Blog Student News Trainees/Teacher News

Dear Yogis,

Thank you to those people who have responded to my call out and will be subscribing to the new newsletter – “HEMPISH”.which will be a newsletter dedicated to HEMP AND HERBALS.  Taking these subjects out of the yoga beautiful newsletter…and into the hands of people who are interested, use the herbals, and are interested in all aspects of health and wellness..

Life is not just about asana, as we have been reiterating in both our ‘Gita class on a Sunday and our Sutra class on Tuesday.

ZOOM SATURDAY 2pm – The Tarot/Pendulum making, and painting class.  This has been one of our most popular classes.  This is a class that I really look forward to.  It is fantastic.
ZOOM SUNDAY 10am – The Bhagavadgita class
ZOOM TUESDAY 7.30PM – The Sutras.
You can always find details about any of these classes on the front page of www.yogabeautiful.com.au, or on the drop downs under Classes or the subject you are looking for.

THE ART OF YOGA (OR THE YOGA OF ART)
Because I have been painting and drawing every day, when I go into the newspaper shop, or hop on line, I have been ending up in the ART SECTION.    Yesterday I picked up the latest edition of ART GUIDE AUSTRALIA.  A fabulous guide to art, artists and galleries throughout Australia.

This month, one of the featured artists is Guy Warren who is 99 years old (in his hundredth year as he would say), and still  looking terrific and drawing, painting or scribbling EVERY DAY.  We all know that no matter if we are a cricketer, a pianist, and artist or a yogi, to be the best we can be we have to practice our craft every day.

I love it that he has shows planned next year in King Street Gallery, the National Art School, and Nicholas Thompson Gallery in Melbourne and Gallery Lane Cove in Sydney.  What a fabulous schedule!

We could all stretch ourselves but we don’t because we have doubts and those doubts slow us down.  That is one thing that working in the Friday and Saturday art groups helps with… it calms our doubts because we get feed back from people who are seeing what we do and see our work with fresh eyes..

The American Philip Guston said that “Doubt is the acute awareness of the existence of alternatives”, and Australian Art Critic  Robert Hughes (who always called a spade “a …..shovel”) said “The greater the artists the greater the doubt.  Perfect confidence is given to lesser artists as a consolation prize”.

Don’t let doubt in yourself hold you back.  Just work through it.  I think I have told you about the painting of a ballerina I made for my grandma then I was 6 years old.  It took me such a long time to draw and I was so proud to give it to her.  She looked at it and then handed it back.  She said “That’s nice but your cousins Pat’s ballerinas are much softer and so beautiful”.  I was crushed and i still recall those words today.  But it didn’t stop me.  Even though my cousin, Pat and others did much more beautiful work than me, I kept doing it, even when I was told traditional art was ‘dead” and I wasn’t able to go to art school, because  commercial art was one of the only art options and i wasn’t interested.  I keep painting… and yoga-ing.

Where are my arty cousins? They didn’t have to work at it so I guess they didn’t value it, and never became professional artists.  The rejection made me stronger.

We all meet rejection at every stage of our lives in everything we step out to do – the better you are, the more rejection you will experience.   I became unstoppable.  No matter what happened, no matter what people said about the art or the yoga, I have continuously worked the art alongside my yoga.  They fitted together beautifully – sometimes more art, sometimes more yoga.  First hard work then comes passion (not the other way around).

YOU TOO can make this match in whatever field you have chosen.  Yoga gives balance to every life..BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT, JUST AS YOU HAVE TO DO ART – EVERY DAY.  ART DOESN’T JUST HAPPEN.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

THE NEW “HEMP’ISH” NEWSLETTER
It was easier to co-opt an existing yoga list and newsletter than to fiddle around with the time and expense to design a new one.. so for the time being that is what have done….  I am not speaking about anything drastically different to what I usually do, but I am just singling out the HEMP NEWS, and directing it to people who have responded and shown an interest.  It won’t be a daily newsletter.  At the maximum it will be twice a week in between the yoga news.  When you see “HEMPISH” in your inbox, you will know it is from me!

If you want to receive it, and have not yet indicated that to me, please let me know – yogafirst2@bigpond.com

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
I have lots of thoughts EVERYDAY, and most of them don’t come to anything – I just have to play until one or two out of the bunch (if I am lucky) suddenly jumps out at me.

In order to work with what some would think a lucky co-incidence,  a few things need to be in place.

  1. First, I have to have a meditation and yoga time in order that any reasonable creative thoughts can arise at all.
  2. Then I have to stand back and not judge, picking out the ideas that appeal – being prepared to play and be challenged.
  3. Then I have to have enough trust to know if I move down the path that has been presented to me, something wonderful WILL happen.  It may not be what I originally anticipated, but it will happen, and I will be able to move forward. I need to bring a certain amount of trust to the table, and be able to play.  I don’t always understand the first time an Idea comes to me. But my guides will keep on pushing me down the path if I let them,  and move with them, rather than “but’ing” against them (“but this”, and “but that”!)

What helps in all of this is if you have someone POSITIVE and on your side you can talk to and brainstorm with.  I have the cat, and my pendulum.  It is just a matter of teasing out the good from the chaff, and being ruthless if something clearly doesn’t work.  It’s is not about being frustrated or thinking that it won’t work (mainly because I am looking for something EASIER).  If I persevere, one idea usually leads into another.  So something you thought wouldn’t work one way, may work another way.

For instance.  I recently had a difficulty with my Bendigo printer with regards to getting accurate reproductions of my paintings.  They are not art printers and it took some time before they understood what I was trying to achieve.

I  could have thrown in the towel, but I didn’t (at various points I was tempted).   With patience and lots of time, I sourced a local photographer/printer who can do multiples in different price ranges and qualities at a much cheaper price.  Not top of the line museum art quality, but fantastic just the same.  The printer in Bendigo who I challenged with my problem then explored papers and inks.  The result? We all now have found different markets,  and in my case a number of alternatives to work with depending on the needs of the client.

Now I know I can get any quality and quantity of art printing done, I can explore new clients, and new opportunities for my art. (For those of you waiting for the prints – I now have them and the angel print in 20x20cm will be ready for you next week!).

This formula works for almost anything, including yoga studios.  Coming out of covid – you may have to look for new markets and new clients.  Don’t give up. Be challenged and know that with patience you will win..  PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE WILL GET YOU PLACES THAT JUST HAVING TALENT WON’T. Lots of people with much more talent than you or I have fallen by the wayside… Don’t be one of them.  Keep going, keep achieving, keep learning.

SEE YOU ON THE MAT.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis

Here we are Thursday again and a holiday for me.  I am tidying up loose ends.

For some time I have been bringing together HEMP  recipes, information, training and news, and would like to create a separate newsletter for everyone out there who would like to receive it by itself, as I don’t get much of a “thumbs up” response from yogis – although I am not sure why? It is a very interesting subject.  Particularly for those with hypermobility – See Hemp in the drop downs on the home page.

I could make it part of the newsletter that I already send out, but that is getting longer by the day.

Let me know if you would like to be on the new list, and I will let you know what we all decide.  Your suggestions will be welcomed, and I would love you to be on the new email list.

YOGABEAUTIFUL

If you would like to join a studio class  – keeping in mind I only am allowed three persons per class given the size of the room (I have checked with a friendly policeman), please email me. yogafirst2@bigpond.com.  I only have a few places left.  Monday nite which I advertised this week already has only one vacancy.  This could be made for you!….

All the details with regards to classes, pricing and props are available on the drop downon the home page under CLASSES.

I am off to get my Pendulum Boards printed… see you soon.

NAMASTE.  JAHNE
