Dear Yogis,

Main news is our lunch today.  If you want to join us – 1pm at The Victoria in Woodend.

It is going to be a beautiful day, and this afternoon (after the lunch) I will get into the garden.  I am going to press every Bach flower I have and then frame them all.  I think it will be a good exercise.

YOUR GUT.

As we live through this period of overindulgence, and as you snooze on the couch after eating far too much, keep in mind that the gut goes through its own version of REM sleep, known as RGM (rapid gut movement).  Approximately every 90 minutes whilst you sleep,  the gut goes through RGM.  It is suggested that this is when the gut and head communicate.  Based on this, it is not such a big leap to believe that this is when gut wisdom  can surface into consciousness.  As yogis we have always believed –  dreams contain messages from the gut and the heart.  I love to imagine that in my sleep the gut and the brain are communicating.

I will see you on the mat (soon).

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

I missed yesterdays newsletter – but I have rarely been this busy at Christmas – everyone wants to come around and visit or take me out.  I am reminded of my friend Annie who used to time her days around Christmas in 15 minute increments.  A quick hello, a mince pie, and a sip of champers then she was off to the next thing.  I never understood, but now I do!

THE GUT.

At this time of over indulgence,  we should be keeping our GUT in mind.  It is one of our THREE BRAINS – head, heart and gut.  They all have brain cells, all “think”, each communicates with the other.  Donald Trump (not my favourite person in the world),  said “Experience has taught me a few things, One is to listen to your gut, no matter how good something sounds on paper”.  The gut communicates to the head via tastes.

The gut is not just the last stop on the way to evacuation, it is a place where food is made useable, a signalling station that keeps the body in tune with what’s about to happen.  The gut and the brain are wired together by the vagus nerve which runs from the brain to the internal organs.  In addition the gut has its own nervous system that is relatively independent.  So the communication between the gut and the adult brain is bi-directional, and changes in the gut are signalled directly to the brain.

In Japan there is a word HARAGEI which loosely translated means “stomach art”.  It is the practice of using visceral communication.  It is beyond logic.  it is about instinct, courage and wisdom.  They say to practice haragei you must learn to breathe correctly.  It is learned in silence.

YOGA

See you on the mat

NAMASTE.  JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Just in case you were confused….Today, Wednesday the 14th at 1pm is our last yoga class day before Christmas.  Although I enjoy time to catch up on paperwork, and do all the necessary things before we start again on the 9th January – I will miss you.  Especially this year as I have determined NOT to have the usual open day on Christmas Day, although you are welcome to drop in on your way to somewhere else.  If the weather is good I will be in the garden, if not I will be studying or sewing.

“PURSE’Y” – A SMALL BAG.

I will be at Mt.Macedon Gallery this coming Sunday morning if you want to pop in and say HI.  I am taking in to be displayed and sold,  a handbag I finished last night.  I made it out of pair of Child’s jeans,  with handles and lining from and adult bag.

It is a slouchy, pouch sort of bag, and very comfortable over the shoulder with patent handles.. It holds all my things, papers, purses, phone, money purse with lots of room left over.  It has lots of internal and external pockets, which is why I love “jean bags”..  If you have a favourite pair of jeans (especially with a good logo) I can make them into a bag for you.  If you also have a bag that has worn out I can put the two together.  The internals and handles from your bag, and the outer made from your jeans!!!  Result, a special bag designed with you in mind.
