Blog Student News Trainees/Teacher News

Dear Yogis,

A very short newsletter today (maybe you can read the last one again – it was long).

SCHEDULE: NO ZOOM UNTIL THE NEW YEAR.
STUDIO: Yoga Monday 1pm, Wednesday 5.30 and Friday at 5.30

ART WORK:

I am busy with the Fungi Print I am drawing..A collection of unusual fungi of Central Victoria. I think it will be ready before Christmas, but as it is not a download, postage will be an issue for some.

This has not been an easy project, although an enthralling one.

I have long been a fan of Paul Stament the “father” of fungi in the USA (especially his mother’s cancer journey and the role of Turkey Tail mushroom).  He started like me, drawn in by the medicinal and practical nature of fungi not addressed in today’s world.  Out of this enthusiasm and dedication,  he has created umpteen patents around his fungal discoveries (everything from cancer “cures”, to fungal remediation dealing with oil spills and rubbish d) which you will see if you watch FANTASTIC FUNGI on Netflix.  I think he was the first person to make fabric out of mushrooms – he made his hat. This breakthrough has been taken up by major designers including Stella McCartney.

Your next step in your fungal journey (apart from ordering my great poster)  would be reading Alison Pouliot’s wonderful guide to the fungi of Central Victoria, and FUNGI IN AUSTRALIA by J. Hubregtse, published by the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria Inc. They have both inspired this work, and future work now on the drawing board.

COVID NOTE:  I guess not many of you watch CCTV and certainly not DayStar which is one of the radical fringe.  Marcus Lamb       -the now LATE Marcus Lamb who was the founder and president of DayStar a Christian Broadcasting company, has used the last couple of years focussing on the value of hyroxychloroquine, dexamethasone etc.  He donated valuable hours of television time telling his large flock to not get vaccinated, that covid was a hoax, that it was a conspiracy.  In spite of his alternative medication, he contracted covid recently and died last week.  Four other leading lights of the CCTV anti-vax brigade have also died in the last week or so.  Hardly surprising when you see that in their churches few wear masks or social distance.

I PROBABLY WON’T SEE YOU ON THE MAT…BUT I WILL BE THINKING OF YOU.  Namaste – Jahne.

Dear Yoga “babies”,

WHAT IS HAPPENING.
You think the weather is lovely, the covid virus has gone off (to re-think), and everything in the garden is rosy.  THINK AGAIN.  I have been talking and writing about food shortages, weather, discomfort, but none of you are listening – well, hardly anyone.  Sit up and pay attention!! This email came from a yogi in Canada.  I have a son in Canada, so I listen…..

“I live in BC, Canada. November brought unprecedented rains, flooding, mudslides, and highway closures to our province.  Several towns remain evacuated two weeks later.  We are under the THIRD state of emergency this year.  I thought I was well prepared with food from the garden and herbs preserved for winter, but nothing prepared me for walking into the grocery store in my rural community and seeing empty shelves.

Just 48 hours after heavy rains washed away bridges, roads, and railways,  there was nothing left in the stores — no milk, eggs, cheese, no fresh or frozen produce.  Bread and meat were also low.  Trucks are getting through again on some roads and the store shelves are restocking more or less, but I won’t forget the “gut-punch” feeling I had when I saw the shelves empty.  The vulnerability of our entire supply system was laid bare.

My middle son is in the middle of the area that was impacted by the flooding.  There is only one detour road in and out of his town, and its only for emergency use. He called to tell me he was fine, but he asked for a dehydrator for Christmas.  He said it’s time to teach his daughters how to preserve food.

If you are ever in this same situation, the farm stores might still have food even though the grocery stores run out.  That was the case for us, and that was also what my son found, at ground zero.  The farm stores aren’t dependent on the supply chain”

I understand that Australia is on the opposite of the world to Canada, but it is still part of the world.  What happens to them eventually happens to us… maybe not to the same extent, (we are getting heatwaves rather than freezes), but we will still be impacted in ways we are not prepared for.  PLEASE PREPARE.

I have a dehydrator (bought 20 years ago), I dehydrate mushrooms herbs, fruits…its easy.  I don’t have my bees so sweetness would be hard to find, but, other than that I could manage.  I am also purchasing a small generator, and a power bank for my electronics.  Even if we have only one repeat of a four day electricity outage, or another hard lockdown, or a weather event, I want to be prepared.  Are you?

Where are you spending your money?  On a new electronic game – or a small generator.  On a new dress, or a dehydrator…  Do you have a stock of pasta, powdered milk, tinned and dried groceries… a herb cupboard.  Do you know where to forage?  I even make my own smoking herbs and pipes (although the one in the picture is a genuine corn cob pipe)..  When the power went out earlier in the year, and I was candle powered it was lovely to have a relaxing pipe – although I don’t do it as a matter of course.  I made being alone in the storm a special time… The cat and I relaxed.  I remember being unable to draw because the table was trembling with the force of the wind shaking the house. As the Buddha said ‘Do what you can with what you have where you are”.  Make sure you have the ingredients to “do” something with.  Thanks to lockdowns you have had the time.

It is not about being depressed, worried, it is about being prepared for whatever is thrown at you.  Communities have been dealing with such things for ever, but now thanks to the web, we know they are coming and we can get ready – our parents and grandparents could not.  The world is changing.

TRUST
We are so lucky to be alive, here, now, on this beautiful planet with all its dangers and fears.  Here we are, surrounded by awesome visions, greatness, beauty… it is a wonderful time to be on the earth. As it says in the Bible, “….be not afraid – If God is with you, who can be against you?”

AS RILKE SAID “The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things”

I will see you on the mat.
NAMASTE – JAHNE

Dear Yogis,

(I think I got ahead of myself.  Hope this goes out on Wednesday?  Didn’t mean to publish on Tuesday – it wasn’t finished).

Well summer has sort of come I think, at least this week.  It will be raining again by the weekend – I should have all the mulching done by then, and the flowers I can gather,  all brought in for pressing, drying or Bach Remedies.  There maybe not so many yoga classes, but there is heaps to do.

SCHEDULE. (Studio closing on the 20th for the Christmas Holidays)
STUDIO YOGA: MONDAY 1PM,  and FRIDAY 5.30 – we are slowing down down in December – full steam ahead in January.
ALL ZOOM is closing for December apart from CCP information sessions which I will advertise prior to the day – we will be back in January.  It is hard to remember “life before zoom” – I do remember saying that I was never going to do zoom!

PRIVATE CONSULTS:  I am still available for consultation on zoom and in the Studio until the 2oth December. Tarot, Yoga, or BACH/Natural Therapies.

LOOKING AFTER THE MUSCLES…. AND GETTING A GOOD NITE’S SLEEP

I have been speaking to you all about MAGNESIUM ever since I can remember.  You all love a MAGNESIUM LOTION, and here for you is my very own,  I use it all the time.   It is such a wonderful product, not just for muscle aches and pains.  My clients tell me (and I agree), if you wipe it on your tummy at bedtime, it enhances sleep.

I have put together in a clear plastic zipper bag –    **MAGNESIUM MUSCLE EASE PACK $42.50 including postage (1 x muscle ease lotion and 1 x pack of muscle ease bath/shower salts with lavender).  By sending you a pack rather than one product I can ease the pain of the Postage too.

I also make a (Natural) Magnesium Spray Deodorant $16.50 including postage.  Individual postage at $10 per item  makes it prohibitive to send alone I think – but you can be the judge of that..   If you want one, I suggest that you add it to your pack. All three products come to $49.50 including postage.    It doesn’t increase the postage, therefore your $10 postage over three products isn’t too bad.  Keep looking at the Shop on our HOME PAGE at www.yogabeautiful.com.au – I will have it in the shop by Thursday – I will remind you in the Friday Newsletter.

BIBLICAL NEWS
I call it “news” because when we do speak about the Bible in our Teacher Training sessions, my students are always surprised at its relevance.  It usually is not a part of the Bible that has been read, or they have been read an old interpretation.

How about Leviticus 13.  Yes, it is a book of rules and it is in the Old Testament – before the time of Jesus, so at least 3,400 to 3,500 years ago, but I would like to focus on the rules around Leprosy.  It is surprising how much their rules around this disease are like the rules around Covid, although Leprosy is caused by a bacteria not a virus.  It was all the same to them because they did not recognise either – it was at the time believed to be an incurable disease.  Interesting that the first signs are the inability to FEEL.

The Priests at that time were the doctors, the spiritual leaders, the law-makers. If you found a suspicious sore (and I bet they covered them up until they couldn’t hide them anymore), you went to the Priest and you were isolated for 7 days, then you had to report in, and depending on if it had healed you were again isolated… at the point where it was confirmed you had the disease, you had to move into a community of sufferers (away from the rest of the community), cover the bottom part of your face when moving around, no haircuts available, your clothes were ragged because accessing community baths etc was not possible out side your community, and you had to let the outside community know you were a sufferer by all these signs, plus you had to call out “unclean, unclean” twice.  Unlike today and covid, if you didn’t obey the rules the penalty was DEATH.

COVID AND BOTOX…..

I didn’t see any massive protests when BOTOX was first brought in.  I wonder how many anti-vac persons are happy to have botulism injected into their bodies?

Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It’s the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called BOTULISM. People pay about $200 per injection I believe.   Doctors use it in small doses to treat health problems, including:

  • Temporary smoothing and improving your appearance – Severe underarm sweating – Uncontrollable blinking –  Misaligned eyes – Chronic migraine – Overactive bladder

Botox injections work by weakening or paralyzing certain muscles or by blocking certain nerves. The effects last about three to twelve months, depending on what you are treating. The most common side effects are pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. You could also have flu-like symptoms, headache, and upset stomach. Injections in the face may also cause temporary drooping eyelids. (and I have witnessed the onset of Parkinson’s like symptoms which do not diminish over time)  You should not use Botox if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Every injection no matter what it is,  has side effects.. Because Botox is mostly a cosmetic procedure people are willing to overlook or ignore the side effects – Maybe they could introduce something like that into a Covid injection, so you could have your Botox, and a Covid at the same time AND FREE.  Maybe Billy Connolly could do a comic skit on the topic, and then everything would be OK.  There would be waiting times for free “Bovid” injections!

See you on the mat (even if not in the Studio).

NAMASTE.  JAHNE
