Dear Yogis –

THE TRUMP –   I know this is not strictly yoga news (but does touch on the yamas).   Just in case you thought Trump may have redeeming features,  a virtue or two up his sleeve and may be human after all, then why did Trump bury Ivana Trump on his golf course (did you know this)?   There exists a tax code in New Jersey that decrees “cemetery land” exempt from all taxes, rates, and assessments. Ivana Trump was buried near the first hole of Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster. I wonder if Ivana knows that her plot now serves to exempt Donald from a quadrella of tax avoidance. He’s exempt from also paying personal property taxes, business taxes, sales taxes, income taxes, and inheritance taxes all because he buried his first wife near the first tee of his golf course.  Enough said…..

Hey good news….. in the next school term we will be launching our very first studio class of YIN FOR KIDS in a very long time.  I am looking forward to it.  I am going to start here in the studio with ONLY SIX 4 to 6 year olds.  I have taught this age group before and I love it.  They will actually learn yoga, and I will be the teacher, not just a drop off service.  The kids will learn yoga… Saturday mornings will be the go I think until I have understood the class a bit better, especially parent teacher dimensions.  Once I have a handle on it, then maybe we can have a Tuesday late afternoon as well.  If you want to enrol your little treasure – please email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com

News from every yoga class is that parents are totally lacking direction and commitment since Covid lockdowns (although they want change to happen).  I have focussed on Windarring which I love, and now getting back into KIDS YOGA, and keeping the adult focus on long term students. People who are not just looking for diversions.  I also have a small yoga teacher training studio class.   I remember when we had classes of 10 and 12 here weekly for yoga teachers.  Not now.  Just rounding people up for one class a week can be tricky.  I think they want a gilt edged invitation, constant reminders and a driver.  The fees don’t allow that unfortunately.

The kids class will be very small,  an hour in duration (maybe longer when the class has become a class), with a shortish meditation time, and maybe,  time for nature rambles in the garden….  on the basis that yoga is a lifestyle, not a series of exercises.

HELP NEEDED.

I wonder if you can help me.  I am looking for a ladies dressmaking form medium – a “ladies body on a stand”.  Not a little one for the mantlepiece but a life size expanding model for my sewing room.  No, I am not making lycra yoga outfits, EVER!

Having started (after a long apprenticeship)  by making shirts for the dolls, I realised when up-dating a gorgeous shirt into a vintage style duster jacket that a sewing model would have been a huge help.  I want to make some patchwork jackets (and do BIG patches on a couple of my own coats) and to get the drape right a sewing stand would be a help, I could do it flat, but it takes a whole lot longer.  I also have some men’s shirts I am making into gorgeous overshirts, and big patches and darns that I need a form for.  I am sort of stuck until I get one.

I look forward to sewing for you and doing even more than before….  I love repurposing.  Taking one thing, making it into another. “Re-use, Re-use, Re-use” as Joanna Lumley says.  When I was still at school I helped my aunt who was a dressmaker, make gorgeous ball gowns which were in fashion at that time (I loved beading them and would rush home from school to be buried in silks, satins and tulles….), and later when dating an army guy,  making my own gowns for the many balls – one each season – that used to be mandatory.  I wonder if they still are?

If you can help, I would appreciate it.  If you have an unused dressmakers form just let me know the cost and we will arrange delivery or pick up – time to get the one you don’t use out of the attic perhaps?  Maybe I can use it to make something, or repurpose something for you?   Thank you.

Dear Yogis,

Thank you to those who came to our Thursday Lunch yesterday.  The numbers are getting back up, the meeting room is making sense, and I am so pleased.  Since covid I have been worried that I would have to end these get-togethers, but no, you are coming back.  It is an opportunity to meet yogis (and friends) in a non denominational, social setting.  I love this opportunity to meet in a casual, relaxed manner (and the food is good too).

The lunch reminded me of The Celementine Phrophecy – everyone who crosses our path has a message for us (“Nothing can happen that is not the will of God – Trust this).

Those who left early did not get time to sit and talk to one of our number who is a “Trapeze Artist”.    Not when she was 21, RIGHT NOW.  I had the opportunity to spend time with a  fascinating person, and I had a great chat with someone who is just going for it, and living the life of her dreams.  She also makes the special leather shoes that enable her to do this amazing skill – and it is a skill.  You could learn to do it too – if you would put in the time and determination she brings to this performance craft.

EXCITEMENT!!!!  I am holding a FREE ZOOM Doll making session on Friday next at 7pm

Please make a date with me.  The ZOOM ID is below. If you want to see my latest doll, find out about how make them, how you can make them (they are simple), then join me on this zoom session.

I don’t just celebrate those passed, or those facing trauma, I also make joyful dolls – by the time of our zoom session  I should have one of my little weddings dolls finished – they can be made from wedding fabrics of a past wedding, or used as a cushion for a future ceremony.  You could even make  “R.U.OK?” Dolls

The little dolls like the one in the picture can be made in all different ways – cats ears, bears ears, no ears… I/you can also embroider initials on the front of any of the dolls.  I don’t use a machine for this, they are all embroidered by hand.  My doll faces are painted because I like doing this, but you could use a needle and thread.  I will show you how.  I really do look forward to seeing you – remember, Christmas is coming, and this could be an opportunity to make a doll or two for people you love. (I am now a “doll and bear tragic” – I bought three new bears this week.  Rescued them from the OpShop.  I will clean and re-stuff them, re-dress them, and pass them on.

If you are a CCP Graduate and you can’t sew, then pass the task to someone who can.  Funeral Celebrants need to have these little dolls in their “tool kit”, in the same way that ambulance officers, or members of the Church do.

Dear Yogis,

Don’t forget, book with me now if you haven’t done so alreadyyogafirst2@bigpond.com  –  MONTHLY YOGA LUNCHEON:  Victoria Hotel Woodend – the Meeting Room on the ground floor, Thursday 25th August (tomorrow), 12 noon. RSVP

SLEEP AND YOU

I wasn’t going to do a Wednesday newsletter, but I have been thinking about sleep (thanks to you complaining to me about your lack of sleep, and a special on LifeMatters – Radio National).

According to the latest research via Oxford University,  scientists studying the phenomena of sleep are determining now that there are different sleep patterns, and we are different from each other in our needs, our responses and the consequences.  Also our patterns change – not necessarily due to age.  For myself, I was an early riser until menopause,  Since that time I have gotten later in rising, and later to bed.  I don’t necessarily listen to the alarm, but usually wake up at the same time each morning, then have a “drifting” time which I rather like, then get up.  If i go to bed earlier it makes no difference to my rising time, although I don’t feel as sharp.  I find i am ready for a quick nap at about 7.30pm (way too early to go to bed).  Once i have relaxed into that I can paint into the wee hours.

Scientists also learned that insomnia may be just a response to our internal time clock (no news there), and if we saw it as normal we might find we have three waking times at night, which is natural to us.  My mum only had 4 hours of sleep at night, but never missed a nanna nap.  This was her routine and she thrived on it – she certainly never worried about it, or tried to change.

According to the Oxford scientists, the problem comes when we try and change these patterns.  We cause stress in the body which causes inflammation and can lead to illness.

There you are.  Just relax, and go with the flow.

MY DOLLS

Here is the latest MEMORY DOLL with a little pocket in the front to hide a precious memento of someone you love, or someone who has passed over…  Everyone is slightly different.  This one is made of a beautiful heavy denim with a double felt pocket in the front, although if you sent me fabric that meant something to you, I could make a doll for you from that fabric.  This is not just a cushion or a heart – you can talk to this little person, and i think that is important.

They are little beings to be loved, and a gorgeous remembrance token of a loved one,  although it could be made for a wedding, anniversary or a baby shower and a little love token placed in the front pocket,   I could sew a patch from a treasured dress or sweater into the doll.  Just email me and I can make something especially for you, I do have some beautiful fabrics. yogafirst2@bigpond.com

I am planning a little WEDDING Doll.. I have lace, beads, satins and silks, but it could be made from an old wedding gown or shirt, rather than leaving them languishing in a cupboard.  Remembrance dolls can be made from any piece of clothing with special sentimental value to you..
