Hi there Yogis,

Another beautiful day in “paradise”.  I am sooo busy.

THE CLERICAL STOLE:  I have almost finished the clerical stole – and it will be delivered on Saturday!  I will feel lonely without it.  Once it has been delivered I will be able to show you a photograph.

I feel very justified in doing it all by hand.  It has taken many many hours to complete the task when it would have been much speedier to have whipped it up on the machine and added a few gold lame odds and ends as was suggested to me.  This is a very symbolic item, and will get more beautiful as it ages I am sure.  I am hoping I get asked to do another now that I know the method better.  If you want a stole to wear when you are being a CCP, visiting the sick and dying, or you are Ministering to others maybe as a funeral celebrant….  or want to give a gift to your Church, then this may be an idea.

BEARS:  Christmas is coming and if any of you belong to service clubs, or need bears to hand out to children or needy families, please let me know.  I do have small bears which would be perfect for this task.  Email me to make a time to collect a bundle of bears for under your tree. yogafirst2@bigpond.com.

YOGA (and YOGA FOR DISABILITIES):  I teach three classes a week at Windarring (a facility for the disabled, and profoundly disabled), and have determined that I will do the CERT IV in DISABILITY so that I can be more effective in my understanding and teaching, understand the implications of NDIS –  and then TEACH YOU BABIES WHAT I KNOW.  Because of privacy I can’t show you photographs in the newsletter, but will get permission for our course.

This style of yoga is not just for people who are marginally disabled, but also how to teach those who are profoundly disabled – those people who are consigned to a wheelchair and need to be cared for, for their entire life.  I am having some fantastic wins, and management are sitting up and noticing.  Where yoga was dismissed as a “distraction” and maybe a time waster when I first started, every week I have more and more people come in to join the class, and more carers actually helping and doing.  It is very rewarding when you see real progress even in a short time.  And we have FUN.

When your ordinary yoga classes are diminishing I can tell you categorically that the number of people who are registered with the NDIS, and the number of teachers required in disability is going to snowball (I am sure that you have seen this in the news).  There is no-one who is teaching you how to manage this new opportunity, and I plan to.  It is more complex than you realise.  Luckily I have great support from the Management of Windarring and the Tafe College I am working with.  It is not easy, and I will have to be very disciplined to see the course through.  As you know,  I have many calls on my time already.

Dear Yogis…

Another busy week.  The shops are having a bumper run up to Christmas which is good for the economy, bad for landfill.  Thank goodness people are bringing me favourite clothing items they can no longer buy, and want replicated.  Little dresses, blouses to be remodelled.  This is wonderful for the client who gets back an item they have loved, and better for the environment as there are less items in landfill, and less items purchased which won’t be used.  You can never replace a cherished item of clothing, you have to reproduce it.

BEARS FOR CHRISTMAS
If you or your group need bears to put under the Christmas tree,  bears for refugees, those in hospital, or whomever, please let me know.  I do plan to give  away as many as I can.  They are all washed, renovated, cleaned, just waiting for a tree to sit under and a child (or adult)  to love.

Dear Yogis,

What can I say – more rain, and still more rain, some lightening, some thunder…  The garden is going gangbusters and the snails are on the march, however, it is good weather to be indoors sewing, and there is plenty to do.  If the sun was shining and i was sat indoors at my sewing table I would be wishing to be outdoors – as it is I am happy to be marooned among fabric and thread.

I have been making a plan of MY garden and am much inspired by The Late Derek Jarman (and not at all by Bangay).  Derek was a polymath and was creative in many mediums – filming, sculpture, writing, art of all kinds.  Tragically he died too soon of AIDS when it was raging through the gay community.

For me, in the studio I have a teddy bear and a pair of dolls to renovate, and the Stole to finish on time…I am getting there.  Hopefully, by the time the sun comes out I will be ready to get into the garden.. This slow time (The Rains) has really shown me where I want the garden and house to go.  I am inspired.

Jarman said that “if a garden was not shaggy, forget it”.  I like shaggy, in fact I like everything about his house, inside and outside.  The fact it is situated not too far from power poles and a nuclear plant isn’t inspiring, but given its disadvantages, Derek made it into an artwork in itself.  It is now owned by a foundation (Creative Folkestone) which uses it for creative residencies, and raising money through very controlled visits from the public.  I love everything about it.  Before it was taken over by “Creative Folkstone” to preserve it, the public got in and stole the metal sculptures, and garden installations.  I would wish that they would return them, but I know it won’t happen.
