Blog Student News Trainees/Teacher News

Dear Yogis,

What amazing weather.  Snow, high winds (ripped the lid on my council bin off) and generally Woodend Winter Weather.  I contacted the council and they said I will have to wait two weeks for a replacement!  The firm that picks up the rubbish (which they couldn’t do this morning) deliver the bins… so I will just have to figure something out in the meanwhile – ask the neighbours?

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE HEART. by Leonard Cohen.    https://youtu.be/2AMMb9CiScI     I sent this to a few students, and the feed- back I got was interesting.  One student was worried in case I had been hacked and advised me to change my password! No I wasn’t hacked,   I was asked to choose a piece of modern music which spoke about me, which said something to me,  about me.  It was an unusual request, and this is the piece that I chose.  If you watch it, watch it right to the very end, if you don’t you will miss the message.  Cohen had a wild ride, but died well.  I have had a wild ride (not as public as his), and I hope I die well.  Like him, I am working on it.

ZOOM SCHEDULE

YOGA ZOOM: Monday 1pm Gentle Hatha, Wednesday 5.30 Restorative, Friday – either style depending on the class.
STUDY ZOOM: Monday 6.30 Teacher Training, Tuesday 7.30 CCP, Friday 6.45 Tarot, Sunday 10am CCP and 5pm Death Cafe Meet-up

Although almost all of us are sick of ZOOMING, the classes are getting more and more interesting – although I can’t wait until folk come back to class.  The Tarot class has been running since before Covid.  First we made Tarot cards, then we learned how to read them, now we are doing interpretations.  Maybe soon we will get back to making again… There are a few students who I am sure will enjoy the formal opportunity to get back to art.

DEATH CAFE:  I started a DEATH CAFE MEET-UP on Sundays at 5pm.  I didn’t think anyone would turn up – but they have.  If you want to come let me know and I will send you the link, or go to the MEET-UP site, and the web is available there.  Either way there is no charge.  It is not a formal class, just bring questions.

One of our CCP students (Kate) is running her own “Death Cafe” on zoom.  Here is the link to check out the Compassionate Cafe for Thursday night at 7pm.     It is a facilitated yarn focussed on health and wellbeing for people during lockdown. It’s on zoom. Please register through Humanitix to receive the booking link.   The link will be automatically sent out one hour before we start, if you register through Humanitix. It is free to attend.   People from all walks of life will be there , not necessarily yogis or CCP.

INSTAGRAM..   Although I am not a raving fan, I have been putting up a painting almost every day.  I paint every day, but often have not been finishing in a day, but I put up enough miniatures to make it interesting I think.  I used to concentrate on themes, but now I am just doing what occurs to me in the moment.  I thought I might do “eyes” particularly lions, tigers and wolves eyes.  PLEASE FOLLOW ME.  Every little bit of encouragement helps.

If you are doing something special, please let me know, especially if we can invite other students.

See you on the ZOOM MAT.

NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yoga Zoomers –

As promised, a new newsletter in this a new week of lock-down (maybe the first of two weeks) expected to end at midnite on Thursday the 2nd September.  So, two weeks of zooming.  It could end before then depending on numbers of new infections in Shepparton – or it could end later.  Who knows.

ZOOM YOGA CLASSES:  Monday 1pm Hatha Yoga, Wednesday 5.30 Restorative, Friday 5.30 Hatha or Restorative depending on who comes to class – it seems to be lurching towards restorative.

ZOOM STUDY:  Monday 6.30 Free Yoga teacher Training.  Come to this with an open mind – it is a stunning class, but anything could happen.  Tuesday CCP Repeat or Module 4 Depending on who comes to class.  Fridays Free Tarot Class, 6.45. SUNDAYS 10AM CCP, and a new class CCP DEATH CAFE 5pm.

DEATH CAFE:

I invited you to my DEATH CAFE.  A place where we could talk about death, fear of death etc.  I put out a call on MEET-UP and I had my first group yesterday (Sunday at 5pm).  Kate in Benalla, one of our Trainee teachers, and CCP, is starting her own also, but a much more dedicated and professional group with break out groups etc…  I will let you know when she has an ID I can send to you.  If you want to come to mine you can do it through CCP DEATH CAFE MEET-UP or I can send you an ID.

TEA BAG PAINTINGS.

I make every effort to do a painting a day.  I haven’t had a minute to myself today, but it is only 6.30 and I might be able to do a painting in the time left…  I have included a photo here of the bags waiting for attention.  I have since washed and ironed them – yes, washing and ironing is part of the prep.

HOUSE KEEPING.

It’s not just people that are feeling the pressure, the energy of my house is taking a beating too.  About 10-12 years ago I put new appliances into the home believing hat they would last forever, but of course they never do, and they are all wearing out together! First the wall furnace which has now been replaced and is working beautifully,  then the fridge had a hiccup.  Its a side-by-side, but ancient, and I was thinking of replacing it, but when I learned that the newer ones use 30% more electricity, and we run them 24/7, I decided to keep it until it literally refuses to respond to any more fixes.

Then the other morning the cat came to see me and she had wet feet, and looking for the source,  I was met with water as I entered the laundry. I discovered my washing machine hoses had deteriorated beyond the point of no return.  Thank goodness for my lovely plumber – Guy of New Gisborne Plumbing.  I turned off the water and thought that he would come “soon”, but he came the same day, armed with stainless steel hoses.  The picture on the left might not look attractive to you but it looks like heaven to me.  New stainless steel hoses – not the plastic/rubber held in place with chewing gum stuff I had been managing with.  Heavenly.  No water on the floor.

WHAT IS NEXT?
Next is what it has been throughout zoom, but I am learning new zoom skills.  I always am a little worried when I log on, but I am getting more confident as I learn more.  I haven’t forgotten basic skills about life I learned early on – especially to do with money – For instance, when you have $90, you save $30 Spend $30 on essentials or paying bills, and you spend the last $30 on increasing your skills or potential (which might mean giving it away).  That is the equation I have lived by for a long time.

One of the skills have,  I learned from Dolores Cannon in person.  I learned QHHT – past life regression her way, which includes tapping into the subconscious.  Very interesting stuff, and I am increasingly doing it via zoom.  I love it best with a person in the room, but it is not impossible with zoom.  I can do a short version where we can explore the past which can be enlightening, but a full session, even on zoom takes time. About 2 hours.

SEE YOU ON SCREEN

Dear Yogis,

Not much to report I think.  It has been a quiet (and quick) week.  Don’t know where the time has gone, but I am getting all done that I need to, the new furnace is working beautifully, I am eating well, I can be warm,  and feel great…so all good thus far.

ZOOM: Friday Tarot 6.45,  Sunday 10am CCP (The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying), Monday 6.30 Teacher Training..ALL WELCOME
STUDIO: Friday 5.30 (Vacancies in this class), Monday 1pm (full until the end of covid), Wednesday 5.30 Hatha.

Once the current covid restrictions are relaxed and we can have more in class, then I will let you know.  There is a vacancy in Friday nights class, and I am considering re-instating Wednesday Restorative at 1pm.  If you would like to join either of these classes please let me know. email me at yogafirst2@bigpond.com

I am INSTAGRAM’ING.  True!  Like zoom I said I would not do it, but here I am , loading one of my little miniatures every evening..I try to do one a day, you have to if you want to learn more about the medium, and I do.  Painting on TeaBags might seem simple, but it isn’t.  First you have to get all of the leaves out of the tea bag which is a chore.  It would be easier to paint on the tea bags BEFORE I have used them, but then I would miss out on all the lovely stains… it would be boring, plus I just love to be able to say when people ask me what I am doing  ” I am busy ironing tea bags”.

THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF EVERYTHING.  I have expanded this to consider various aspects of Estate Planning.  Things you need to be aware of and alert your lawyer to.  If you understand the alternatives you have, then you can be prepared for whatever happens.  Of course the Little Black Book is essential for everyone.

When you tick all the boxes, fill-in all the blanks you will have a very comprehensive list of everything you would need to start life again after a crisis – yours or your partners.  I was motivated to write it because of the distress of students and clients who had suffered personal loss, and then had to deal with the  bureaucratic nightmare of banks and other institutions, and negotiate IT mazes.  If they had completed this book, they could have sailed through.

You can buy it very inexpensively to download on www.myyogabooks.etsy.com however, if you don’t want to go this route, I can do a bound copy for you but it will be more expensive, $57.25 which includes postage.

CAT STEVENS (Yusef) has just launched a childrens book featuring joyful illustrations and the timeless lyrics of the much-loved peace anthem released in 1971.  This hopeful picture book continues Stevens’s commitment to children’s education and shared love for people of all cultures and identities. Stevens invites readers to hop on the Peace Train and join its growing group of passengers who are all ready to travel together to a better world of peace and human understanding.

I wrote these lyrics more than fifty years ago, and I know the words still boom as true and loud today as they did in the 1970s,” says Stevens. “It’s incredible to see how Peter Reynolds has made the words jump into life in brilliant style for a new generation with his joysome illustrations.”

There is another childrens book by Stevens called “Teaser and the Firecat”.  I did have a copy but gave it away years ago.  I should have put in in the “book safe” as it is rare and valuable now.

Go to google to hear the song.

See you on the mat with The Cat.
