Blog Student News Trainees/Teacher News

I have been working on this for some time because of the link to the treatment or management of hypermobility, and usually I start the day with good intentions, but after slogging away at the typewriter, fail to write a blog or present on Facebook.  It should be second nature but isn’t.

Hemp seeds and oils are extremely healthy for all of us, and now they are legal to be sold as a food minus the psychoactive ingredients. They are a plant medicine themselves and have a unique protein, which is the most easily digestible of any proteins found in nature. As well as having a almost perfect balance of Omega 3,6 and 9 and all essential fatty acids, it truly is a superfood.   Hemp oil is best taken in its raw form so that none of its powerful nutritional benefits are harmed.

I have been exploring the different brands and have these pointers to help you identify a high quality product:  *Organic * non-gmo * verified pesticide and herbicide free * and grown from certified seed.

In Australia most growers are bringing seed in from Canada and processing it, and even when they say it is Australian that only means that 10% is (probably the bottle, the label and the lid).  At least if you purchase and Australian packaged product when they use the terms above, you  can have  a reasonable expectation that it is true.

You would do well to do your own research (I am writing a book), however, even supermarkets carry HEMPL, Red Tractor and Hemp Foods Australia.  Chemist Warehouse has Thompsons, however, I emailed asking for more details and they haven’t bothered to get back to me.  This I translate as “they are not interested in their customers”, and i won’t buy the product.  You can decide otherwise.  Chemist Warehouse has the cheapest Hemp Seeds which you can find on the spice/flour/seeds rack, but not well marked, and they look a bit dry – they should look full and creamy (which is how they taste).

More to come soon.  Namaste  Jahne

TO ALL MY TRAINEE TEACHERS, GRADUATES AND OTHERS.

This Sunday between 2 and 4pm is our TEACHER TRAINING TIME.  Only two hours.

The subject I am going to be concentrating on is THE YOGA OF HEMP (not the yoga of marijuana).   We will begin exploring my research into this topic which could greatly assist your clients with hypermobility – and you know how important I think that is for all of you (bye bye collagen pills).  I will also be demonstrating (not for the first time I know), my restorative yoga routine.  This is not new, but many of you act as if it is new for you – so we will go over it again, in light of the difference hemp can make to the DNA and the CSF.

If you are a teacher or graduate the cost for the day is $20 (please remember to bring it), and if you are a visitor it is $30 on the day please.

I look forward to seeing a full class arrive early or on time.  I will not backtrack for those who have come late (re-read the Yamas).

Have a lovely week.  Until I see you on Sunday – Namaste, Jahne

YOGABEAUTIFUL NEWS from THE STUDIO, WOODEND.

If you have not taken the time to listen to this GREAT BELL CHANT please do..  http://player.vimeo.com/video/6518109?autoplay=1

Have you checked out our UTUBE channel – it’s free.  Google “Jahne Hope-Williams YouTube” and it will get you there.

THE YOGA CLASSES:

Winter is coming and our classes are small, warm, and gentle.  We are still at the Home Studio,  37 Morris Road in Woodend.  Please go to www.yogabeautiful.com.au  and click on classes. Our classes (by popular demand) are primarily RESTORATIVE YOGA – it is a quiet, gentle yoga which is perfect if you are infirm, have recently had surgery, or are by nature anxious or maybe depressed, or maybe you just want a gentle stretch.   Come along, join our beautiful small groups and see if this is for you.  The room is comfortable, no bare boards…. Just a warm cocoon to help you relax.

EXPLORING HEMP (not marijuana)

Hemp is often confused in peoples’ minds with its hallucinogenic cousin – marijuana. Hemp doesn’t contain the same chemicals, so it can never make you high, although it does support what is called our endocannabinoid receptors in the body (ECS) and a deficiency has been identified in people who have migraines, fibromyalgia, IBS, neurological conditions and a variety of treatment related conditions.  It has been discovered that there is an intimate relationship between omega 3’s and phytocannabinoids which act like a multivitamin for the ECS.  Basically, Hemp Oil (rather than hemp seed oil) can be purchased at your local health food store.  I have identified two brands which are useful – 13 SEEDS (produced in Tasmania) and HEMP FOODS Australia (organic but I don’t know where these are produced – I suspect a mix).  It is not a cheap oil considering how easy it would be to make your own if you had the plant. Most cost between $15 and $20 for 500 ml.  They are however worth it from a health point of view.

I have been taking it for some time.  Every day as a dip with wholemeal bread and garlic, as milk now and again in the day, and in seed form on muesli.  I have noticed an increase in my concentration levels (very good at my age), a drop in stress levels, great sleeps, and a couple of the consistent aches I have had for a very long time have gone.  Just those things have made me a convert.

I am writing a book on my findings, and will alert you when it is ready.  Locally, in the meanwhile, go to Natures Garden in Woodend. They are very knowledgable, and stock the two brands mentioned above – but there are lots out there.  You are looking for oils and seeds with a very high Omega 6 reading, high protein, and a high balanced Omega 3 and 9.

RECIPE:  I love hemp seed milk.  One third of a cup of hulled hemp seed, 2 cups of cold water, dates or coconut sugar if you like it a little sweeter – how much is up to you.  Blend and strain.  There is hardly anything left after blending for about a minute.   If you want hemp cream (delicious) cut down on the water to get the desired consistency.
