Dear Yogis,

There is so much to do, and time seems to be sneaking (or racing) up on me.

I was reflecting this morning about what has changed with my students particularly since Covid.  Perhaps Covid lockdown and the couple of years after have given people the excuse they needed to be less responsible, less committed, less able to do required tasks.  They use the family, their “workload”, and lack of time as excuses for not following up, not completing things, starting and not finishing.  There was always a very small percentage who have always been like this – those who just don’t complete anything – but now the percentage who just drift seems to be increasing.

People ask me how I do so much? I can because I have a “to-do-list” which I complete every day.  Without this I would be a drifter too.  I don’t just write up the things needed to be done, I cross them off when I have completed – if I haven’t got my to-do-list completed every day then I am unemployed.  What a great thing to see all the ticks and crosses.  Try it, it works, but not if you just cross things off because you can’t be bothered to actually do them – you have to complete a task before you can cross it off.  In the old days before computers, there used to be people who came out and ran business seminars about time management.  Now it is assumed that computers make it easier – they don’t.

When I was a single mum working in my business, plus doing  four art exhibitions a year (to pay school fees), I hired a housekeeper.  I always believed working a little harder to pay to the housekeeper was preferable to fretting over ironing and cleaning.  It gave to me time to play with the children unencumbered by housekeeping..  A good investment which I would 100% recommend.

This coming Tuesday I am giving a Teacher Training final exam ON ZOOM.  It is so much easier.  I used to have to travel to Perth or wherever to give exams – not now.  Zoom takes me there.  If you want to take your exam on zoom, let me know and we will set it up.  It feels fabulous to complete – don’t let fear hold you back.  I love giving exams, no-one “fails”…!

Dear Yogis,

I have been working hard.  Have to get at least 22 paintings of edible herbs (on tea bags) ready for an exhibition in March.  I am nearly finished a painting of wild garlic, have got the artwork for the cards done (yes, even cards need artwork – names, front text box, back text.  It doesn’t happen by itself).

The picture on the left is of the marigold, out everywhere in my garden, just begging to go in a salad (tonite).

TEACHER TRAINING – We had a fantastic teacher training session yesterday and covered all aspects of restorative yoga, explored Uddiyana Bandha, and played with the healing aspects of the singing bowls.  Sorry you weren’t with us?

SATURDAY YOGA LUNCH – it was great – we had 8 folk join us… it was a spit roast to celebrate GrandFinal (I hadn’t even though of that) but luckily, in tune with the rest of the town, it was very quiet!

Hi Yogis,

I know you are all trying to wean yourself away from the TV, but please watch Foxtel 119 DOCPLAY.  I have advised some and they say they can’t get it.  I don’t have the most modern TV, and I don’t so streaming or any of that, my needs are very basic – and I can watch it.  Today they are featuring THAT SUGAR SHOW.  It is Australian, it is worth recording for later (keeping in mind these programs go for 2 hours!!!).

You will wean yourself off sugar as well as off TV.   I am told by one of my students with the most compromised health  that she doesn’t eat sugar (that she checks, or knows perhaps), it can be a secret ingredient.

ON SATURDAY IS OUR YOGA LUNCHEON.  then on Sunday at 2.30 is TEACHER TRAINING.

ART.  I have just finished painting a Canna Lilly.  Why – because it is not just a flower, it is edible, every little bit of it.  The flowers in salad, the leaves wrapping fish etc and the beautiful roots grated and dried make arrowroot, or cooked,  sliced and mashed rival potato!  Hows that for a fabulous food.

So, it is difficult to find except in an old garden, get some canna lilly corms and plant them.  They make a good hedge, they are beautiful – and don’t mind frost.  I remember my mum had them in our garden.  Now you can get them posted to you from Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery in NSW.  However, if you know a gardener who works in old gardens, ask him for some, he should be dividing up the corms now for spring/summer….  it is a good time to give you some and not binning them.  They are a tall tropical looking plant that do well in pots if you don’t have a garden.
