Dear Yogis,

We were promised BIG rain – but where is it?  A few clouds happening,  we have had a shower or two and hopefully more to come.  At this time of the year, in spite of leaks in the roof, it is well needed, and holds off fires until next time.

A SCHEDULE REMINDER
STUDIO YOGA: Monday 1pm, Wednesday 5.30, Friday 5.30
ZOOM: Monday 6.30 Teacher Training (The ‘Gita), Tuesday 7.30 Possible HERBAL CATCH-UP, Friday 6.45 Tarot,
Saturday ZOOM HERBAL WORKSHOP at 2pm (If you sign up before the workshop – $50 for a month –  I will enable you to download one of my FABULOUS FUNGI Prints FREE).  You don’t have to turn up for the class, but you will need to enrol for the month.  Depending on your availability, I could run a catch up class on Tuesdays at 7.30.

HERBAL PRACTICE…

Some herbalists focus their entire practice on the spiritual aspects of plants, others incorporate this into their clinical work. For each tradition or herbalist, the way that plants are used for spiritual health may be different, but the ability of plants to support the human spirit unites them all.

In my practice, using herbs  promotes spiritual health and is another option for herbalists who have studied the spiritual side of herbalism through traditions passed down from indigenous healers, medicine men and women, particularly in our case, Edwards Bach, Yoga and Ayurveda.

Many herbalists use a number of  skill sets (I think this is us), so it is perhaps now apparent that an herbal education can lead in a number of previously unimagined directions, such as an herbal researcher or botanical illustrator which has been a part of my path. I am hoping I can be your mentor or instructor to lead you in studies pertaining to not only to plants, but also helping each of you see how their particular gifts, experiences, skill sets, and interests can best manifest work and engagement with the world of herbs.

When you do this workshop you will not become a trained herbalist – however, you will be able to work with your family and students to improve their wellness, and enhance their spiritual health.  The herbs I use and the essences I distill are remarkable.  I invite you to join us.  Many of the herbs grow in my garden.. you are always welcome to come and experience them for yourself.  Please ring first and make an appointment.

MIRKA’S DOLLS.

I love making dolls.  The Late Mirka Mora made wonderful dolls and I had the great pleasure making dolls with her.  After the bushfires in particular, making dolls was a relaxing and “out of the world” experience which allowed me for the time I was with her, to put the troubles aside.  She could always find the joy, just being with her changed everything.  When I make dolls, Mirka is with me.

I think most people who made dolls with Mirka learned something about themselves and the world.  For many it changed their lives.  She had workshops in halls, barns and railways station, for one person or for a hundred… nothing stopped her, she was remarkable.  I knew her from way back when she was a resident of Collins Street, when her Cafe was the artistic hub of Melbourne.  No web, no instagram, no mobile phones – just art, exhibitions, and life, real life played out with real people.

The doll on the right is under construction, unfinished.  I don’t have a real plan of what is happening, I just play and see what emerges.   These are not dolls for children, but dolls for adults – a doll to calm the mind.  A doll like this leads the mind down new paths, changes the (inner) world.  Making dolls is not frivolous, it is not a waste of time, it is not (always) for children.

At the end of the month I plan to have a STUDIO OPEN DAY, and I will show my dolls at this time…  If you follow me on Instagram you will see them under construction so to speak – the yoga of dolls.  I can always do a workshop at your studio – email me.  You can make dolls without a machine, all you need is materials paints and needle and thread, and you can even do without paint.  It is not about what you haven’t got, it is about “doing what you can, with what you have where you are” as the Buddha said.

If God gives you ten things to do, do them, one at a time.

I will see you in the garden, or on the mat (or in your studio).

Namaste.  Jahne

Dear Yogis,

What’s Holding you back? Do you blame it on the Stars you were born under?

Our zodiac signs reveal so much about our personalities, gifts and abilities. But they also reveal repetitive patterns that can hold us back from achieving our true potential. Did you know that each zodiac sign can draw in a specific type of relationship? Each member of the zodiac also subconsciously can sabotage their good luck. We need to  work through their challenges, and Bach remedies can assist.

There is so much information in Our Saturday HERBAL class/workshop, we can’t possible list it all in one paragraph .    It’s a real eye opener. With this knowledge, you can begin making positive changes in your life immediately!  Not just how to make Bach remedies, but how to use the herbs for many applications.

Aries Bach Flower Recommendation – Impatiens, Taurus Bach Flower Recommendation – Oak, Gemini Bach Flower Recommendation – Heather, Cancer Bach Flower Recommendation – Honeysuckle,  Leo Bach Flower Recommendation – Vervain
Virgo Bach Flower Recommendation – Mustard , Libra Bach Flower Recommendation – Scleranthus,  Scorpio Bach Flower Recommendation – Chicory, Sagittarius Bach Flower Recommendation – Agrimony,  Capricorn Bach Flower Recommendation – Rock Water,  Pisces Bach Flower Recommendation – Wild-Rose

It is not just about which remedy, for the most powerful result, it is also about WHERE you place the remedy.  This all will be covered in our course and Saturday 2pm Herbal Zoom Workshop.  The details are in our website www.yogabeautiful.com.au

DEALING WITH THE UNCOMFORTABLE SELF:   I try to prepare you for the road ahead, and how to live more easily with yourself, others, and the difficult world we face,  by teaching you new skills.

Fortunately, the Buddha provides us with a wide range of skilful means to deal more wisely with difficult issues. The most useful of all the skilful means is the development of friendliness or metta bhavana. While this practice is usually taught as a way of spreading universal well-being or kindness throughout the world, most practically it is first necessary to develop friendliness towards one’s own unpleasant experiences. Only when we are truly openly friendly towards our selves in all of its aspects can we really share well-being with others.

Thus, we start by developing friendliness towards our own aches and pains, our annoyances and irritations, our anger and frustrations, etc., etc. How friendly can you be to these experiences? This is, of course, a developing process. Can you really be openly friendly, welcoming and accepting of all the unpleasant aspects of your self?

Gradually, our ignorance and fear of unpleasant experiences rests more easily with us.  When this occurs we can more peacefully see them as unstable, impersonal processes, which are part and parcel of the on-going web of life – something everyone experiences. The compounded fear and hostility around unpleasant feelings gives way to a receptive and peaceful well-being.

ABOUT BEES:  The whole fabric of honey bee society depends on communication – on an innate ability to send and receive messages to encode and decode information.

SEE YOU ON THE MAT.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

COVID.

There is a lot of panic about RATS , and if you have been vaccinated and are tested positive and have to isolate, there are no directives (apart from prepare for the worst), to help you see the infection through.  Here is my routine and a useful recipe.  EVERYDAY I take as a matter of course at least 2,000mg of Vit.C per day, plus Vit.D3, Echinacea and VitB.  I am double vaccinated plus getting the booster next week.  If I tested positive of course I would isolate, but I would take the drink below, rest, and let my body take care of the damage. As my daughter said – “my body knows what to do”.  That’s true but we have to make sure it has the nutrition to do it.

It may be that we once again have to endure lockdowns as Omicron overtakes the world, so it would be good if you could stockpile your vitamins, and foodstuff that will keep. It is an investment in your health.   Also plant and locate the plants you can forage and use from your garden as prices rise (and seeds become scarce).

AN OLD HOME REMEDY. Changed and modified slightly thanks to my students who make and use it.    This is quite strong, so if you are on other medications, please check with your doctor first, or start with half strength.

Wash the skin of two or three grapefruit and one lemon or lime thoroughly,  and cut into chunks (the rind, the pith, the flesh). Cover the peels with water (no more than just covering) in a one quart saucepan and simmer for about THREE hours (I use a slow cooker).  Keep checking and moving the peels around so they all get cooked.   Cook until it becomes thick –  This of it as homemade cordial.

Once the syrup is ready, strain this mixture into a jug. To serve, pour the warm syrup into a glass (fill to a half a glass), and top – not drown –  with fresh tonic water.   It makes a froth on top. Drink it all. Sweeten with honey if desired, and drink at least half a cup of the mixture. Go to bed, cover up well, and when you wake, re-heat and take another glass… keep doing this until your temperature comes down, and you start to feel better. You can add a teaspoon of good honey to the mix if it is just too bitter, I add pine, ginger and hawthorn to the mix, and find it very pleasant.

Grapefruit peel may never play a prominent role in your diet, but it is edible, and when you trash the peel, you’re also throwing away beneficial nutrients. The peel has significantly more fibre than the fruity pulp. It also contains essential oils, phytochemicals and vitamin C, all of which provide antioxidant protection. Some of the substances in grapefruit peel even show promise for fighting cancer.

Vitamin C is most concentrated in citrus fruits such as lime juice and the associated peel and pulp, and is involved in:

  • Protecting cells from free radicals (antioxidant)
  • Improving iron absorption
  • Regenerating vitamin E supplies
  • Helping to build collagen, which holds bones, tissues and other bodily structures together
  • Metabolizing cholesterol to bile acids
  • Synthesizing norepinephrine (stress hormone and neurotransmitter) and carnitine (responsible for energy production)
  • Immune system function

Without being too dramatic – this news item came from the Queensland Department of health on Friday…  Although you could call it a Covid preparedness kit, I think we all should have these things to hand, especially as we get older, or live alone, because you never know when an accident may happen and you need help – a good idea in the first instance is to speak to a friend of neighbour and ask if they are able to be your chosen “COMPANION”.  Remember that we have a course to help people take on this responsibility.  You also need to make sure you nutrition is good every day – don’t just wait until you get ill before you check.

‘WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR COVID-READY READY KIT:  Queensland health has encouraged people to prepare using this list.  Pain relief & your medications – A thermometer – Masks, hand sanitiser & gloves – Stay-at-home activities – A plan for who can look after your children, pets, people in your care if you have to go to hospital – Phone numbers for people outside your home you can call for help – A plan for how you’ll get food and essentials for 7 days such as frozen meals, pet food, nappies and baby formula.

I am not being pessimistic, but one has to look to the future, and right now we don’t know what that may be – it changes from one day to the next.  My cards look good, and I am doing what is necessary..

I look forward to seeing you on zoom or at the studio.

NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, WE STILL GO TO THE MAT.

NAMASTE JAHNE
