Dear Yogis,

What a lovely weekend after ferocious rains.  If only you could have seen me at 10.30pm on a ladder, holding an umbrella in the rain cleaning out the tank filter, with water lapping the front steps…..Not exactly Mary Poppins!

When I taught in Texas I went to class by (English) bike, and at a school I cycled past,  the children used to call out “here comes Mary Poppins”.  I never saw anyone walking or on a bike.  Everyone went everywhere by car, so I guess I did look different – and on an English bike with a wicker basket.  But that’s another story.

I went down to 5Mile Creek on Saturday and the bridge and path were totally submerged – I didn’t take my camera so sadly there is no evidence, although yesterday when I went after class, I could see where the water had been, but the “creek” was back within its banks.

You can see the flattened grass in the photo although this gives only a hint of its width.  Imagine 4 times the width of this picture and you will have a conservative idea – it is miraculous how quickly it reduced considering the rain we have had, and the the sodden nature of the soil.  I did however forage (couldn’t resist) and got fabulous dock of various kinds, dandelion and miners-lettuce which went towards a lovely salad last nite.

OUR ZOOM

Tonite is our zoom class (as usual).  We are still grappling with the Sutras, Karma and Reincarnation – resolving issues across various texts.  It is not as daunting as it sounds, and because we have been zooming and studying together for some time, we can bring our personal experience to the mix.  It is always exciting, and even if you only have a vague interest you would enjoy it.  Being practical (I am a Capricorn), “REALITY” should be high on your list of things that would be good to understand….its pretty fundamental on my philosophical to-do list.

Dear Yogis,

What a rainstorm last night…  I was out at 10.30 in the rain dealing with an overflow.  All good this morning – God has mopped up thank goodness.

This weekend is a special one for me, my dolls are showing at The Mt.Macedon Gallery (on Mt.Macedon Road, just down from The Trading Post), and the BOTANICAL ART CLASS starts on Sunday at 2.30.  If you want to see me at the gallery and have a look at the dolls or talk about art or the bears the I would be pleased to see you.  I arrive at 10 and leave around 1pm.

YOGA IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

I am sure that you have been reading about the short fall in staff at nursing homes and care facilities.
This means that yoga is a welcome class now in facilities which in the past had no need of extra activities, and were well staffed.  This is no longer the case.

If you are a yoga teacher, and you are short of students and classes, you will be welcomed by people with SPECIAL NEEDS.  I am racking up the classes and loving every minute of this rather steep learning curve.  I keep thinking can I fit in another class, probably.   If you sign up for my little short course on ABLE2 YOGA  it will prepare you for work in your community.

I put the picture of Lady Di in the newsletter because she went out and did her version of “Yoga” in her community.  She sat, she listened, she did what she could, with what she had, where she was, and it worked for her, and a yoga version can work for you.

I am making the mistakes and learning from them for you.  You could do a Cert III or IV in assisting at these facilities.  I explored this, however,  I have been discouraged because it is not exactly relative to what I am actually doing – which is teaching “yoga”, or a special yoga that fits with people with SPECIAL NEEDS.

If you are interested, please respond to this call out.  There will be zoom sessions and modules as usual.  yogafirst2@bigpond.com
