Dear Yogis,

As a yoga school, as a town (Woodend), and even as a world, things are happening thick and fast – enough that we have to think about our position.  We have a new fitness destination opening in the town next week.  I went in Saturday morning.   I thought that they might have a facility like Virgin Fitness in Bourke and Collins Street in Melbourne (and New York and, and), but no,  This is SNAP Fitness, made for gym junkies, and at the moment totally questionable for a more meditative style of anything.

Virgin Fitness has meditation “cones”, and a quiet, lovely yoga/pilates room which is just made to make you feel calmer, stronger without the blaring music or the smell of rubber and metal.  At SNAP I was directed to a person called Josh who was said to be the yoga teacher.  He was friendly, charming and forthcoming.  He  isn’t trained in yoga or pilates although he knows about it and does “adapt” it to his style.  SNAP is a real gym with a real smell of paint and rubber, and the possible yoga room is an adapted room which will still contain gym equipment.

I dropped into the IGA on the way home and got to talking with Cathy an early scholarship holder who trained originally through us.  She is going on a holiday and will be teaching strong Vinyasa flow at SNAP when she returns.  This is a good match.  She is a really STRONG teacher.  So if you are hanging out for this, she is the teacher to go to – Trained, Registered and Insured.  Check who is going to be teaching you.  That logo above, is ours – we are trained, registered, accredited, insured – the whole nine yards..  our graduates teach all over the world.

YOGA FOR DISABILITY ***HALF SCHOLARSHIP:  I would be happy to give a YOGA FOR DISABILITY HALF scholarship to a student in “straightened circumstances”  who would be able to do every DISABILITY zoom class  with us – no excuses.  ***Someone who has not yet applied.  If you can do these classes each Wednesday (5 consecutive starting the second week in June), and hopefully the Monday too, please apply.  Email me and I will go from there.

I am going to be teaching at the Norma Richardson Hall in the new term.  I start on Wednesday the 17th July at 10.30 – YOGA FOR WALKERS AND WHEELIES.  It will be by donation.  Please let me know if you or someone you know may be interested.  There will be NOTHING done on the floor, everything on a chair, or standing or in your chair.  Whatever they are comfortable with.

As I have said, the Church has given me a grant to enable me to teach extra Windarring classes.  One of our clients has offered a trailer load of wood for them to raffle and raise more money which will equal more classes…  You will be able to buy tickets outside the Woodend Newsagency at the Church Stall the Second Saturday in June.

ICE CREAM RECIPE – I like ice-cream all the year round.  It has been ages since I dropped in a recipe, and here is a favourite.

I like ice cream all the year round, but I don’t like buying big tubs because they tempt one to eat more than needed, individual ice creams on a stick are too expensive, and anyway – how does one know it is made with “real milk”, or real anything.  Here is a SIMPLE recipe with only 3 ingredients.  Equal measure of 1. condensed milk 2. cream and 3. yoghurt.  Whip and freeze.  Take out of the fridge about 10-15 minutes before you need to use it as it does freeze hard.  This is gorgeous, perfect, no crystals and you can know what is in your ice-cream.

ART.  You may think I haven’t been painting, creating but I have.  I have an exhibition in September and I have decided to focus on “FACES OF THE MOUNT”.  Portraits of people (creative people) who have been movers and shakers in the creative life on the mount.  If you can think of someone you would like me to feature, let me know.

Dear Yogis,

WINTER IS ON THE WAY (the sunshine may be fooling you – but your bones will feel the chill).  I am waiting for some new HOT BASALT STONES to arrive, and when they do,  HOT STONES MASSAGE will be back on the menu.

DISABILITY YOGA:  Today we had a breakthrough at Windarring Yoga class.  We had a class where two support workers were doing yoga, 4 of our usual class and one student who is non-verbal and non-ambulatory who has only looked on.  In this class one of our students who is almost non-verbal and trapped in a wheelchair accompanied our mat work on the piano, we had singing and omming as we did movements, and the one student who had never joined in (2 years thinking about it) got excited and joined in as much as she was able (face and hands).  Then we did a 7 minute meditation.   Wonderful.   Everyone was on a high and the energy is the room was fabulous as we packed away and got ready for home.  No-one wanted to leave the yoga room!

NAMASTE .  JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

This is quite important time in my life – and therefore in your yoga life too.  No matter what I do, or how hard I try, the usual classes and activities that have sustained us (even during lockdown) have obviously outlived their usefulness. YOU have made this abundantly clear.  I haven’t made any hard and fast decisions, but be aware that I am thinking about the most sensible way to respond for all of us.   This was brought to a head this morning when I drew the Tarot Card THE WORLD.

If you too have pulled this card, then it is time for you too to re-evaluate YOUR direction too – What The World Means for US (not just me) Today:  The World card has appeared today to indicate that we have come to an end of a particular cycle in our life. This could be obvious but in some cases, these cycles can be quite subtle. In either case, we have learned what there is to learn from a pattern in our life and it is time for a new one to begin. Whether it’s psychological, emotional, spiritual, or physical, we are moving on to a new chapter. This can also suggest that there are greater forces at work in our life and it is time to allow the world to shape itself around us.

I always have gone to yoga for everything in my life – physical, emotional and spiritual,  and I have always hoped that in a lesser way yoga was as meaningful and helpful to you too.   When you can’t do STEPS, or when the unexpected happens, are STEPS, or your size 12,  going to be helpful?

WHAT CARD DID YOU PULL FROM YOUR DECK – and how are you going to respond?

YOGA CLASSES AND STUDIO TIMES…..

ZOOM CLASS :  Because yesterday was a Teacher Training day, and the folk that come to the training are also the people who come to zoom, I will be sending out a module relative to yesterdays class STRUCTURAL YOGA THERAPY.  This will be instead of the face to face ZOOM class – you can all use this time to complete the module, and maybe next Monday you will have a question relative to this module which is one of the largest in the course.  It could take you a month to finish this one module.
