, you cannot get student insurance on the day that you enrol with us unless you have the documentation and relevant YOGA teaching experience that makes it possible. Student insurance is not a right, it is a great privilege.  And it CAN BE awarded under very specific conditions.

  •  You must be an enrolled student with all the documentation on our file,  and current regarding your course payments
  •  That you are sending in your modules regularly to achieve your full teaching qualification
  •  That I am comfortable that you can in fact teach (and it is not just about asanas).
  •  That you have a first aid certification, and a police check.
  •   And that you agree to teach only what has been taught to you to the date of getting the insurance.

I have brought some anomalies to the attention of the insurer.  I might take the opportunity to go to their Queensland head office over the Christmas – just to get the best benefits with the best safeguards.  The student insurance is just that STUDENT insurance, you are not able to behave and teach like a graduated teacher, and the Student Insurance is going to reflect this VERY VERY clearly.

Insurance only – $220.   PLEASE NOTE:  Your insurance is tied to Registration.

NOA BELLING – YOGA HANDBOOK and SECOND HAND BOOKS

You might be able to still get the book (and many others) second-hand from the bookshops below.  I would advise you to buy a few so that you can amortise the postage cost across a number of books rather than one.

CHRISTMAS /SCHOOL HOLIDAY SESSIONS

We will be closed from the 23rd of December to the 3rd January (first class on the 4th).  Apart from that the classes will be as usual.  There will be a $100 unlimited class pass that will apply from the end of the school term 19th December to the start of the new school term 26th January. If you don’t have a pass,  each class will be $20.  This is an expensive time of the year, students ask me to be open,  say they will come, and don’ –  but my expenses don’t stop.  At least in this was I will know that there is a guaranteed small income.  Your usual class pass will be held closed for these dates and can be used again in the new year.  You won’t lose any time or money.

2017 CLASS PRICES….

This is just to let you know that I will be increasing my class prices substantially in the new year, from the 26th of January.  I have kept my prices low since I moved into The Bentinck in an effort to encourage people to do more than one class.  I had more room, and I reasoned that if more people came more often that would be good for us all, and would allow me to teach at a low price, very affordable.    This has not been successful, so I am taking them back to where they were at my Home Studio.  From the 26th of January, they will be $15 per class or $135 for a 10 class pass.

Ever since I started teaching I have  kept my prices low to encourage more students.  However,  teachers I have trained and with hardly any experience (when measured against mine), and  yoga teachers generally,  are charging TWICE AS MUCH per class as I am, and in the CBD the average price per class is $25.  It is a matter of economics.  If I could make them free classes, I would – however, at $10 per class they were almost free, and still people didn’t commit.  So $15 it is.  If you all decide to commit, and make yoga a priority and come to a class or two every week , and the classes are consistently full, then I can take the prices down again – It is your decision.  I do what I can do! Thank you to the core group for whom yoga has become part of their life  – they will reap the benefits later in life

NEXT TEACHER TRAINING CLASS

The next will be on Sunday 8th January,  2pm to 4pm (followed by restorative yoga at 4.30) at the Bentinck – in the Yoga Room.  Please join us.  If you are a distance ed. student then the cost of the afternoon is $10.  If you are a visitor you are most welcome – and if you are not formally a student teacher with us then the cost is $20.    We have had the most wonderful trainings, there is nothing like them.  Please do come.

GRADUATING STUDENT:   Those who know Rachael Tabone will be overjoyed to learn that she has graduated (announced at teacher training), and is now a fully qualified yoga teacher.  Congratulations Rachael.  A hard road, but you made it.

GIFT VOUCHERS

Vouchers are available (all year) for $100 or $50 class passes, and massage $95 one hour or $50 half hour.  Please contact me and we will arrange it.  Email yogafirst2@bigpond.com
