Dear Yogis,

As I said to my last nite’s class , yesterday (Tuesday the 4th August correct- astrologically if not by date) it is believed that The Buddha was conceived.

The most beautiful telling of the tale can be found in “THE LIGHT OF ASIA” by sir Edwin Arnold.  It is in verse, but don’t be put off.  It casts light on the whole of Buddha’s life and is very beautiful.  Once you have got with the mood and the music of the words you won’t be able to put it down.

That night the wife of King Suddhodana,
Maya the Queen, asleep beside her lord,
Dreamed a strange dream; dreamed that a star from
Heaven –
Splendid, six rayed, in colour rosy pearl,
Whereof the token was an Elephant
Six tusked and white as milk of Kamadhuk
Shot through the void, and shining into her,
Entered her womb upon the right.
Awaked, bliss beyond a normal mother filled her breast,
And over half the earth a lovely light forewent the morn.
The strong hills shook; the waves
Sank lulled; all the flowers that blow by day came forth
As’t were high noon; down to the farthest hells
Passed the Queens joy, as when warm sunshine thrills
Wood glooms to gold, and into all the deeps
A tender whisper pierced. “Oh ye” it said,
Uprise and hear, and hope! The Buddha is come!”

It is suprising how closely this resembles in image the conception and later the birth of Jesus.  The details are different but the idea of the “immaculate” conception is common to both. In the Jesus story Mary was told by an Angel she was “special”, “chosen” among women for this task.  She was asked by an angel if  she would agree to the transaction and made pregnant by “God”. In the Mary story the community where she lived was less than pleased, and Mary banished herself to her cousin Elizabeth’s house until everything cooled down.  Only John the Baptist (who was still a feotus in Elizabeth’s womb) “jumped for joy”…. But essentially, it is the same story.

I am moved by both stories, and in this time of isolation and strangeness, it is still an idea I like to think about.  Believe or don’t believe it, it really doesn’t matter… just open your mind to a few new possibilities.

Also this week Adhe Tapontsang passed away aged 92 in Dharamsala.  Beloved by Tibetans, she was one of the most well known Tibetan activists and was imprisoned by the Chinese for many years (27?).  I don’t put in the number because it is hard to believe, but true.  Many reading this will be 27 years old or younger.  Imagine being incarcerated for  your entire life.  (Nelson Mandala was also imprisoned for 27 years…)

All in all a very “interesting” time we live in.

HAVE A (SUNNY) LOVELY DAY – Live long and prosper.

NAMASTE.  JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

I was tempted just to say ..YOU ARE ALL PERFECT, and leave it at that.

You forget that, and run around trying to be all things to all people, forgetting that you are perfect as you are.  There is nothing missing.  You may not believe you are perfect, you may think you need this or that, but the truth is  WHEN YOU BELIEVE IT YOU WILL SEE IT.  You don’t have to be something else to be loved.

When you reside in your own skin you can feel it.  You are holding it.  You are stronger and braver than you think. If you want to see change, you have to be that change, keeping in mind that you need to change for yourself.  There are some situations in which you believe you will never be able to be whole.  Change. You don’t need anything.  If you make a change part of you,  Part of you may be sad, but the other part will say to you – you are OK, you will survive.  It is always a process of rediscovery.  Covid is making this level of introspection possible.  Use the time wisely.

If you get unfortunate or unpleasant things in your life, from my point of view it is because you have attracted these things into your life through your negative thoughts. If anything is the LAW OF ATTRACTION, this is it! You get what you give.  If you live negatively, that is what will return boomerang like to you. If the cup is always overflowing for you no matter the circumstances, you have brought that fullness to you.  It is not magic – it is how it works.

For myself I wish I was braver, but I am what I am.  Someone asked me yesterday… “What is the source of your strength – How come you are so strong”.  I hadn’t though of that and was surprised at their perception. I am not strong – I just expect the best….

My age helps.  I like being older.   Your age is not chronological, more spiritual, more attitudinal.  Your attitude determines your life.  First know who you are.  Find your own narrative, and to do this you have to know your parents.  Go looking – you have time.  Force yourself to figure out who they were.  I was stunned when I investigated my mother (and recently my father and grandfather) and found out who she really was, then I could understand myself better.  Like your parents, my parents couldn’t give me what they didn’t have.  It wasn’t about me! Lesson to self – It is never too late to start again.

I have a daughter and a son, and they are like me – difficult. I am so proud of what they have achieved in their lives because they never “settled”.  They strove to be the best they could be.  I have always been “difficult person”, and influenced them at a distance because of the person they thought (think) I am.  I hope that they have forgiven me. I like who I am, and I have always been on a mission in my small way to change the world one yogi at a time. I learned early on that this (mostly unconscious) drive came from my mum – she used it in the direction of the material, and I am happiest striving for the spiritual (keeping in mind I still need to pay the rent).  I didn’t and don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

Trying to be perfect is a toxic journey. We have to love our shadow.  Perfection is not required.

Have a picture in your mind, and on your vision board of what you want – and spend a few seconds many times a day re-inforcing those visions… Vision Boards are a great project for you and your children during covid.  They are not a waste of time.  Try it and see.

Have a great (cutting and pasting) “Vision Boarding” day.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

Yesterday, after a very problematic start, I was told that Telstra was hacked.. whatever happened we only got the internet back 15 minutes before our zoom teacher training, and some other folk didn’t get theirs back until after class finished! Sorry guys.  However, everyone had such a great time that we have determined to have teacher training every Sunday fortnight at 10am in the morning.  The first to be on Sunday the 16th August.  Be there or be square as they used to say!

LETS TALK ABOUT BIRTH. We talked about yamas and karma yesterday, let’s tackle BIRTH.  Let’s say you were one of two children born from the same set of parents. Let’s say one child is a great artist and the other can’t even write a clear signature.  One is confident, and the other fearful. They have different personality traits, but they have the same eye colour and skin colouring as the parents.  This scenario is repeated over and over millions of times a year across the planet, and no-one thinks it is unusual

Science tells us that when we are born we automatically inherit certain skills from our parents.  OK, I know that is true, but what about the other stuff?  What about the child that is radically  different from his siblings and parents and perhaps becomes a musician (like Mozart).  Where do the positive and negative traits come from that were not exhibited in the parents.  Birth after birth, child after child, we can tell that there is something else happening here.

I believe there is a system.  When we are born we have the following things “gifted” to our DNA.

THE HEREDITY OF OUR PARENTS BIOLOGY.  This is the 3D part of the DNA double helix. Hair, skin, and eye colour talents etc.  The parts that carry over from our parents and grandparents.

OUR KARMIC IMPRINT. The unfinished Karmic load we carry from our various lifetimes.  This can be positive or negative. Depression, guilt, fear all can stem from a continuing process started in past lifetimes. The individual works on these for several lifetimes to find peace and self worth within.  This is karmic.  It is information.  It is not chemistry.

ASTROLOGICAL IMPRINT A snapshot of the solar system at the time of birth.  We could have a big discussion about magnetic imprints and inductance, but suffice it to say that this patterns the sun’s quantum imprint into the magnetic grid of the planet which overlays your magnetic DNA, then patterns a portion of your DNA at birth.

THE AKASHIC RECORD . This carries a record of you from when you came to life until your death. It is (as far as I believe) within the DNA and able to be accessed in meditation through the cerebrospinal fluid, which is why we activate this fluid in every one of our restorative yoga classes.

THE SACREDNESS OF GOD.  The so-called “God-Gene”.    Apart from the first item above which is linear and can be observed scientifically, everything else is a multidimensional energy  which science is only now coming around to acknowledge (the 97% of the DNA not yet accessed by science which has referred to it as “junk”).   When we start to think about non-linear, we do not do well.  The linear mind is firmly based in 3D.  Lots of yoga theorists talk about activating our DNA.   When you do this, when by sound or breathing you activate your DNA what is being activated? Answer – whatever the DNA wants to activate.

The real SYSTEM is the energy of you, your culture, your alphabet, your learning and choices made by the people in your culture.  DNA is at the crossroad of God and man.  A mixture of quantum and non-quantum, and it vibrates with the essence of truth in the Universe.  DNA contains the creator energy, your energy – the human transformation energy of all your lifetimes.

HAVE A LOVELY DAY THINKING ABOUT THIS.

NAMASTE.  JAHNE
