SUMMER IS COMING…

….a bit slower here than most places I hope, fire danger is always a concern in my part of the world when we reach the super dry, high temperatures.  It is interesting on zoom to see students coming in from interstate – whilst we are freezing (happily) they are sweltering.   These changes should be reflected in our diets. After Covid “Pauses” in our life and the comfort food (and the Covid Bulge), now we can start into the lighter, energy diets of summer.  RAW ENERGY.  I have taken to eating more raw food during the winter, and experimenting in covid to avoid weight gain, the lack of energy and heightened anxiety and/or depression.  Food can help.

Before we start, I have to say that TURKEY TAIL Mushroom powder has become a staple in my regime.  I just feel totally on top of things without having to take multiple supplements (my pendulum has been advising fewer and fewer since I have been taking
Turkey Tail). I also notice (and clients have backed this up), that dreams get more lovely and more vivid – my sleep is deep and refreshing.  If you want to try this, it is $35 for 25g.  The one that I use is organic and as fresh as I can get.  You only need quarter of a teaspoon once or twice a day.  Let me know if you want to join me in this.

Healthy eating has been called a TIMELESS SCIENCE.  In this house I use my food to work towards  what the Taoists considered the goal of life – achieving harmony.  You can’t have harmony in your life if you are spending time doing yoga, meditating, striving in all areas and then eating inappropriately for you and the time of the year.  The Doshas at the very least will give you a clue.  Ayurveda even more.

Food can help every individual to achieve the balance between the acid and the alkaline.  Balance.  A diet producing less acid more alkalinity in the blood, calming the mind to lessen the impact of stress, or the wrong food, it can also be that the natural energy present in food is destroyed by cooking or preserving (or packing).  We cannot live by bread alone,  even if it is vitamin enriched.

I quote one of my students (sadly no longer with us) who told be she was a “fruitologist”.  In spite of the fact that over the immediate past  years had suffered with multiple cancers, she refused to see how imbalanced her diet was, how much sugar she was eating, how little protein etc etc.  I guess it was easier to continually eat a banana…

We are moving into summer, and can eat healthily, happily with a balance of fruit, vegetable, nuts, grains… even potatoes. Not everything has to be eaten in its natural state.  We can make butters, cakes, milks, soups, salads, breads etc etc all from raw fruit and vegetables, which are a pleasure to eat as the temperature rises, and can be eased into our winter diets as the temperature changes and the seasons change.  It is all about BALANCE.

HERE IS A BEAUTIFUL SALAD RECIPE:  ORANGE SALAD (4 serves)

This can be a meal in itself, it is quick, easy to prepare.  Great for those who like to pick between meals.  When you have all the lovely picky things in a bowl, you will know how much you are eating, and will feel satisfied…  Small fresh meals eaten 6 times a day instead of 3 huge serves (plus dessert and cake)  could work for you.

INGREDIENTS:  4 carrots, 1 or two cups finely (very finely) shredded cabbage, 6 oranges, 2 handfuls of raisins or 6 fresh dates, or 2 cups of small seedless grapes, 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons hemp seeds.

METHOD: Grate (or chop) the carrots.  Juice four of the oranges and blend the juice with the carrots until you have a smooth mix.  Finely shred or grate the cabbage and put it into a bowl with the other fruit (raisins, dates, or grapes).  Pour the carrot mix over and mix with a fork or your hands as Jamie does.  Sprinkle with the seeds and garnish with the two remaining oranges peeled and sliced.  You can serve this in a bowl, or spoon into baby gem lettuce leaves, which is mostly how I like to serve it.  I sprinkle fresh sprouted greens or parsley over the top to add extra nutrition.   It looks really special.

I am going to reboot my cooking blog “WWW.WILDNWEEDY.BLOGSPOT.COM”.  You loved it but I have put all my energy into this YOGABEAUTIFUL newsletter during Covid.. I will do three days of newsletter, and mix it up with the blog.  The garden is fabulous, and I will show what I am doing with the produce I harvest (and what I buy – not everything I eat is grown in the garden, but it can make an ordinary bowl of food look wonderful)..

It is almost Christmas… and things are already hotting up. Remember that I said to you early on on Covid when everyone was whinging, that after the Spanish flu came THE ROARING TWENTIES.   Right now, shop after shop, hotel after cafe after web site is telling me the same thing.  In this State in this country we are experiencing the ROARING TWENTIES.  Of course, even way back there were people who made their money making moonshine – this is still the world, and there are still moonshiners.    However, not only are we “the lucky country” we are a model the world is taking note of and following.  Who knew?

What about you? Are you booming ahead?  On Radio National this morning they said that at this time in the worlds history we can’t guarantee a “job for life”, to get where we want to go, we have to be continually up-skilling.  To be at the top, we should always be in study mode.  I am, are you?  Don’t live in the past.  Look around, talk to your people and find out what they are looking for (even before they know they want it), and work on getting it to them.

Yoga is no different.  We need to be continually discovering more and deeper disciplines to pass on to our students.  Always networking, always aware of what we can do to help our communities.

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR A SPECIAL SOMEONE:  I find that in my collection I have a FIRST EDITION of “SPIRITUALISM ITS HISTORY, PHENOMENA AND DOCTRINE”  by Arthur J. Jill.  with an introduction by Arthur Conan Doyle. Over Christmas we are launching our new updated PPT SACROCRANIAL MASSAGE THERAPY – because I was asked.  I have continued to read about the connections between PPT, Sacro-Cranial Therapy, and the latest information coming from scientists about the response of cerebrospinal fluid and the energy field it generates.  How we can work with that, become sensitive to it, and in this way assist healing to take place.  If you do yoga with me you will realise that we start EVERY CLASS by waking up these energies – it makes a difference. (The photo to the right is not Christmas, although in The Ranges we have had big snow on Christmas Day).

What an inspired/inspiring weekend.  The zoom meetings were truly stupendous… wonderful.  The tarot class was just so much fun, and the Gita on Sunday morning really covered a lot of ground.  I wish you could be with us.  What is more important than “life”?  Anything else is illusion.  A lovely illusion, comfortable, but not “life” from a Gita point of view.  We took a lot of our text from my personal notes from my Oxford studies, leaning on Prabhupada’s translation and the expanded view by Yogananada which brings in koshas and chakras.

ZOOM AND STUDIO

MONDAY: This afternoon at 1pm there is a STUDIO yoga class.  It is Hatha, and there is one vacancy.
TUESDAY:   7.30pm ZOOM SUTRA CLASS.
WEDNESDAY:  12.30 ZOOM RESTORATIVE CLASS and 5.30 STUDIO CLASS

VISION BOARDS:  I have asked if any of you would be interested to take part in a VISION BOARD making class.  An afternoon (Tuesday, Friday, Sunday)  Let me know if any of those days are available for you, and let’s do this.  I think it would be most helpful.  We are coming out of Covid, having to re-think our lives, and a vision board is just made for this kind of growth.  It would be simple, not expensive, and we would all learn something.  I would continue with my big board, and you could begin any size you like.  A$ would be a good starting point.”

This photo is not of a vision board, but it could be.  I just started cutting and pasting, and as I am working through it I see it is my yoga morning practice. Interesting how I would make a painting of it.  It certainly is meaningful…  “how” meaningful is yet to be made known.

 

“PPT + CRANIOSACRAL  COMBO MASSAGE”…plus some Bowen moves.  Yes, it all fits together like the most inspired jigsaw.

I have been getting back to massage with great purpose since the covid has been lifted, and as always I have re-membered how I love working with the body.  Palpating, feeling the muscles and the bones, working with the nervous system..  This week I have had a number of terminally ill patients come to me, and I am so glad that I have the combo of PPT, craniosacral  and the Cerebro-Spinal Fluid knowledge (.. and I feel I am just a beginner).  How I would have managed without this understanding I just don’t know.

Maybe you need a refresher? AN EXTENSION TO YOUR YOGA/MASSAGE KNOWLEDGE?   Maybe you have just been doing the physical massage and would like to work into a massage that will “speak” to the nervous system.  I am not sure how we would do it, but I would like to try zooming a short course… There is a way I am sure.   I am making a plan and will get back to you.

The work that I am doing has the potential of providing dramatic help to a significant number of so-called “medical basket cases”.. and others for whom conventional medicine has proved ineffective.  Orthodox medicine has yet to acknowledge the the existence of the cranio-sacral system and its pathophysiologic significance.  They have still failed to embrace the concept of dynamic activity involving skull bones, meningeal membranes, cerebro spinal fluid, the intracranial vascular system, the development of the brain, the movement of the body fluids, the tonicity of the muscles and the function of total body connective tissues as influenced by the craniosacral (cerebrospinal)system, and the cerebrospinal fluid that we talk so much about, and work on influencing in our restorative yoga practice.
