Dear Yogis,

Missed you at Mt.Macedon Gallery Saturday morning and Sunday…..  It always feels like coming home as it was my little centre for 5 years… before I finally moved everything to where I am now – I get the feeling of a shift in the air once again.

Everyday I pick a tarot card.  TODAY THE CARD THAT CAME UP WAS “THE WORLD”.  It is not about doing slavishly what the card advises, but thinking about the image, and how to progress through the day in the most positive way that I can.  Being a very visual person, the card helps me.    The World is a clear indication of completion. We all want to be satisfied in many aspects of our life  and  The World card is reminding me (and you) that happiness is there at your fingertips – all you have to do is reach out and get it!

Another facet of the card  is its calmness which comes when everything fits together.  When you get the World card, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on your life and ask yourself a few key questions. What do you think would make you happy? Do you have a sense of accomplishment? What could give you a sense of accomplishment? What might you do to make your life more complete? Is there already completeness and goodness in your life that you can’t see or appreciate?

WHAT CHOOSING THIS CARD MEANT FOR ME (and maybe you) TODAY:   The World card has appeared today to indicate that we have come to the end of a particular cycle in life. This could be obvious but in some cases, these cycles can be quite subtle. In either case, we have learned what there is to learn from a pattern in your life and it is time for a new one to begin. Whether it’s psychological, emotional, spiritual, or physical, it looks like we are moving on to a new chapter. This can also suggest that there are greater forces at work in our life and it is time to allow the world to shape itself around us.  I still do the Tarot Readings.  Please let me know if you want one – zoom, studio or email.  BOOK VIA THE EMAIL. yogafirst2@bigpond.com

PHAGE THERAPY

You may not have heard the word, but if you have been coming here a LONG TIME, and have a good memory you may remember me talking about it years ago No one was ever interested.  I ceased talking about it but always think of it).  Phage is a way of producing remedies from a disease, rather like homeopathy, but in the case of Phage, a remedy is made for you from your condition or disease.  The closest we get in the West is when a person drinks their own urine.

Phage Therapy was practised in Georgia (Russia) for many years.  They had hospitals that operated entirely on this principle and it worked.  A sick person would come in and was isolated in their own room with their own nursing team.  A remedy would be designed from their condition and administered to them by spraying the air, by mouth or etc.

Using phages to treat bacterial infections (commonly termed phage therapy) dates back to the early 1900s, after their codiscovery by Frederick Twort and Felix d’Hérelle . D’Hérelle in particular used phage suspensions to treat infections such as dysentery, which at the time had no other consistently effective treatment.

Why is this important?  Well, today antibiotics are ceasing to work.  Our bugs are getting too clever.  Guess what scientists are exploring now?  You guessed it – PHAGE THERAPY!  Years ago America tried to buy the main hospital in Russia and all the “recipes”, but were refused on the basis that it was a therapy for everyone, and it was thought that America would make it into a money making enterprise. Pretty accurate assessment I think.  In early 2000’s it seems to have gone international, but it began in the 1900’s.   Google it – it is worth knowing about – there is a lot to learn.

Dear Yogis,

Gorgeous for yoga weather.  I often get asked if I do yoga outdoors – the answer, NO.  I have tried it in the past but here are too many variables for some students.  Insects, people who are worried about animals and grass, weather, wind,  you name it.  It is much easier to have classes indoors. One time I was asked to hold a yoga class on a tennis court in a Woodend winter – it was 5 degrees at the time.  The answer again was no, no matter what they were paying for the class or how much cocoa was provided at the end!

YOGA THERAPY FOR STROKE VICTIMS

Many stroke victims even after “recovery” have issues with their hands.  This can also apply after other neurological incidents, even Parkinsons.  There is heaps you can do to help as it is a matter of re-establishing the brain patterns.  Nothing is quick, but it is doable.  One of the problems is that most people want a quick-fix.  There isn’t one.

I have found a four pronged approach is best.  A simple restorative yoga class, Bach flower therapy to work on mood and emotions, Bowen or PPT massage for the body,  and specific work on re-establishing fine motor skills for example – threadings large beads and getting smaller and smaller beads as skills improve, Chinese Brush painting, picking up cards or coins, crumpling paper and then smoothing it flat (both processes with the damaged hand).

Try these with your clients – but you need to do all four.  It is a therapy, it is not as I said, a quick-fix.  Let me know how you go.  You can’t cherry pick here.  It is a four pronged approach and needs to be done over a time frame – perhaps 10 sessions, 1 per week.

ZOOMING AGAIN.

I have got quite a few students who want to know how I teach YOGA TO CLIENTS WITH DISABILITIES.  I am pleased to write about it, and I will soon be able to teach it, via zoom.  Please register your interest with me.  I would like to start with the therapy above – whilst we don’t think of stroke victims as people with disabilities, a stroke however small,  is disabling.    Email yogafirst2@bigpond.com

I have visited and enjoyed my lunch immensely.  I have booked us in for 12 noon.  Please let me know if you would like to join us.

Dear Yogis,

Well, we are one week into the new year, and it looks like it is going to be a fabulous one.  I am looking forward to it.  You were not as thrilled as I was by the discovery of the 32,000 year old seed (alpine daisy) that survived the permafrost and grew afresh, you were not floored or disturbed by the 15,000 persons who died of covid last year – many are pretending it is over and done with – but I hope you are thinking how you can enlarge your yoga teaching.  Maybe in this much needed field,  to encompass the disabled in your community.  Not just people in wheelchairs, I am talking about people with serious mental and physical disabilities.  People with real difficulties in comprehension and expression.  The people I teach yoga to.

Today for instance I had fabulous classes.  Classes where I could see the changes which we made no matter how small.  For instance, I learned that  one client can hear me better if I sing the instructions (yes, sing).  Support workers, physics, and parents are saying that the clients concentration is longer, they are moving better, they are breathing better (and they look better).  I do crazy things so that my students can hear me, and know I am listening to them.  I also did a 15 minute impromptu class with the support workers which was rather wonderful.  I am sure both the clients and I will reap the benefit of this new understanding and participation.

BEES, BEES, BEES:  I am getting my bees back.

Well, I am getting bees back into the garden.  This time I have determined to be more disciplined, and really care for them.  They can be time consuming.  I am also going to be offering honey from my hives…  Last time it was a bit of a novelty and I have only run out of my personal stash a short while ago (it lasts forever).

This time I have determined I am going to do it properly, so, those out there who would like to bathe in honey – I will be your one stop shop!
