Dear Yogis,

Are you in the groove? Are you ready for your first yoga class for the year – or are you going to wait until the end of the month?  Don’t wait, start today – I am.

Everything around here is go, go, go….

The bees are arriving tomorrow (all things being equal – the weather has to be right!).  I never considered that they are difficult to transport.  I see apiarists carrying heaps of hives from place to place on their trucks, and they often don’t even cover or block the hives!  If you don’t tie the hives down properly the rocking apparently can disturb the honey and may drown the queen.

That won’t happen here.  John the beekeeper has probably spoken to the queen, compared notes, and got her permission.  He’s that kind of beekeeper.

MASSAGE AND SO ON.

The doors are open and I am taking appointments for Zero Core (PPT) Massage for only $65 which includes a Bach Remedy.

PLUS…I have just finished making a deceptively simple sundress for a client.  It looked so easy, but as you know, simplicity is always more difficult.  I copied her favourite sundress, made a pattern, and then made the dress.  The next one is going to be so easy as I solved all the problems this time (I hope!).  I was going to make a toile, but I did it the Vivienne Westwood way – did a drape on the model, then made a pattern.  If you have a favourite item of clothing and can’t replicate it in the shops (they always continue things you like don’t they?), come to me and we will see what we can do.

Dear Yogis,

Our time of rest is nearly over.. Yoga and herbal zoom both start on Monday coming up – and I am so pleased, I have missed you.

As usual I have only just gotten used to this lovely time.  It’s the same when I go on any holiday, I am just getting into the routine when it finished.  Come to think of it it happened when I used to go car hunting with my ex.  He was turning off the cars and looking for the next one,  when I was just getting interested, but I digress.

Yesterday my power tripped at 11pm on the previous evening and I didn’t have it turned on until 11am the following (yesterday) morning.  It was marginally dark and quite cold and I wasn’t sure when the sparkie would turn up, so in the meantime I wrote the words to the Magdalen oracle.  Remember I did the paintings about a year ago, but wasn’t inspired with the words – well It is nearly finished thanks to the outage.  I wrote 18 pages!

When you are thinking of plants and herbs, think of this lovely flower.

One day around 32,000 years ago, an arctic ground squirrel ate parts of a plant, silene stenophylla, including its seed.

The squirrel was digesting it when its life ended.   Its body was recovered from permafrost and examined. Scientists germinated this plant seed. This silene stenophylla just bloomed. It is 32,000 years old. The strength, the vitality and stamina of living things — of life itself — is incredible.

Dear Yogis,

(THE AGE YESTERDAY) . ” There are no flags at half-mast, for the approximately 15,000 lives lost in 2022 (compared with just over 2000 in the previous two years), no national day of mourning, little empathising at the deep daily impact COVID-19 has had on millions of more “vulnerable” Australians, little concern over what chronic COVID-19 disease might do and is doing to the wider population.

Since the election, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his advisers have simply said COVID-19 is no longer exceptional and should be treated like other respiratory infections. But a conservative estimate is that 500,000 Australians will suffer from long COVID, for which there is no specific treatment. A still uncertain yet clearly major chronic disease burden will cause severe hospital and healthcare disruption and have an impact on the workforce and school attendance. The gulf between COVID reality and the narrative from our leaders could hardly be wider”.

Are we consigned to acceptance of this toll, to living with COVID and all its consequences no matter what? We hope not. It doesn’t need to be this way.

YOGA AND COVID.  I was listening to Radio National the Stage Show this afternoon and listening to an opera singer who had recovered from covid and a blood clot on the lung.  Normally this would be enough to spell DEATH, but for an opera singer, the breath is everything.  When she got out of hospital she embarked on a program of SIMPLE lung exercises that she learned when she was beginning her career.  Result?  Good health, overcoming all odds, and lungs healthy enough for her to take up her career where she left off.. singing lead roles in large operas.

What can you do?  Get a good teacher, and learn the breath exercises she learned (maybe from me?), and strengthen/heal your lungs.

Jesse, my son, was born with hypermobility,  but by the time he was born doctors recognised the condition, and how it effects the lungs.  Jesse has always had weak lungs and took it to himself to strengthen them in rather the same way that the opera singer mentioned above did, and became a passionate deep diver – the kind who dives as deep as possible on one breath (250ft!).

You may not be a diver, or an opera singer, but you may be in recovery from covid and  want to increase your lung capacity.  As the opera singer said “it takes time and patience”. How about you start with a yoga class, we are all about the breath.
